This is where it starts getting tricky. Things started heating up so I read 8 to 11 in quick succession. They've kinda blurred into one for me. Tak finds out the truth about Natalie, probably from a pissed off wife and takes on a race with the evo he initially turned down, only to blow the engine, exactly what Bunta was waiting for. I didn't feel any sympathy for Natalie when he snapped at her. Cheating. Nope. There had to be something to throw Tak off his game though for the story to progress. I like that the racers didn't have the match as valid and still showed their support. It felt like the only one that understood his temperament was Ry, even Iggy was blind to the truth. I might actually see this one through to the end. The long recaps at the beginning help.

A jump in plot here having come from vol3, reading the prelude seems as though I am missing a lot but these volumes are still packed with awesome downhill action!
This one had a little bit of gossip and teen angst in it. Adds a little complexity to an otherwise pretty bland protagonist and even contributes to a series deep theme that emotional and reckless driving doesn’t make you cool but rather puts everyone on the road in danger. My love for Initial D grows!!!
Easily the best volume in a while if not so far. The romance aspect caught me for a loop and the conclusion or climax we get here of it was sad. Tak loses his first race and he loses horrible. For some reason they made us feel like he was going to kill himself which was dark. The eight six currently is no more and he is at rock bottom. This volume had it all.
