Ryder Malloy. Selfish. Arrogant. Self-absorbed. Prick. An epitome of manliness. Six-foot-three, all hard, chiseled muscle. My brother's ex best friend, and my new client. Four years ago, he took my innocence and left - without a word. Today, he's the star quarterback who needs an image makeover. And I'm his publicist, who doesn't quite believe him. Task at Swallow my hate for him and concentrate on the job at hand - making Ryder look like a real-life knight in shining armor. I'm falling for him all over again. Well, sleeping with a client is a no-no. Making out with him on my desk - a bigger no-no! Making a baby with him? What was I thinking?!
When are authors going to stop writing celibate heroines? Why the hell couldn’t she move on too? They weren’t together so it doesn’t make sense that she’s stay faithful to a man who wouldn’t even think of doing the same for her.
So over this shit!

And here she comes AGAIN: the weak doormat can’t-use-her-brain-when-in-the-presence-of-asshole-manwhore-hero-who-used-you-and-left-you-‘cause-he-is-hot. Thank you, no next please
I liked the characters in this book and the storyline. The characters were a little to back and forth with their emotions for me, but over all I liked their personalities and the plot. This story is not lack for steamy scenes, but sometimes the characters seemed to fall back on them a little to much instead of dealing with their feelings. Definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋💋 Love this Ladies books , her characters are so real and alluring . Addictive reading for the day, full of steamy romance and tense situations. Can’t beat them
DNF at like 20% - this writing is horrible... I feel like a high school student could do better... lotta telling and not showing... really poorly executed although the idea was a good one. Don’t waste your time.
Engaging Sports-Based Romance First of all kudos for the author Katy Kaylee for changing the title of the book from Makeover to Misunderstood. The change better captures the emotional problems Ryder, NFL Quarterback has that has resulted in bring him in contact with the PR Publicist, Katie, who happens to be the sister of his childhood friend Danny and who he took her virginity. Four years before Danny accused Ryder of sleeping with his fiancé right before their wedding. No one wanted to hear his side so he cut off any contact with the Danny and family. Now Katie has agreed to work with Ryder...and they fall in love. Will they reconcile differences? Will Danny and Ryder resolve issues? Will Ryder improve image and win the Superbowl? So many questions that only reading will answer. The book is very well written and immediately engaged me and held my interest throughout the book. The characters were very dynamic. Initially Ryder was hard to warm up to and Katie too. I felt she was too easy the second time. Where was the professionalism? Definitely recommending this book for your reading enjoyment and pleasure. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I absolutely loved Ryder and Katie’s story. I was captivated from the very beginning. Twist and turns that kept me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. I couldn’t stop reading it until I was finished with the last word. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for an awesome read
If you love books with zero originality, full of cliches, and mopey men who won't stop feeling sorry for themselves oh, you're going to love this book!
This is my first time reading anything by this author and I'm pretty sure she wrote it with a checklist of every romance cliche right next to her. She starts off strong with a guy who is the bad boy who keeps the world at arm's length because either his parents didn't love him enough or he had one bad relationship with a woman that didn't work out. In this case it's his parents didn't love him enough and he never lets you forget it. So yeah he's the cliche bad boy who has sex with every woman he meets and gets into drunken brawls because he's just such a bad boy. But alas, here comes the cliche, he has a heart of gold. We know that because he throws a ball with some kids and is nice to some old people. Pretty low bar but hey, he's good-looking so what can you do? The next cliche the author hits on is that the guy isn't good with words so he has to show the woman how he feels... With his penis. Prepare yourself for a tremendous amount of copy and paste sex. It's not that the sex is bad it's just that it's the same sex every single time and it's a bit much since it's every three or four pages. The sex is described as what you would see in professional porn, unfortunately the dialogue is what you would expect in amateur porn. The hero of this book is Ryder and his former best friend is his love interests brother, Danny. These two had a falling out. We're led to believe it's because Danny thinks Ryder slept with his fiance but I think it's because they couldn't decide which of them was more pathetic. After roughly 200 pages of Rider feeling sorry for himself, Danny comes riding in to save the day with his jealousy and woe is me attitude. This author really hits her stride in making completely pathetic men who somehow still get ladies. Because what woman doesn't love a man who is constantly pouting and feeling sorry for himself? But hey, apparently a lot of people like this book so judge for yourself but don't say I didn't warn you.

