American singing sensation Britney Spears and her mom talk about life, love, fame, and following your dreams.
Britney Spears makes success look simple. As Brit will tell you, though, success is hard work--you need talent, belief in yourself, and someone else who believes in you. For Britney, that person has always been her mother, Lynne Spears, who is not just Britney's mama but also her best friend.
In Britney Spears' Heart to Heart , Britney and Lynne share the inspiring story of how one little girl from Kentwood, Louisiana, turned into a music phenomenon. From the days of singing at talent shows and family gatherings to recording ". . . Baby One More Time" and performing with NSYNC, Britney and Lynne share intimate details about Britney's rise to stardom. But this book is much more than just the story of Britney's life. In their own words, Lynne and Britney talk openly about the challenges facing all mothers and daughters. How do you encourage your child? How do you talk to your mom? How do you overcome obstacles? How do you put together your own "dream team" that will always be there for you? How do you deal with success--and failure? How do you talk about dating and relationships, dress codes, self-esteem, and body image?
Featuring never-before-seen photos and dozens of behind-the-scenes stories about life at home, in the studio, and on the road, Britney Spears' Heart to Heart is not only a must-have for Britney fans, it's also an honest look at what it's like for girls to grow up in today's world. Here's straight talk from the heart, from a mother and daughter who know that love, faith, and family always come first.
Britney Jean Spears (born December 2, 1981) is an American singer, dancer, songwriter, actress and author. She has sold over 83 million records worldwide according to Zomba Label Group. The RIAA ranks her as the eighth best-selling female artist in American music history, having sold 32 million albums in the U.S. Her success as a recording artist has allowed her to work in other media; she has acted in film and television, has written two books, and has been contracted to endorse several products, including her own perfume line.
Spears released her debut album ...Baby One More Time in 1999, propelling her to international stardom. It spawned the Billboard topping single "…Baby One More Time". She released her second studio album Oops!… I Did It Again in 2000 with continued success. A third album Britney was released in 2001, followed by the release of her fourth album In the Zone in 2003. The album's breakout single "Toxic" won Spears her first Grammy Award. After the release of a remix album/greatest hits collection, she released her fifth album Blackout in 2007.
As a result of her fame, Spears's personal life has received much media attention. This only escalated after her marriage to Kevin Federline in 2004. She gave birth to her first child, Sean Preston, in 2005 and to her second child, Jayden James, in 2006. The couple's divorce in November of the same year was highly publicized, followed by an ongoing custody battle over their sons.
I read this when I was young, around 2003/2004, and looking back at it now, it's really upsetting to know how a hopeful young girl could be shattered by the media.
It's been years since I read this book. I read it when Britney was still sweet and innocent and not tormented by the media. From what I remember, I enjoyed it. It tells about her upbringing and rise to fame and boyfriends and family etc. Reading it now might give me a different opinion knowing all the madness that is Britney's life but it's full of great pictures and worth checking out.
This book is very innocent. I had to read it for work some years ago, and I remember that it didn't give me any new info. The writing style is very sweet, and this book is more for fans than anyone else.
I remember where I got this from now. Goodwill. For 25 cents. But I do like Britney. I felt bad for her when she made the whole Kevin decision, I felt bad for her when she was going through the rest of the drama a few years back, the obvious problems with her family, etc. I feel like she's probably one of the more down to earth celebrities out there. I could be wrong, I've never met the girl, but that's the impression I get. Althought apparently if I show up at their door in Kentwood her mama will probably invite me in for coffee according to Brit in this book. Silly me, I thought I'd be "escorted" off of their property - IF I could even make it on. And by "escorted" I actually mean "thrown" or "swept". But this book has some cool pictures in it, from when Britney was a baby up until when it was published. It's actually a good number of years old so newer pictures are of course missing. The fun thing about reading it now was coming across something like this where she's talking about being/not being a role model " .... If I am (a role model), then I'm proud to be one, but I'm not doing anything different with my life because kids are looking up to me. I'm not acting any more responsibly - I'm hardly the type to rebel or go wild and crazy anyway." Or when she talked about how irresponsible the media is at times. It certainly is. But she is also. She said something like she wished they'd realize what they do has consequences. Indeed. But mostly the book is too preachy for me. For most people I would think. Maybe excepting little girls who love her. Her Mom, Lynne, and her go back and forth and basically all Lynne does is try to be Dear Abby with a touch of spice and prove how unlike a stage mom she is. But the thing is, she doesn't come off like too big of a stage mom. Maybe a little but I guess you'd have to if you carried a kid all the way to the top maybe. But by trying to disprove this she makes it seem all the more so. I'm not sure which one said it but one of them even said that trying to discourage a rumor brings more attention to it. The same applies here. Leave it alone. Take your own advice and be yourself! Curiously, her Dad plays nearly no part in this - he's almost not even mentioned. Brian, Jamie, Laura Lynn, a host of other family, friends, and coworkers are mentioned, in varying degrees, but no Dad. What's up with that? Not that I care, I didn't want to read about him really but it seems strange to me that they all got time in the book with the exception of him. Anyway, it's worth the quarter.
