This is the last of seven books in the Sports Fairies series by the group of authors who go by the name Daisy Meadows. It's a fun series, especially for young girls who are starting to read chapter books. Our oldest is addicted and will often read several in one day! This series has a sports theme and I like that it encourages girls to be active and try new sports.
I have read so many of these books that I must admit I've become immune to their silliness. I love that I can read them after she does and discuss the plots and her thoughts about the story and about what will happen next in the series. We will certainly read more of these books as long as they are still being written. I will always be thankful that this is one series that helped her to develop a love for reading!
June 2012 update: our youngest is now immersing herself in this series and is reading them very quickly, too. As inane as I thought they were, I love that this series is making readers of our girls. Hooray!
Daisy Meadows and her fairies are my childhood. I collected so many in my youth, knowing all the fairies and their importance, and sticking with the two special girls who go to be a part of the magic. Years ago I had to give my beautiful collection away, now still part of my childhood school where little girls are picking their favourite fairies and playing pretend. It's fun to hear stories from my old teachers telling me how over the years so many students have grabbed these books and fallen in love with the tales of two girls, Jack Frost and the fabulous glittering magic that is the fairies. On Christmas last year, my sister surprised me with a boxset of these books, but cause you cannot collect these darlings as easily anymore. I was over the moon! If anyone has a little one who needs a little magic in their life, wants to read and needs a big creation to be hooked on...it is Daisy Meadows!
The Sporty Fairies (U.S name: Sports Fairies) are the 9th series. The Sporty Fairies are responsible for making sure that everyone in fairy land and the human world have fun playing sports. They each have a magic item (related to their sport) and when the goblins steal them this makes sports more difficult for everyone. Not good when the Fairyland Olympics are due to start and kids everywhere are on school holidays.
There are seven Sporty fairies and they are: Helena the Horseriding Fairy, Francesca the Football Fairy, Zoe the Skating Fairy, Naomi the Netball Fairy, Samantha the Swimming Fairy, Alice the Tennis Fairy and Gemma the Gymnastics Fairy.
Action takes place around Tippington Town with Kirsty staying with Rachel.
i couldn’t say that this is a fun read for me, but this book really did put the goblins on the spotlight. out of all the rainbow magic books i’ve read where the kirsty and rachel had to trick the goblins, the goblins did a lot more in this one. plus, so far, the only book where i’ve seen queen titania and jack frost fight, and where i’ve seen kirsty and rachel in fairyland.
lastly, it was nice that kirsty and rachel saw the fairies that they have helped in the fairy olympics :)

This was less about Gemma the Gymnastics fairy and more about goblins, much to the disappointment of my 5yo. I also thought the story was very shallow and a little boring, and my child only seemed mildly interested in reading it.
I love this book. They don’t make up different stories for each chapter which has happened in some of the other books I’ve read. The story is good but I doesn’t get good until the middle of the story.
The sporting fairies blow the final siren as we get a flexible fairy who is prancing about in the gymnastics field to close the series. More of the same. Old Jack Frost is a bit like Wile E Coyote - he just keeps trying to do stupid things to get the other side but never succeeds.
Rachel and Kristy are about to find the last sporty fairy's magical object - Gemma's magical hoop. Rachel and Kristy see someone in the school but Kristy notices that it's someone green. They go inside to check it out. The find goblins practicing for the fairy olympics in the gymnasium. They're working on gymnastics. Rachel and Kristy find Gemma the Gymnastics Fairy inside the gymnasium and she changes their clothes so they can go and train with the goblins. Rachel makes an obstacle course for them and at the end they have to throw a hula hoop over Kristy. When the last goblin throws the hoop over Kristy, Kristy notices that it's the magical hoop and she runs away with it then gives it to Gemma.
I have been reading the series to my girls and they love it. I like it but after a bunch it gets old. I still will read all of them to my girls. Because daisy really knows how to capture her audience! And it is perfect for age group. Excellent!
Five stars, I guess? Because it was a really good book, like really, really! I really really like the book, well, love the book. And I love fairies and Jack Frost makes it scary so I like scary stuff.
I really liked reading another Rainbow Magic series. I was really excited when I saw this series in my sister's book order. I always love reading Daisy Meadow's books, she's a great author.
Yay!!! All the magic sports objects are back in fairy land!! I'm so glad that games and sports are safe and fun for everyone thanks to Rachel and Kristy