It's like she cracked a thesaurus for every description. Eyes aren't blue they're "sapphire" hair isn't brown it's "bronze"
But the killer was mentioning that the main character is bigger like 5 times in as many pages. I don't care what size she is, but I don't wanna read how big she is every other paragraph. Her weight should not be her defining characteristic. It's a book give her a personality. Any reoccurring descriptor is annoying. Whether it's eyes, hair, skin, weight. Stop limiting characters by describing a single physical trait a million times.
In this case, where I feel like I can already predict the whole plot, I have 0 incentive to be perpetually irritated by the constant reminder how much the character weighs
The idea for the story was okay, the execution not so much. The characters kept repeating themselves and going on about the same thing over and over. Secondary characters were extremely annoying and childish. The whole thing seemed unreal. Worse of all is the typos and missing simple words from the dialect such as "the" or for example saying "she" instead of "her" and vise versa. This happened throughout the book and with different words. It was very distracting. Finally, the story was about 90% sex and 10% plot. I almost DNF'd this book but I wanted to give it an honest review so I read it until the end.

Katie Lawton is working in sunny Southern California at a premier sports and entertainment PR firm in La. It’s a long way from where she grew up in Missouri.
Ryder Malloy plays in the NFL as the starting quarter back of the San Diego Orcas. His reputation as a womanizer and bad boy reputation in need of a makeover.
Katie is living her dream in sunny California working PR for celebrities and athletes. Her next client has a bad reputation and is considered difficult. No one wants him but Katie has always been up for a challenge. Ryder doesn’t have much hope about his appointment at the PR firm his agent is taking him to. He doesn’t care how the media and fans see him; he just wants to play football. When Katie meets her new client, she is floored because Ryder is the guy that took her virginity four years ago and left her in the dust. He made her promises and then broke her heart all those years ago. Katie sucks it up and does her job, but she doesn’t have to like it. Ryder isn’t sure how he feels when he finds out that Katie oversees his PR. He cared about her once but when she believed lies instead of him, he left and never looked back. The problem is she is even more beautiful than he remembered. Of course, sleeping with her would confirm the womanizing rumors. Does he care? Maybe a little. Will that stop him from trying again. Most definitely not.
I love books with characters that have a past and enemies to lovers. This book had both in spades. When the author can bring them back to their happy ever after, even better. These two had a past marked with a big land mine that followed them while they were apart and combusted when they came back together. Seeing Katie brings it all back for Ryder. The lies and the hate. His background enforces the idea that he isn’t worthy of someone believing in him so instead he doesn’t try. Katie makes him look at himself and calls bullshit when he tries to hide from it. She sees so much in him and pushes until he can see it for himself. Ryder is strong but underneath he just wants approval. He realizes that he had that already. He just needed to look in the right place.
Katie was at the bar with friends when she saw her brother’s best friend drinking alone and looking upset. Ryder was drunk and angry but Katie was insistent he come home with her. She didn’t want his pro football star reputation ruined. Well one thing leads to another and they spend the weekend together. He has to go back to his team and once she finds out what happened between Ryder and his brother, she doesn’t answer her texts.
This is an very sexually explicit book and although it seems that it could interfere with the storyline, it actually is consistent with it. It is how both of the main characters express their feelings, they have two ways, either upset and arguing or making love. This book has amazing characters that are extremely well defined and their underlying faults and motivations are apparent. This is mostly a story about overcoming your past, overcoming your reputation, overcoming your fears, and overcoming your misperceptions. Ryder has so much to manage and is truly misunderstood by the public and those who love him. It is a love story about breaking through the barriers that are holding you back and moving forward. The dialogue is well done but be prepared for a lot of swearing as it is part of the personality of the main character. At first I was not sure about the book but as I got into it, the characters drew me in. It is an emotional rollercoaster as they deal with their lives. The scene at the trading camp with her crying, well It had me in tears. This is a great story, just be aware it has lots of steamy scenes. If you like hot romances the you will love this one.