When Britney first came out, I thought she was just another singer. Then, as I saw the interviews, I noticed, she's just a normal teenage girl. She kind of reminded me of me. Then, when I read this book, I was blown away. I thought I was weird for having a close relationship with my mother. Apparently, I'm not the only one who's close to their mom. Britney and her mom are like best friends and their relationship is almost exactly like mine with my mother.
This book tells how Britney grew up poor, but rich. Her family may not have always had enough money or even phone service, but she still had love. The respect that her family has for one another is amazing. She had a terrific relationship with her brother, who in typical big-brother fashion, watched over her like a hawk. She has an adorable little sister who admires her.
Britney learned to sing when she was 3. She started dancing the year before. She always loved to perform, but was always so shy about regular conversations.
This book tells the story of the famous teen pop star in a rags to riches sort of way. It examines her friendships, her MMC days, and things teenage girls and moms have to talk about. It shows that with a little faith and love, you can go so far. This book also has a ton of great pictures (including some of Justin and JC of *NSYNC and Christina Aguilera).
I think if you want to read a touching mother-daughter book or you're a Britney fan, you should get this book. It's amazing.

This inspiring story, told from the perspective of a mother and her then teen idol daughter (now 15 years later is even more of a massive celebrity), truly emphasizes the importance of familial love and support and how crucial it can be to a child's future success. It also stresses how valuable a belief in ones self is to achieve all of your goals. I read it in one sitting! Absolutely LOVED it.
I love Britney Spears, I have loved her since I was a kid, so of course I was very excited to find this book! I read it pretty quickly and loved it. The only reason it didn't get 4 or 5 stars was because it was lacking some details, I wanted an in depth look into her journey to success. Overall, it was a very good book. I would recommend to all Britney Spears fans.
I really enjoyed this book! It was awesome to see how Britney used to be back in her prime. Hearing her story, learning about her faith and perspectives was really interesting. It was so heartwarming to see how close her and her mom were. I felt nostalgic because I was only 5 when this book was written and when I was in my prime as a Britney fan. There was nothing special about this book, but I did enjoy it!
This book is very much the vibe I got from Britney herself, sweet, a homegirl who tried to see the best In everything. While it's not hard to believe that in her early career she felt mostly blessed and supported by her family given how sheltered they kept her and how little control she later would have. It makes me sad it couldn't stay about her love of performing.
After reading her memoir last year, I decided to pick this book up. It definitely hits differently now after everything she has been through. Still, I’m always glad to read about Britney.
I've had this book on my shelf for over 8 years and I never wrapped my head around the idea of reading it, it was more of a collector's item. Now, it is just a 'sad sad' reading, along with some very interesting insights fans would love about her upbringing and stardom. How someone could be working at the age of 12 is beyond my understanding :( The ending was so emotional and I can only hope she gets the happiness and calmness she's built up, away from everything.
A scrapbook full of personal philosophy and unsolicited advice. Felt much more like someone made an outline and asked Lynne and Britney to comment on each topic and then they added in a bunch of pictures, than a “book”. Definitely don’t consider this a biography. And keep in mind it was written at the peak of her early career. I am a fan, but I don’t own all her albums. I watched the “framing Britney Spears” documentary regarding her conservatorship and got curious about her story. This didn’t help that curiosity, but did kind of foreshadow that her break down years later was inevitable. Shows how false all the happiness and shit they claim in this book is.
And the best quote (this was in 2000 at age 20), “can you imagine how silly I would look if I dressed the same at forty as I do now?” ...😒
I don’t think she deserves where she is at today by any means. We are all allowed to breakdown, fall apart and run away. The conservatorship sounds like a bullshit way to control her and keep her money flowing in. #freebritney
Finished it in one day. Super easy. I'm interested in Britney's mental health. She seems perfectly fine, quite lovely actually in her early years. She seemed strong, amused by the publicity and joyful about her popularity. An American success story, a pop princess like no other. She is a healthy young woman at the end of this book with a family that loves her dearly. However, to me it seems that she was too perfect, too hot, too beautiful and the media couldn't wait to destroy her. Fame is a monster is all I can say. They're still making money off her, she isn't doing well and I hope she finds peace soon.
Hmmm...nothing much I guess, I only bought and read this because I'm a Britney fan. But it's one of those books you read when you feel down or when you want to know the "old" Britney when she's doing yet another disaster...;( a must have for fans, the pic's are lovely and you might not get them else where and it's also co-written by her mom as well: Lynn Spears.
I bought this book when it first came out in 2000. I always thought I'd read it and year after year it sat on my bookshelf, but I couldn't bear to get rid of it. I love Britney too much and needed to read it. Now, 17 years later after watching her life spiral out of control and rebound, it's amazing to read where she came from and where she wanted to go. Even now, as a mom, the parts written by Lynne (her mama) hit home and I can relate to this book on a level I never anticipated.
Great read. Great teamwork. Loved the insight to my favorite celebrity's early years.
Growing up in the 90’s she was it! We all loved her! Learning how it all began & the type of person she was so enjoyable! Fan girl! She was truly blessed with a support group! Lastly the photos in this book were fun getting to see her so young and see her grow!
Enter an unknowable netherworld of hydrochloric weirds, new faces in hell, hideous replicas of much-loathed dog breeders and a worldview that sneers at pretty much everyone.
Such a throwback- I was obsessed with this book when I was young, and I think it’ll give me such good vibes if I can find it in my house to flip through again! 😄
