ok I am going to shuck the normal review and just post my thoughts on how I felt while reading this book. "did I miss something" "is this the first book" *re-reads the front cover* "really?" "oh come on" *puts down book* " shut up and have sex already" "this sex scene sucks" "Justice is hot!" " am I at the end yet" " Aww that was a sweet ending, now I have to read the next" The end. I kept out all the eye rolling I did because there was a lot. I won't be in a rush to read the next, but I will eventually get around to reading some more from this series. I did find some of the other warriors to be interesting.
Read with my smut loving ladies from MacHalo Freaks group:-)
This is an old school Paranormal Romance, which I probably would have rated higher had I read it 10 years ago when it was written. So many of the typical components of a PNR have became predictable and taken for granted now, when at the time were new and unexpected. However, this is still a fun, well written story, and I appreciate the little things that make it unique.
The Atlantian Prince meets an empathic human girl next door, sparks fly and insta-lust is born. Paranormal creatures have come out in the human world and the potential power battles and influence issues that arise become the background to their love story. We are also introduced to a bunch of hot, confident, full of testosterone Atlantian warriors, who I am sure are being set up for the following books as potential love interests.
Not something extraordinary, but a pleasant read to spend an afternoon with. Have a pleasant reading experience:-)
Couldn't finish this book. It is just like every other paranormal romance. We have the muscle-bound warrior with special powers that is part of some kind of brotherhood that protects humanity from some threat or another. Of course he comes across his life-mate, who is inevitably in some sort of danger, and takes her back to their safehouse or compound to keep her safe (and have sex). He is super jealous and possessive and growls a lot. There was just NOTHING new or interesting or original so it was pretty boring. If you haven't read many of this genere then you may try it, but if you are already well-aquainted then I suggest skipping this one.
Riley Dawson has had a bad day at work, a really bad day, so she seeks solace as she always has, in sitting on the beach and watching the ocean. Just to be attacked by vampires and then saved by a man, Conlan, who claims he is from the lost city of Atlantis. The attraction between the two of them is instant and all consuming, however they also have other problems. Posiedons Trident has been stolen and they must get it before it lands in undead hands, otherwise as the crazy people with placards say "The End is Nigh."
I am so undecided on this book, I think I want to like it alot more then I actually do. So to make it easier I am going to compose a "Pros and Cons" list
Pro
I liked the idea of it, that Atalantis hadn't been lost, merely hidden to protect itself from vampires and shapeshifters. I also liked the band of seven warriors that protect the prince, Conlan our hero, and I assume characters for the next books, you get to learn new things about each of the characters through both Riley and Conlan's eyes and it has me looking forward to all their books.
It was also well written and easy to read, very similar in style to Sherrilyn Kenyon, with short paragraphs and short melodramatic sentences. This leant to the intensity if the love story between Conlan and Riley, who very quickly fall in love and although they haven't known eachother the love and passion between them doesn't feel forced or out of place. Infact the steamy scenes in this book were great, the book wasn't overloaded with them but when they did finally get down and dirty it was HOT!
Cons
This book was very short! Under 300 pages, which is how I managed to whizz through it in under 24 hours! This means that although the basic outline of the world was there it didn't seem to go into any depth with the world building. I had no sense of Atlantis at all, which wasn't such a big problem in this book as it was set on land but I was curious and it never appeased my curiousity. However, I hope in the next book this will be addressed.
Although I mentioned the writing in the Pros list, I must also mention it in the Cons list aswell. I don't mind Alyssa Day's style of writing, but it isn't my favourite and isn't something I could read for too long without it driving me mad. What also annoyed me, was her over use of the phrase "Kick some ass" it was just a little thing, but really, how many times can people say that! Surely there are other ways to phrase it!
I also found the main characters a bit flat, especially Conlan, he seems to have come straight from the factory of hot and tortured hero without any distinguishing characteritics being added. However, I am hoping this doesn't continue in to the rest of the series as the other characters seem to be alot more rounded, even though they were only secondary in this (very short) book!
In Conclusion...
I liked this book, I have the next three and I am looking forward to reading them, although I seem to have more Cons then Pros, I did enjoy it, and although this series hasn't had the greatest start, it was a good basis and I am hoping that this series gets better as it goes on.
