Everyone loves a bedtime story — even Peter Pan himself, who plucked the Darling children from their nursery one night just so Wendy could tell him stories. Join Peter, Tinkerbell, and the Darling children on a magical adventure to Neverland. This new Classic Pop-Ups book brings the beloved J. M. Barrie tale to life with marvelous illustrations by Paul Hess, extraordinary pop-ups, and atmospheric sounds and music. Fly with Peter Pan over London while Big Ben peals over the dark city; enjoy a laugh in Peter's underground home; hear the tick-tocking crocodile attack Captain Hook; and sail back home through the clouds on the Jolly Roger. Peter Pan is an absolutely enchanting book for children of all ages — including adults who never grew up themselves.

Wonderful - bought for school library, the kids were fighting to touch it so i decided it had to come home with me - finding it irresistable and keep showing it to anyone in front of me. might be a tad scary for wee ones though, two of the sound effects area wee bit creepy.
A pop up book to introduce children to the story of Peter Pan. With pop up pictures and sounds makes the book interactive and engaging for the children.
You’ll never catch me passing up an opportunity to add another edition of the adventures of Peter Pan to my collection, and yet somehow this is my first pop-up edition of the story! I was immediately enchanted by artist Paul Hess’ lively interpretation of the Darling childrens’ journey to Neverland alongside Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, following the multidimensional sweep of their star-spangled magic past a looming Big Ben and far away from the iconic London skyline as we dive straight into the story with little ado. This quick visual pacing is a touch jarring, even if the narrative does manage to maintain a decent semblance of the original story and language, but with the few pages afforded to pop-up books we have to give them liberty to move things along quickly and fill in the rest of the story with our imaginations. Later spreads are simpler than the splash that started the story, utilizing a simple layered scene to show the inside of the tree Peter and the Lost Boys call home, a simple boat to illustrate the dramatic rescue of Tiger Lily from the pirates, and a few pages that stick to simple flat graphics to ensure that we don’t miss out on too much story narration. It isn’t until we see the emergence of the ticking crocodile at the climax of the battle with Hook and the romantic return journey to the Darlings’ home in Kensington that we are treated to any more fully realized pop-up scenes - bringing the narrative to a satisfying (and visually stunning) conclusion. Were Hess’ illustrations not quite done justice in this reproduction - yes. But it’s hard not to get swept away in the classic charm of this story and the fun pop-up style that brings it to life.
This pop up book is a fantstic interactive version of the well known classic story. I have shared this book with three reception classes, with each class throughly enjoying the story. The sounds brought the book to life with both boys and girls listening attentively and giggling to the sounds as the pages were turned (they particularly liked the ticking of the clock ater Croc had swallowed it!)
This book with its pop up pictures and sounds is a great way to introduce younger children to the story of Peter Pan. As the book has quite a large amount of text I would recommend reading it over a few sessions, with a recap of what has been read previously the next time the book is shared.
Although I have used this book within the Early Years Foundation Stage it could also be shared with KS1 or left in the reading corner to encourage independent reading.
