I read this with my first grader. There's a lot of technical science terms that are tricky for him to read, and the storyline wasn't as compelling as Big Paw.

It's a little unclear if the animals in this universe are people like bears are or if they're just animals, but this was a really nice take on environmentalism.

The Berenstain Bears are always a hit and I discovered this (very old) book in a bunch of books that we are planning to give away. I'd never read it before, so I gave it a peek.

I thought Actual Factual Bear was hilarious and the catfish, Old Jake, reminds me of The Lorax. I see this book was adapted in the 1990s and incorporated into The Berenstain Bear Scouts series.

The ecological message is good, if a bit heavy handed and completely unrealistic in the solution for 'who pays for the clean up'? Still, it's an entertaining story and is sure to appeal to fans of this series.

I always like the Berenstein Bears, but this was just off. The odd Deus ex Machina ending lost a star.