Original review: watch this video by Grout for Atlantis Rising. It's from Alyssa Day's website, and it's an original song/video filmed just this summer. LOVED IT! (both the book and the video)
This series is being re-released and holy moly look at that new cover. I'll give you a moment ;)
I read this years and years ago like, 2009 maybe? It's been a while. When I was offered the chance to review it, of course I said yes. Re-reading a favorite is never a chore.
I've always loved her Warriors of Poseidon series. It's unique, which during the mid-'00s was hard to find.
This book opens with High Prince Conlan entering Atlantis for the first time in over seven years. He'd been captured and tortured in a demon realm and he's just been released. He isn't...normal yet. But there's no chance to recover, Poseidon's Trident was stolen by one of their own and they need to get it back ASAP. He joins with his seven best warriors and they head to the surface.
The vampires have come out to the world and are insinuating themselves into politics and world leader positions. Humans have a curfew, and Riley Dawson is out past curfew after having a hell of a day. Sitting on the beach trying to get her mind to settle down, she notices three vampires coming her way. Riley is an empath, and she's projecting her emotions loud and clear without realizing it. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal, but Conlan can pick up her feelings and as he surfaces from the water, he abandons his task and goes straight to her.
Riley doesn't understand this connection she has with Conlan, but she's willing to explore it. But before they can enjoy their inst-lust fun, vampires and battles get in the way. And after one of those battles, she finds out that her sister is the leader of the human rebellion, because not everyone is happy with how the vampires took over after they came out. Meanwhile, they still need to find the trident and figure out why the vampire goddess let Conlan go.
What I loved about this book was that it doesn't feel like it's bogged down with world-building or First Book in the Series Syndrome. I also enjoy Alyssa Day's sense of humor. It has the old school band of brothers feel that I sometimes miss now. This book has all the hallmarks of the heyday of PNR. A tortured hero, the warrior group of men who keep humanity safe, and the women who keep their butts in line. I enjoyed it, and I'm glad it's getting re-released.
I think when I first read it I gave it a 4, but I've reread it several times over the years, and I just feel that any book I enjoy more than once gets bumped up to a 5.
Wow! I knew I would like this series but never this much. I couldn't put this book down; and it is a first book in a series, which are never this good. I can't wait to see how I feel about the rest of them.
I loved the topic. This warriors from Atlantis were hot as hell. The characters were all amazing, with great and strong personalities. The heroine had a very entertaining personality; she made me laugh too many times. I loved to read about a brotherhood of warriors again. I had no idea how much I missed this, the companionship between so many characters and the hopes to get to know them all better.
This was an amazing read and I can't wait to read more. My only problem was that I would have liked it better if it had a deeper plot. Also their enemies were too easily beaten IMHO. But there were many great moments. Loved it!
Woo Hoo! Alyssa Day has certainly caught my attention with an empathic Riley Dawson and a hot group of Poseidon’s warriors that are on a treasure hunt, of sorts. I know I’m all tingly and ready to go. lol
Her grief called to him. It would not be denied. He must go to her.
The mental telepathic dialogue had me cracking up, so I put a smile on my face and prepared myself for a fun, sexy read. I mean, she’s an empath and he’s a high prince, the first of Poseidon’s warriors, so what could possibly go wrong.
“You’re not going to drink my blood or rip my arms off, are you? Because my day has really sucked, and I’m so not up for that,” she said…
Barrabas, a powerful vampire, felt the disturbance caused by their meeting. Oh man, so cool. Water warriors and blood sucking Vampires. What more could I want? I am hooked and happy.
Everything Conlan does is for Atlantis, so denying his overwhelming desire for Riley, who is not only a forbidden human, but also an empath, literally brought him to his knees. Conlan and his warriors were tasked with protecting the humans from shapeshifters and vampires, and were clearly from the Land of Hunk.
I am feeling upbeat, having fun, sharing Conlan and Riley’s internal dialogue and lovin ‘ every minute of it. And now we find out why they are above ground…Poseidon’s Trident has been stolen. Conlan could lose his kingdom if they don’t recover it.
“You’re not a vampire, because you’ve got a heartbeat,” she said. “Are you a shapeshifter? What kind of furry are you going to get?” He laughed. “I’m not going to turn furry, brave one. I am nothing you know.”
Conlan knows that empaths don’t exist, yet here’s Riley. He also knows that the soul meld doesn’t exist, yet how to explain the sparks between them.
Well, Alyssa, you drew me in, kept me riveted to the pages, worrying and fretting, laughing and smiling, never letting me go. The action kept the story flowing as I devoured the words. The world created was full of wonder and I am so happy to have been able to visit Atlantis and meet all these fabulous characters that escaped from the mind of Alyssa Day.

