I used to love Initial D., the cars, and the racing this is indeed a true shonen manga.

However, I reached a point where I could live without it and I've always found the translation iffy. So this is going to the Culling.

When I finished the second volume of Initial D I said it would probably be a while before I retuned to the series…little did I know it would be almost 3 years to the day.

Yes, after quite some time away from Tak and his Toyota AE86, and after re-familiarizing myself with the story and how manga reads (seriously forgot the opposite direction after so long and so many American comics), I’m back and left feeling pretty much exactly how I felt when I finished volume 2.

I definitely didn’t love this entry, nor do I love this series, but I do like it…for the most part. The art is good, the basic plot is decent, and I do like Tak and the rest of his friends, it’s just that this entire series moves so damn slow. Whether it’s the overall storytelling or the way manga itself is told (I still haven’t read much), it’s glacial and repetitive. 3 volumes in and the story is still in the same town, the characters are still doing the same thing, and while the tail end of this volume finally has some new elements, the progression is non existent. I’m not being facetious when I think one part of this volume was over 100 pages long of 3 of the Cars taking the same turns down the mountain over and over again.

I know this series is immensely popular and it’s not terrible but lord, it better get moving soon cuz even though I moderately enjoy it, I can see myself burning out pretty quick if things stay this way much longer.

KU manga

The funny thing is the entire series is on KU. It's one I could read all the way through but not one I want to. The racing is there but the hype remains the same and the racing itself feels a bit repetitive. Seems like it's going into fodder territory where everyone wants a piece of Tak. I'm still going to read the next one. Cliffies.

Initial D Vol.3 is a Graphic Novel by Shuichi Shigeno. It Starts off where the Previous book left off, in Vol 2. Takumi gets ready to face off against Takeshi Nakazato, and his Nissan R32 GTR. It continues with Takumi racing against Takeshi, and Ryosuke Takahashi, and Keskei Takahashi following them, learning how they race. and how Takumi chases behind Takeshi, drifting around corners, while Takeshi uses the traditional racing gripping technique. Then in the middle of the race, Takeshi's tires start to lose grip, and Takumi uses this advantage to pass him when Takeshi spins out in the middle of a corner. The story continues to go on the next few days, where Iketani, was going on Mt. Akina, and racing, when Shingo Shoji, of the Myogi Night Kids, hits the back of his car, in an attempt to crash him, but Iketani gains control and stays on the road. Shingo then stops Iketani and tells him that he wants to challenge Takumi to a Duch tape Death Match, where both drivers tape one hand to the steering wheel, and can only steer so far. And then the story passes to the start of the battle, and it then ends. This book was great, and it had lots of twists, drama, was well written, with lots of action, and a great story. I would recommend this book to people love action books and mangas.

The series finally soar. I like this one a lot. It's intense and informative. I like Tak and Iggy's friendship. I like how Tak is so chill while driving and everyone around him freak out because he's so skilled that ordinary cars becomes extraordinary with his driving. I love that he understands the cars he'd driven and know their strengths to use them wisely. I deducted a star because there are boring parts and the relationship part is still lacking. But, overall, an exciting read.🏁

The pros: we established Tak is just really skilled, new villain for the next volume is crazy, Iggy got a car.

Cons: We’re still doing the same hill, they need to move to a new place, they make fun of nerds and geeks even though they’re calling the cars by their code names, WHO ELSE IS IN THE SPEED STARS THIS GROUP SUCKS, Tak is leagues above his crew so what’s the point of seeing anyone else race?

The cons are starting to show with the series ._.

All the characters goofy expressions crack me up. I’m glad Iggy got a slow car by his own mistake. It’s better to learn driving before trying to be a racer. Interesting to see what changes the anime made.

The character art is improving, little by little. There are no women or girls in this volume to demean or objectify, so there is that… Oh, and Shingo needs to drive off of a cliff! Fingers crossed that he does just that in volume four…

this book is about tak known as takumi. he lives in the world of street racing, and races in akina mountain. he gains his reputation by beating everyone in the mountain, trying to achieve his goal in street racing.
i would connect this book to text to world. because many people try to gain rep by doing whatever it takes. like tak with racing. such as fighting, wrestling, sports. etc.
i would give this book 5 stars because it shows racing which is a book i love in this kind of topic, also it is a graphic novel another favorite.

It was funny when Iggy got a car and it was a 85 and not a 86 and can't wait until the race Tak have with Shingo Shoji and it was good when Tak beat Zack in a race