Wow what a great story and what’s not to love about second chances once they get over all the crap that’s holding them back. Rider Malloy has it all a star quarterback and money and women but that’s who he really is but nobody knows this and if he has his way nobody ever will. Katie Lawson has always had the hots for Rider but he is her brother best friend so it will never happen between them, but one night at a bar with her friends she runs into Rider and he is drinking heavily and she takes him home and you guessed it she gets her wish not only to loose her virginity to him and only him but also to be with the man she loves but can never tell him. And after there long weekend together he asks her to come with him because he has been traded to another team. Then all hell breaks loose and she takes her brothers side and believes he slept with Phoebe, Danny’s wife to be and she doesn’t text back he knows it’s over between them, so he moves on but he is heart broken. Now 4yrs later he needs a Pr company to help him get endorsements and clean up his image and who does he get Katie Lawson his old lover and the person that broke his heart. After now working together she see him in a different light and but she cannot forgive his betrayal but that doesn’t stop them from being together because they are great together and the sex is explosive between them so they don’t mention the past and just move forward. How does this all work out between them do they get there HEA get this book to find out.

This story is about Ryder and Katie. The intro to the story is all the drama you need to get a book started. Ryder is an NFL player who is best friends with Katie’s brother. He also grew up with them as his mother abandoned him as a child and his father was abusive. Katie’s family took him in and treated him as a soon; however, the story starts off with Ryder in a bar mad at Danny (Katie’s brother). Katie has always crushed on Ryder, but as he was somewhat family, she never thought anything of it. She invites him back to her place as he is wasted to get him to eat something. One thing leads to another and she gives him her V card. They spend the weekend together but not once do they talk about why Ryder is mad with Danny. During that week, she is called to the family house as the wedding is about to be called off due to the claims that Ryder slept with Danny’s fiancé. She doesn’t respond to Ryder and believes Danny’s information. Time goes by (4 years) and she is now a PR that is about to meet her new client no other than Ryder. Everything takes off from there which makes this story a page turner.
One thing to take out is that being misunderstood only stays that way until one does what needs to be done to have them understand. Also never judge a book by its cover as it is never what it appears. I loved that this book it gave them a second chance but also opened up the facts that many are quick to judge without knowing the facts.

Sometimes the past returns and can write a wrong. Ryder is a man who did not have a happy homelife growing up so he wound up living with his best friend Danny’s family. Katie, Danny’s younger sister, had a huge crush on Ryder made even stronger when he would defend her honor. One night out with the girls, Katie sees Ryder somewhat drunk over something that transpired with her brother. Wanting to console him, she winds up taking him home and having a weekend romp together. When she finally returns to the “real world,” Katie learns why there is an issue with her brother and of course takes her brother’s side. Fast forward a few years and Katie is now living in California and working for a PR firm. Ryder is a professional football player who needs some positive PR help and his agent sets him up with a new agency. Surprise, surprise when Katie sees Ryder walk into her office and realizes that he is her new client. Can the man who broke her heart be redeemed in her eyes for what could be called the ultimate betrayal? How is Danny going to react when he hears that his sister is working with Ryder? This is a well written storyline that really digs deep to convey the emotions of hurt a person feels when betrayed and not given the means to explain his side. Katie finds Ryder at the bar and as he is drunk she takes him home to her place. They have a hot, sexy encounter. It is only after that night that Katie discovers the awful truth of Danny (her brother) accusing Ryder of sleeping with his fiance. Believing her brother she sides with him. Ryder sends a text to her that his not answered, and taking that as her answer he moves on. He moves to a new state, new job and other women. Four years later, they unexpectly meet again as Katie has been hired as his PR person to restore his reputation and receive positive publicity and reimbursements. The book is well named. There are alot of misunderstandings in this book. The misunderstandings destroyed a lifelong friendship, family loyalties and romantic relationships. The misunderstandings are emotional and psychological as Ryder cannot be with or around anyone that doesn't believe in him; and Katie's not taking a risk in case what she and Ryder share is temporary. The book is written from both Ryder's point of view and Kates. The characterisation of both Ryder and Katie is in depth and compelling to read. The characters were both flawed, complex and making them quite realistic. Both characters were misunderstood which added to the plot of the story. Plotwise there are alot of ups and downs in the relationship, lots of HOT sexy times, love and frustration and finally at long last open communication. The story is evenly paced. There is a HEA which is really worth waiting for!