Alyssa Day's debut has muscular, to die for underwater warriors galore, but all the action happens on land. There is so much going on in this book with vampires trying to take over the world, a priest from the underwater stealing a statue for no reason and the so called King Conan coming back after 7 years of abuse from a evil vampire queen who had an incentous affair with her father who became her husband which she killed in return.(out of breath!)
Plus along the way is the the human heroine who can read emotions, who in less than 48 hours falls in love with King Conan and almost dies too many times to count.
The seven plus warriors trying to save Earth and keep watch over their King talk like California surfers one minute and then olde English the next. The action, killing and of course time for loving is all done in under 300 pages of over the top nonsense.
The villians are laughworthy and the hero and heroine, who have gone through sooo much in their lives are just too boring. Some may not mind the spunky heroine Riley (cool name by the way), but Conan the hero king is just too dull and stereotypical.
And since there are 8 more warriors to go, this series could go on forever! If you want a nice taste of underwater hot men, try Gena Showalter. Her Atlantis series is light-hearted, sexy and just plain fun (which she purposely does).
Many of the things happening in this novel are suppose to be serious, but overall make the mistake of being comical.
Edit: Laaaannnnnn!!!! Alaric'in öyküsü taaaaaaa 8.kitaptaymış. Hayın yazar allahsız yazar. Kalemin kırılsın bilgisayarın bozulsun yazar.
Yay! This was such a fun read! Just for the record, though, you need to be in the right frame of mind to really enjoy this book. If you are expecting anything with even a touch of reality...well, you're just out of luck. Atlantis Rising is a grade-A Guilty Pleasure, so unless you are willing to set aside the tendency to roll you eyes, you probably won't enjoy it. Embrace the Cheese!
OMG - this was the best book ever - it made me laugh, made me cry, filled my heart full of joy, aroused me sexually and my wonderful husband payed for it - LOL
The story wraps around Conlan, the high prince of Atlantis and the emphath Riley - who is blessed with a mind link that only Atlanteans have been able to access for thousands of years.
The characters in this story are awsome and very humorous and of course the badass warriors. The story is full of adventure in their persuit of getting the Trident back that was stolen and killing all the evil vampires. They even team up with the shape-shifters with the help of Riley's sister Quinn.
The story ends great and Colan ends up the King of Atlantis with his new bride and Queen who by the way happens to be a decendent of Poseidon (Sea God); I don't want to ruin the surprise of which decendent she is so you will have to read the book to find out. Also Riley finds out that she is pregnant with Colan's child - What a happy ending. I absolutely loved it. I can't wait to read the next book - Atlantis Awakening
This is one hot and steamy read. Run don't walk and get this book! The Warriors of Poseidon are a group of warriors for the God of the Sea, Poseidon. They also have a great touch of alpha male going on! Conlan is the High Prince of Atlantis, thought to be dead, who just escaped from a torturous seven years with Anubibas. Once freed and realizing the Trident has been taken the warriors have to go after it. When Conlan meets Riley soon after the search begins, the connection is immediately. I never once gave a second thought to how quickly Conlan and Riley connected. Sometimes in a book the characters are declaring their love so suddenly that you think, "seriously?",but the story moved along so well I totally forgot it had only been a day or two since their first encounter. I loved how there was action throughout the book. I just couldn't put it down or turn the page fast enough.
I can't wait to start the next book! Woo hoo Bastien, here I come!
Suspenseful, action packed, fast moving & the right amount of romance. This is a great series that I waited too long to start. There are vampires & were-critters living among humans. The Atlanteans who are sworn to protect the humans must remain unseen & unknown to the human landwalkers. Conlan is the high prince who falls in love with a very human Riley, even though he is by Atlantean ways supposed to marry an Atlantean virgin. He & his band of 7 warriors & priest are on a quest to regain his stolen trident. There is a whole lot going on in this book, very hard to put down. An AWESOME read!
On bin yıldır görülmemiş bir Aknasha. Aknashalar, başkalarının zihinlerine girebilir ve duygularını hissedebilirler. .

Atlantis Rising is book 1 in Alyssa Day's Warriors of Poseidon series.
