No Easy Road: Discover the Extraordinary Power of Personal Prayer

Rate this book
Praying Christians are society's best revolutionaries. They engage in the most remarkable act a human can perform, and, in so doing, unleash God's sustaining power. In No Easy Road, Dick Eastman offers challenge, guidance, and encouragement to help believers on the sometimes difficult, though always rewarding, journey of prayer.
This best-selling classic, originally published by Baker in 1971, tracks a Pilgrim's Progress-like progression down the road of prayer. Using stories from biblical times to today, it walks readers through the Peak of Unbelief, the Plateau of Intercession, the Mountain of Self-will, and more. Designed for all believers who seek to revitalize their prayer lives, it is also a pertinent resource for pastors, prayer leaders, missionaries, and others who wish to mobilize others to pray.

In this book Eastman discusses how to pray, why to pray, the power of prayer, persistance in prayer, roadblocks to prayer, where to pray and intercession. It was worth reading.

An inspiring read that is crafted after the journey motif of Pilgrim's Progress. Eastman speaks systematically about the various components of prayer: unbelief, sin, excuses, habit, intercession, holiness, self-will, balance, persistence, burden and power.

The book is very accessible with many anecdotal references. There is a light treatment of Scripture so as to offer basic support but the reader should not expect a heavy theological treatment. The main purpose is to inspire greater participation in intercession.

I especially appreciate the emphasis on evangelism and missions as the main focus of prayer. This brings the book more in line with the trajectory of God's redemptive plan as I understand it. Many of the examples offered as people of prayer help me gain a renewed determination to grow in my own prayer life.

A painful read for your flesh and a great awakening for your spirit. A deep exploration of God's heart and a prayer's role in Christianity life. The words are so sharp, the passion is so strong and the calling is clear. My all time favorite christian book.

Prayer will take you a long ways!

Great Book. Very challenging book! Written in the style of pilgrims progress. It starts with the basic but ends with challenging things.

Reviewers Note: It is the middle of 2025 and I am not doing a good job of keeping up with this desired goal of mine to write book reviews. I do not want to lower my expectations but I am going to so that I can catch up. This will mean short reviews on the books I read.

No Easy Road by Dick Eastman

I had seven highlights from this book even though it is short. I have enjoyed all the books I have read by Dick Eastman so I expected to like this one too. Prayer is hard so any encouragement I can find in books on prayer I will take.

One of my highlights was a quote from Spurgeon which ended with “Pray for prayer—pray till you can pray.” which is such good advice. Sadly we are limited by our lack of prayer. I am one of the worst but thankfully disciples of Jesus do not fight this battle alone.

This was an easy read with good stories. I recommend it to people who want to be encouraged in their prayer lives.

A helpful book on personal prayer. Not as well written as some other works on prayer (eg. E.M. Bounds & Andrew Murray), but a worthwhile read and inspiring in parts.

Some parts I related to much more than others. Great book to help you think in prayer. Also a great little end part with practical advice on how to begin that’s not overwhelming.

A good follow-up to Eastman's "The Hour That Changes the World."