Ryder is an up and coming football player and best friends with Danny, not to mention sleeping with Danny's little sister Katie. When a misunderstanding leaves him without either he puts up shields and moves on.
Four years later Ryder is a big NFL star with just as big a bad boy reputation. He's arrogant, selfish and brash. Needing to repair his image his agent hooks him up with the best PR firm and as chance would have it Katie is the PR agent assigned to him. She has to push aside her hatred and make him likable enough to score a huge sponsorship. It becomes apparent quickly that neither Ryder or Katie has gotten over their past, the chemistry is still there. Can Katie let go of her feeling of betrayal long enough to even hear Ryder's side of the story?
Misunderstood is a perfect title for this story and accurately describes Ryder's life. Readers realize that Ryder's arrogance is really just his coping and hiding how vulnerable he actually is. From the time he was a child his parents made him feel unwanted and life ha taught him that people always assume the worst. Can he drop his shields and trust Katie?
This book has a HEA you will gladly consume, I wasn't able to put it down.

In this book we have Katie Lawton, she is now a sports & entertainment PR agent, out in LA, CA. She has known Ryder, her whole life. When she was 12, she started her crush on him. Ryder and her brother Danny, have been best friends since they were in kindergarten. SO, Katie & Ryder have always been around each other. Katie is now working as the PR agent for Ryder to help improve his image. However, Ryder has been dubbed the 'bad' boy of the NFL. Will Katie be able to get his image back on track?
Ryder Malloy, 6'3" hard muscle NFL Quarterback, is every woman's fantasy dream boyfriend. He's always been a bit of a player, although once he see's Katie, is a woman and not a young girl any more, all he wants is her. Even though she's his best friends little sister, and technically off limits, all he can think about is her.
Katie's parents welcomed Ryder into their family when he was younger. Ryder's father was quite abusive and they knew he needed love and a family. Katie's parents helped Ryder in school, pushed him to do the best that he could. For that Ryder would always be thankful and indebted to them.
I didn't like Katie's brother Danny. He blamed every failure on Ryder. Not ever taking responsibility of his own.
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.
MISUNDERSTOOD - the title says it all for this book. Katie is the younger sister of Danny and Danny and Ryder are best friends. Ryder comes from a hard background, mother split and dad is abusive, but Danny's parents take him into their home and family. Of course Katie always had a crush on Ryder but things never went anywhere. That is until they were young adults and one amazing weekend happened between these two. But things don't go smoothly for these two at that time and there are several misunderstandings. Several years later and Ryder is an NFL quarterback with a bad boy reputation. In order to get some lucrative endorsement contracts this bad boy needs to clean up him image. The only way to do that is to hire a good PR firm and get some professional help. Katie is now a successful PR person who is working at the PR firm that Ryder hires to assist him. You know these two clash over everything as their are some more issues in the air between them, but there were also some major sparks lighting up the air when they were together. There are several misunderstandings between everyone that cause all sorts of issues in this book. The question is whether they can be resolved or not?

