So after I compulsively joined this website I remembered that I barely have any time to read, and most of my time is spent reading this textbook. BUT, as far as nursing textbooks go, its actually pretty good, especially for a conservative nursing school in the deep South. The writers have chosen to present information in a way that is non-pathologizing of the birth process, and they state this commitment throughout the text. Also, little things like always referring to the laboring woman's "certified nurse midwife or physician" in that order (of course, no mention of lay or granny midwives, but I'll take what I can get). I can imagine this being a good supplementary text for doulas, particularly to get background on anatomy and physiology.

OK, so I've read this one because this is what I was studying this past semester in school. Maybe over the summer break I'll be a little more ambitious and read something that's NOT required.