Riley Dawson is a social worker in Virgina Beach who is close to burning out if she's not there already. She's just witnessed too many bad situations and deaths with her job. She feels that she is fighting an uphill battle with all losses and no wins. When she fails yet again to help a client, she needs comfort. Maybe a visit to the beach will help clear her head of the awful pictures that are left behind from the horrible day that she's had. The beach always seems to calm her. Hopefully nothing will go wrong even though it is close to curfew. The world has changed. About ten years ago the Vampires and Shape-shifters decided to make their presence known to the humans. It's not safe to be out after curfew...
Conlan, the high prince of Atlantis, has finally made it home after 7 years of torture at the hands of Anubisa, the vampire goddess of death. It rankled him to know that she had released him rather than him escaping her but at least he was home. Upon his homecoming though he finds that all is not well in Atlantis. One of his people, Reisen, has stolen Poseidon's Trident. He must go to the surface to find the Trident and to deliver justice to the House of Mycenae for the theft. How was he to what he would find...
I really liked this book. The world that Alyssa day has created is exciting and interesting. She has introduced us to the wonderful powers over the elements that her Atlanteans use. The empathic powers that Riley holds are a new realization to her and we, as readers, are swept along with her journey to learn more about them. The romance between her and Conlon is believable and enjoyable. It was funny to watch Conlon's ferocious reactions to anybody showing too much attention to Riley. They were not to touch her!
In this we have a bunch of warriors from Atlantis. There are seven of them, I think. The female lead, Ripley, is a pretty great character. She's funny, been through a shifty time concerning work, has a connection to the ocean, and has one heck of a mouth, I liked her. The male character, in my opinion, was a bit flat. He had just, the same day, finally gotten away from seven years of torture from a sic, headed vampire goddess (I think she was a goddess, maybe queen). I feel he should have been a bit more reluctant, scarred internally, or something than the way he was written. The storyline was good, but at times I never thought the story was ever going to venture outside of a safehouse. There was a bit too much conversation going on for my liking. There was a good deal of bromance going on and i liked how there is already plot twists that will most definitely be the topic of focus for the second book. If this goes well, this could possibly be a reallly grezt series. The writing is decent and I have high hopes that this author will do better with other books in this series. All that said, this story was decent, and there is just enough that liked to get me to look at the next book... if it's available.
Jajajaja
A solid meh. Maybe should have been a two star, but I'll go with the benefit of the doubt for now. *edit - upon further consideration it was only worth two.
So the Prince of Atlantis was captured and tortured by a goddess of evil for seven years. That's an awful lot of torture. Then she just lets him go? Don't understand that. First day back he takes his seven most trusted warriors and sets out for another quest? Don't understand that either. A lot of other things happen with no apparent reason.
I don't see myself reading the rest of the series. Perhaps if someone gave them to me and I had nothing that caught my eye, sure. But I won't be actively pursuing them.
First in the Warriors of Poseidon paranormal-romance series revolving around the Seven, an elite guard for the High Prince of Atlantis. The couple focus here is on Prince Conlan and Riley Dawson, a social worker.
My Take This start to the series introduces us to the series' characters along with their primary mission and the dangers that accompany that mission. And if I hadn't read a couple of short stories in this series, this is probably the last installment I would have read. Day is such a drama queen with the clichés running fast and furious. However, I did enjoy the shorties so I'll give it another couple of tries...fingers crossed.
I wish that Day would take a leaf out of J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series on language and male interrelationships; I have no objection to her warriors of Poseidon interspersing slang and formal language but if she's going to use slang, then use it. Not these half-hearted bits and pieces. Although, I did enjoy the fishy swearing and the movie references! Then there's the snarking the warriors do off each other. It's not enough. It feels so touchy-feely as opposed to male.
Day leads us to believe that Anubisa has some secret purpose in releasing Conlan and then...nothing. Did she forget she'd left that loose thread dangling?
The Story Anubisa is certainly cocky. Letting Prince Conlan go so close to the time for his investiture as King of Atlantis after torturing him for the past seven years. Unless she foresaw that the High Prince of Atlantis would fall in love with a human and violate the rules. A violation that would result in total annihilation of the world.
Riley has had a miserable day. Shot by the boyfriend of one of her clients, almost raped on the beach by three muggers, and someone is talking inside her head. A someone who turns out to be 6-foot-6 of heavily muscled gorgeousness who just saved her ass. Conlan is shocked to find her, an aknasha, an empath who pulls at his heart.