In this book we meet Katie Lawton and Ryder Malloy. Ryder was never supposed to hook-up with his best friends sister. He was never supposed to want more. However that weekend went south real quick. When Ashley first finds Ryder he is getting drunk in a bar and saying what a jerk her brother is. She doesn't know what has happened but she wants to help in any way she can. Plus there is this little thing about her having a crush on him for years now. However that weekend doesn't end the way either of them had planned. Katie learns why Ryder and her brother are fighting and it drives a wedge between them they never saw coming. Years later Ryder and his manager come into the PR firm she works for to change his image. Can these two find that their is still a HEA out there for them or will their past be more than they can overcome?
This is an amazing book. It does have its ups and downs I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin the book for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
ONE FABULOUS DELIGHT!!! Wow! Talk about putting your heart through the wringer. Man, what a ride with this refreshing spin. You get it all with this little guy. A churning eddy of troubling events and surprising mishaps launch all your stormy, swirling emotions bursting into play with every color on the spectrum. One action packed, pulse racing, heart pounding, page turning bombshell that brings this bad boy roaring to life flawlessly. Struggling through all the trials and tribulations as they encounter so many hurdles to get through. You get drawn into this world so deep everything else ceases to exist. All the drama, uncertainty and suspense keep you riveted on a razors edge. When push comes to shove, all bets are off. Katy really brings this baby together beautifully with an incredible storyline and gripping plot. The two main characters chemistry is high octane, combustible. The characters are authentic, sincere and so realistic with such depth and individuality it's easy to relate. The scenes are so descriptive and detailed there no trouble interpreting each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. Remarkable job Katy, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
Hot damn, this author has done it again. We readers get an awesome story, get to experience a string of emotions and of course some amazing chemistry between our characters. In this book, we have Ryder and Katie (Kate). Now once upon a time, Ryder was Katie's brother, Danny's best friend. That friendship was dissolved and Ryder also lost what he considered his family because, well his original family sucked. Ryder and Katie slept together, he took her virginity then took off for pro football. Now Ryder needs a professional image makeover in order to save his career. Katie just so happens to be a PR queen and she is hired to do it. Can Katie put aside personal feelings and get the job done? Can these two work together or will chemistry get in the way? Fate has a crazy way of stepping in, first time lucky, second time, well now their two become three? Does Ryder run again? So many questions but not to worry, this book has all the answers wrapped in a great story that I sure loved to read.

Excellent and moving I loved this romance that tells a simple story that tinged with what seemed like a betrayal 4 years ago and could not develop, and on the other, tells the behavior of a secret man humble but who has been hiding under the image of bad boy and brawler given by the media. The characters are at once endearing, strong, fragile. It is extremely good and pleasant to read, and very moving and sometimes very hot. Katie has not seen Ryder since they spent the weekend together in bed 4 years ago, before she found out that he had slept with Katie's fiancée, Phoebe, a few hours earlier. When they find each other because she cleans the image of celebrities and is a high-level football athlete, but she has not forgiven him. Except that the truth is different and that he had not slept with Phoebe. When she understands it, they give themselves a second chance, but the past, the media, Ryder's secret personality, his emotional wounds linked to his childhood, make it difficult to maintain their very fragile trust. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
I have to say that this title fits aptly for everything that happened in this story. Ryder, Katie and her brother all fall under this category of misunderstood people. Factor in jealousy, selfishness, immaturity and fear and the actions and reactions of all involved makes perfect sense. I do have to say that Ryder was a bit of an a****** but he had reason as to why he was that way and it kept seeming to be reinforced. Katie was really out of it if she thought this would not catch up to her and that a decision needed to be firmly made with clear cut admissions and questions asked and answered. The doubts and repetitive arguments of trust got a little overwhelming but the sexual tension and explosive sex made up for it. A definite power couple once they get their act together. Both could have avoided all the missteps and angst but then again there would not have been a story to tell. Some frustration if you read it but worth the time.

Ryder is Katie's brother's former best friend they had a bad falling out. Katie and Ryder hooked up around the same time but what she thought meant something to him ended up being a one time thing. Now four years later he walks into her office with his manger for her to be his PR person to help him with his imagine problem. Sparks reignite between them and pretty soon they are sleeping together again. They try to keep what's happening between them between themselves however Katie ends up being pregnant. Ryder is ecstatic about it and doesn't want to keep quiet about it. Things get intense for them when Katie's brother makes a surprise visit. Will their relationship survive her brother? Can Ryder show Katie that he is in it for the long haul?
This is an amazing story that will captive you from beginning to end. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story I would recommend this book to any book lover.
