Dinosaurs Under the Big Sky describes the different species of dinosaurs known to have lived in Montana and explains the scientific importance of their bones and skeletons. Photographs and hundreds of pen-and-ink drawings depict the dinosaur fossils that collectors are most likely to find under Montana's Big Sky.
Amateur and professional dinosaur paleontologists will appreciate this book from the curator the Museum of the Rockies on the important fossil discoveries found in the state of Montana. It is not recommended as a popular science reading but could be a good companion guide for those on the “Montana Dinosaur Trail”, a pilgrimage to the natural history and museum sites of the state. The book is complete with photographs, artwork, and line drawings of dinosaur fossils. It is fully referenced with a list of state and federal agencies. A good book for the dinosaur enthusiast.
Pretty specific book aimed at amateur fossil hunters in Montana. Some good info in there but the bulk of it just was not off interest. So lots of skimming through many chapters.
This is probably my own fault for not paying more attention when I checked out this book, but I was kind of disappointed to discover that this book is specifically about what fossils can be found in Montana. I'd been hoping for a more narrative view of the different epochs and which dinosaurs lived in the area that is now Montana. The information is here, but not in the format I'd been hoping for.