Conlan is torn between the need to protect and study this empath and the greater need to retrieve the Trident of Poseidon from that traitor, Reisin. A difficult decision made worse when vampires continually attack Riley and the worry that Riley's empathic abilities can be used against the warriors.
The Characters Riley Elisabeth Dawson is an empathic social worker concerned about righting the wrongs in the world. Her sister Quinn has taken a more aggressive approach to do the same with the shapeshifters. Interesting romantic tension Day is setting up between Quinn, Alaric, and Jack.
High Prince Conlan has been imprisoned by an evil goddess, Anubisa, for the past seven years. Heartsick because he could not free himself and worried that his mind may have been corrupted by the bitch. The Seven are an elite guard protecting each Court of Atlantis. Conlan's Seven include the King's Vengeance "Ven", Conlan's younger brother; Alexios had been a prisoner of Anubisa's; Denal is the youngest; Brennan was cursed with no emotions after doing the naughty with a Roman senator's daughter; Lord Justice; Bastien; and, Christophe. Alaric is the high priest of Poseidon and cousin to Conlan; they had been fast friends raising hell around the kingdom before duty called them. He remains in power as long as he is celibate.
Reisen is of another House of Atlantis and believes that it is time for Atlantis to take its rightful place as the ruler of all mankind.
Jack Shepherd is a weretiger and very interested in Quinn. He's part of the attacking group on Barrabas' stronghold when Quinn and her shapeshifters team up with the warriors. Daniel is a vampire informant providing Quinn with inside details.
Anubisa is the goddess of death and the mother of all vampires---emphasis on mother! And not in a good way. Lord High Vampire Barrabas, a.k.a., Senator Barnes, and leader of the Primus is killing off the opposition in Congress and the Senate in order to push through a new bill that will enhance vampire rights and reduce those of humans. For he intends to rule the world. Drakos is Barrabas' second-in-command but not one of his siring.
The Cover and Title One of the rare covers that actually reflects the story! Who knew!? A very nice...hmmm...shirt-clad torso emerging from the blue-green waters with Hellenic ruins below in the deeper green waters. I like the pearl buttons...nice touch.
The title is certainly accurate, for with the vampires and shapeshifters announcing their existence to the human world and the covenant breaking, it is Atlantis Rising.
Given the cover, I was pretty sure Atlantis wouldn't be the only thing rising in this one....
Near the end of 2020, I read Day's Tiger Eye Investigations series set in Dead Eye, FL. It was short and fun, sort of paranormal mystery cozies. There's a scene involving stampeding alligators I'm still laughing about. The main character in that series, Jack, was a secondary character in this first book (and I'm assuming other books) of this earlier Day series. So, of course I was going to read it for more of his backstory. I don't think it's that bad in spite of the unrealistic ab cover, although my rating is a reflection of my disappointment. It's just that it isn't that good. I definitely didn't hate it. There's enough humor to keep me reading long after I'd given up on the plot keeping me engaged. It has so much I should love - unique paranormal plot, lots of action with bloody knife fights, some romance - but I was turned off by the insta-love/lust and the need for several more pages of character development between battles. Will I read more of this series? Maybe, but not soon.
First lines: Capital City of Atlantis, Present Day
Conlan waved a hand in front of the portal and briefly wondered whether its magic would even recognize a warrior who hadn't passed through its gateway for more than seven years.
Seven years, three weeks, and eleven days, to be precise.
3 1/2 stars rounded up, of course. "Atlantis Rising" is a paranormal urban fantasy romance with lots of beasties running around - Atlanteans, obviously, as well as vampires, werebeasts, and the occasional god or goddess.
The story isn't necessarily new or unique, but it's told well, and the characters are interesting, particularly the acerbic priest Alaric, and the mysterious second-in-command vampire general Draco. I read this book in a little under a day, as it quickly pulled me in to the storyline and the characters. Oftentimes I start a series and never get around to finishing - this one I will complete.
It was like the BBD with Atlantis thrown in. Hot immortals fighting for the humans and finding their soul mates..mmm herd that before. The story was interesting with the Atlantis and Poseidon's trident myth's being told. The writer knows how to use a thesaurus, which added more depth to the story. It was a bit more PNR than I enjoy reading. I like the love, but I love the story. SO, I will read the second one some day, but no rush.
I was lucky enough to win this autographed hard copy version from the author some time a year a goo, and I finally decided to give the series a go. I really enjoyed this 1st book and the exciting characters and the amazing world. It has great potential and I look forward to the next book.
