Just when everything is going normally, we all come across that “one year” that throws everything at us. “2009” is a poetic short story that explores the human reaction to opportunities, commitment, love, empathy and inner strength.
I started writing poetry on social networking websites and eventually published my debut poetry "Illuminated" on Amazon. Though I predominantly write on love, few of my poems also explores sensitive social issues.
My debut book "Illuminated" is an anthology of poems on love, pain and hope . It takes you on a profound journey that mirrors deepest emotions we go through in different stages of love. (Best Seller Jun'18)
My next book "2009" is a poetic short story inspired from true events. Its dark, raw and relatable. It explores the human reaction to opportunities, commitment, love, empathy and inner strength
Plot: We all have the one year that changes everything, for Jo that year was 2009. Her life completely changed, her grandmother had passed, her grandfather starting to have memory loss, her career is starting to pick up, and 10 year-long relationship with her boyfriend starts to struggle. The poetic short story takes you through the life of Jo during the year that changed her life.
My Review: This was my first time reading a poetic short story, so I was excited to see how I would like it. I did enjoy the small glimpse into Jo's life and all the thing she had to deal with. The book takes talks well about the hardships we all face in life and is execute well in the story. I was smiling at the happy moments and was sad and the hard moments, which shows how the story of such emotion of someone's life and what they can go through in just a small time. Overall the book was well written and showed a beautiful life of someone's hardships and strength.
Such an amazing story which sheds light on many aspects of life. I loved the Protagonist and respected many decisions she took. I also Loved the poems attached to the chapters. this book is worth reading
2009 is the year that changed the life of Joanna, a young Australian girl, forever. Starting end-2008, she suffered a series of losses/reversals in pivotal relationships in close succession, throwing her life into a painful, dizzying spin. Her struggles to cope with her circumstances were devastating.
This book explores the value of human relationships from the POV of a teenage girl who is slowly maturing into adult life. She shares what she discovered about truly lasting and satisfying relationships from real-life experiences in a world in which relationships worth pursuing hardly last if any.
The author has written short pieces of poetry at places to give expression to Joanna's pain. The poetry makes the reading more enjoyable and blends well with the rest of the book.
Overall it’s a nice short story. It's gentle. I recommend it primarily to teenage girls/young women passing through emotionally painful phases in life caused by relationship breakdowns/losses.
Very short story but full of angst, hope, despair and acceptance. The author writes of a single year in the main character's life. A young woman is encouraged by her grandparents to take a journalist fellowship with the potential of work outside of Australia, her home country. Her grandmother dies, grandfather crumbling mentally , and a ten year relationship with Ethan are left behind as she goes to Thailand and India following the trail and victims of human trafficking. The author has prose poems of sensitive moments and simple illustrations that also speak in unsaid words. Very different twist on a short story since it includes the palette of poetry and pictures as elements vital to readers. The reader becomes an interpreter as they progress the pages. This was a free book to read and review. I have no connection to anything involved. Very interesting selection.
Beautiful well written story about hardship and strength. It had me smiling and crying. Everyday we all face obstacles in life and it doesn't matter how many times we all fall. What really matters how we all get back up. Beautiful book❤️❤️
An amazing book♥️ It's a short story and even though I can't concentrate for that long, I wish it was longer. It really feels like reading a diary and the authors knowledge of feelings and empathy must be through the roof! I also really liked the short poems in between.
Not my cup of tea as they say. Not a terrible read, but some poetry and I don’t like poetry at all. I just think with the few pages allotted and the subject could have been expanded more. On plus side I saw no grammatical or spelling errors. I won this ebook from GoodReads giveaway.
