Ritchie Ranch #2

Lassoing the Cowboy’s Heart

Rate this book
She’s a country mouse. He’s a country music star. Opposites attract but these two have more in common than they thought.
Hattie Swan has secret dreams of being a photographer, but after her parents pass away, she’s left running the family market. Everything, including her love life, plays second fiddle. When a famous musician saunters into her store humming her favorite tune, she’s smitten. Too bad he’s out of her league.

Duke Ritchie is back home in Smuggler’s Springs to help rescue the family ranch when he runs into a beautiful woman at the local market. Even though he helps uncover crimes against the ranch likely caused by a rival family, he can’t take his mind off her. Too bad he’s heading back out on tour soon.

Everything Hattie wants seems just out of reach until Duke offers to play at the Fall Fair, which she organizes, bringing them together. Unfortunately, someone wants to see the event, and the Ritchie property, in ruins.

At the barn dance, Hattie and Duke are just one kiss away from forever, but can they have both their Texas-sized dreams and each other?

This is book 2 in the Richie Ranch Clean Cowboy Romance series. Because of a mystery subplot, the first three in the series are best read in order for a deeper, richer experience. It is a sweet, small-town, cowboy “clean and wholesome” romance that’s Christian faith-friendly without swearing or mature content and contains a happily ever after.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This is the second story of the series. It can be read as a stand-alone (but I would recommend reading them in order.) There is an underlying theme of possible buried treasure and finding the clues to lead the Ritchie clan to it.

Duke is the lead singer for the group C.o.w.b.o.y.s. He comes home to spend the next month with family before going on the next tour that will take him and the group to Asia for several months. He stops at the local market for a bite to eat as his parents are at a meeting. There he connects with a local girl that he went to school with, Hattie Swan. Hattie has always wanted to go to college to studying photography. She wanted to be a photojournalist and travel the world. Unfortunately for Hattie, her parents died in a car accident. She can't stand to make changes now. That causes her grief for her lost parents so she has stayed home and the market and her home have stayed the same for 10 years (falling into some disrepair.)

Watching these two growing together and changing along the way in the month that Duke has home was a joy to read. This book is written in a dual POV format. That really helped to make them so humanistic. It was also nice to see the first book's couple, Parker and Amelia, make multiple appearances as well as others in the Ritchie family.

This is a sweet, clean romance. There is a Christian theme throughout. If you love reading a well-written story with some mystery to it, then I would highly recommend this one.

Once you lasso a cowboy, he's yours forever...

Hattie gate up her dreams to stay and run the family market after her parents' deaths. She's had a crush on Duke forever. His band is on a month long break, so he's back in Smuggler's Springs to help with issues relating to his family's ranch. This book continues part of the story that began in Rustling the Cowboy's Heart. The Ritchie family is still trying to find the "treasure" on the ranch, with some additional help from Hattie and Duke. Rex is still an idiot, trying to figure out how to confiscate the Ritchie Ranch. Duke gives us a little more history on his family, which is fascinating and adventurous. Hattie is sweet and kind, working so hard in the market, but frustrating in that she gives up on her faith and prayer. Duke was frustrating as well, when he can't seem to make up his mind. He wants Hattie forever, and says he's not afraid of what will happen with the band, then figures he can't give Hattie forever because of the band. Thank goodness for his momma's kick in the rear to knock some sense into him. The issues of the ranch treasure, and Rex's involvement, have not been completely resolved, setting us up for more in the series.

This is the second installment of the Ritchie Ranch series. Although I think it can be read as a standalone, I would definitely read from the beginning because it is simply more enjoyable! This is Duke and Hattie's story. They gre up together in Smuggler's Cove. Duke is back in his hometown for a visit before he goes on tour with his music band. He reconnects with Hattie at her family's store. As Duke spends more time with her, he realizes his feelings for her are very strong. As for Hattie, well she has always had a crush on Duke, but never thought he would notice. These were two very lovely characters and I enjoyed watching their relationship grow and blossom. All the while searching for treasure and Duke helping Hattie also deal with the loss of her parents. A very clean romance with just enough tension to keep me swooning! I enjoyed this second installment and am definitely looking forward to reading the next one!

I was gifted an advanced reader's copy by the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.

In this return to the Ritchie Ranch, we get the story of Hattie and Duke. Hattie has crushed on Duke for years, but she never thought he would notice her. When Duke returns to Smuggler’s Springs, Texas, he stops at Swan’s Family Market and makes his presence known when a female customer is giving Hattie a hard time. Duke is a member of C.o.w.b.o.y.s and the customer asks for his autograph. They talk after she closes the market and Rex Cole, troublemaker, pulls up. The Cole’s want the Ritchie land and of course, Rex is up to no good in this story too. If you enjoy books about close family sticking together and a side of suspense, grab your copy and see what happens. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series to see if they ever find any actual treasher on the ranch.

On his first night back from touring the world with the C.o.w.b.o.y.s. (a country music band), Duke met Hattie at her family’s store. As they reconnect and spend time together looking for the treasure on the Ritchie land, Duke discovers his love for Hattie…
I found it inspiring how Duke helped Hattie in her grief over the loss of her parents, as well as finding her way back to God and Jesus, in short, her faith. Though clearly a testimony, the characters are relatable in their humanness, being normal people assailed with every day life problems. It is an uplifting story and offers hope.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Hattie Swan thinks of herself as the ugly duckling with glasses; stuck in her hometown running her deceased parents struggling store. Duke Ritchie is a successful country singer with adoring fans. He's back in town to help his relatives fight off the machinations of the greedy dirty Rex and solve the mystery of the ranch. Hattie has a nice little family store and loves to take pictures. She also uses her math and deductive skills to help the Ritchies find more pieces to the puzzle. Duke is attracted to her but he's not sure about a relationship because he's going back on tour soon. This was a sweet cowboy Christian romance with a mystery.

Sweet clean romance with Hattie and Duke who both grew up in Smugglers Cove and meet again years later when he comes back to town on a break from his country music tour. She is busy running her family market after the unexpected death of her parents which makes her distant herself from the church but with Dukes help she begins to realize that God missing from her life is something she needs to change but what will she do when he goes back on tour.

“Us Ritchie men take a while to settle down, but once you lasso a cowboy, he’s yours forever,” Duke said.

It’s time to lasso the heart. Hattie’s dreams of being a photographer and Duke is a singer home to help the family protect their ranch. I had a great time with not only the well developed and engaging characters but the storyline flowed smoothly throughout the pages.

No treasure yet

Fun story about Duke, a Cowboy rock star and Hattie, a small town shop keeper. I loved the chemistry between the characters. Ellie Hall did a wonderful job of creating tension and helping Hattie and Duke solve their dilemmas and plan a future together. I can’t wait to read about finding the treasure.

This was the second book in the series and it is really best to read in order. This was also a cute clean cowboy romance. But I had the same problem with this story as with the first namely the way it was written.

I’m fangirling over this book.
The Richie Ranch saga continues and the plot thickens as the Richie family tries to find the source of the problems plaguing their farm.
Duke and Hattie have chemistry that sizzles and pops from meet (or already-met) cute. I loved this story, more than the first one. Is that even possible.
I can’t wait for the next installment!
