Holy Shit! Yes, I really did say that. I can't say that word on Amazon (even though they rank my reviews high, if I swear I get one of their form letters telling me I've been a bad girl), but it lets me say it here, and those were the first words out of my mouth at around the 70% mark in the book. I'm reading, have read, and am about to re-read an Advanced Reading Copy of this book. Oh, I guess you want the review now? Sigh...patience, I'm getting to it.

I've read the entire (or almost) Linear Tactical Series now (I think I missed one but I promise, Janie Crouch, I will get to it soon. I've never read a series in order in my life, so of course Ghost came first, and all the rest followed. I've been nicely entertained by each book. Each one contained romance, some angst, a little drama, but mostly very good writing centered around the book's central characters. Crouch makes it her business to put together a good strong plot (I'm assuming she outlines, but that may not be the case) and works the other characters and action around it. Redwood was absolutely no different. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is my favorite of the Linear Tactical books.

I like a lot of different genres, and dislike only a couple of tropes that are popular (especially the billionaire crap and the BDSM wannabes). Ms. Crouch doesn't NEED to follow along behind that type of writing, because what she's doing is taking ordinary men and women, some ex military, some not, and putting them together in situations that are down to earth. No one is mystical (a la Nora Roberts), no one needs half the book describing the firepower. But what her readers need? She gives them in spades.

In this book, Gavin and Lexi led the way right into my heart before I was even a third through it. Honestly that really isn't like me. I have my favorite authors (who know I'll rake them over the coals if they don't create and perform 110%). Then I have my extra favorite authors. Those are the ones that only have to post a pre-order once and I'll keep clicking on it until the book comes out. I've already pre-ordered Redwood at least six times from Amazon, lol. I also never ever give out spoilers.

Lexi is running, and the reader will find out who from in due time. Gavin is acting Sheriff, somewhat suspicious, always honest and will always stand up for his friends. Is Lexi his friend? Maybe not at first, since she does something that makes him investigate her. But in the end, he's the friend that stands between her and the bad guys. He's the one who loves her more than he thought possible, more than LEXI thought possible.

If you want to read a well written book without a lot of folderol and fantasy, this is it. I can imagine that a lot of readers will fall in love with them, just as I did. I mourned the ending of the book, but loved it just the same. Ms. Crouch, I suggest instead of taking a bow, you put your fingers in gear, head into your writing cave and write more ... and more. Because your readers love your books!

So, I’m not sure when or why I put Redwood, book #11 in Crouch’s Tactical Series on my Kindle, but I discovered it today and decided to give it a go.

I’m glad I did.

It was an easy read and I enjoyed elements of the story (those elements being small-town romance and rugged alphas), but this book definitely had some issues.

For starters, it reminded me of the off-brand version of Tessa Layne’s and Devney Perry’s books.

description

Redwood featured a famous heroine who moved to the boonies so she could hide from her past. She harbors secrets and lots of contour kits.

Yes, that’s right – the famous actress is able to hide her identity from the townspeople of Oak Ridge by using some hair dye and overly applying her makeup.

…………………………………

description

I do not know why so many authors attempt the story line of a famous heroine hiding in plain sight thanks to a suitcase of makeup. It just seems implausible to me to believe that someone SUPER famous could fool EVERYONE in a town with "contour".

Apparently, Lexi, our heroine, was quite talented with stage makeup, but unless she was going for a drastic change like this:

description

I just don't think she could fool everyone for so long. And since Gavin, Lexi’s love interest, finds her SOOOO sexy, I doubt this was the makeover look she was sporting in Oak Ridge.

Anyway, putting aside my issue with hidden identity plots, I found the rest of the story a little spotty.

For example, toward the beginning of the book, the town of Oak Ridge is celebrating Thanksgiving, but apparently, there was a psychopath on the loose who kidnapped two people on said holiday.

But this was just casually mentioned as an aside in conversation. There was no follow up or details about said kidnapping in the rest of the book.

Ummmm.....

description

Why not elaborate on that major event?

Adding to my overall confusion, were the inclusion of 852 side characters. This book is supposed to be a standalone (or at least the others in the series are standalones), but the references to past characters without a whole lot of backstory for any of them made the book hard to follow.

Overall, I feel like this book wasn’t great (or good) BUT, it held my attention enough for me to give it almost 3 stars.

I'm not a fan of the hidden identity/on the run plots. Too much lying/evasion/subterfuge going on for my taste. Lexi had her reasons for hiding her true identity and was genuinely scared for her life if anyone found out. Depending on others got her in this position to begin with and she is determined to find her own way out.

Lexi finds herself stranded in a small town in Wyoming. There is a job waiting for her some miles down the road, but for now she is stuck until a handsome cowboy rescues her from a bad situation and she takes advantage of him.

Gavin Zimmerman is a former special-forces soldier who has the protector gene in his DNA. He is currently the temporary sheriff of Oak Creek and on his way home when he rescues a beautiful, blonde damsel in destress and ends up with a lighter wallet for his trouble.

What bad luck for Lexi when Gavin walks into the bar where she is the new manager. Awkward. Lexi promises to make amends, but Gavin is watching, and Lexi is praying her fake ID can hold up to his inspection, especially when he is determined to uncover what she is hiding from.

Oh, my goodness, I loved, loved, loved Sheriff Gavin Zimmerman. I've waited for Redwood's story through several books, and this one certainly delivers. While the mystery and action were certainly satisfying, the relationship journey is what made this book so compelling to me.

Lexi Johnson is a woman who'd made some stupid mistakes and didn't think she deserved to be loved. But rock-solid, strong and steady Gavin made her feel safe enough to fall in love. My favorite, absolutely squishy romantic part was that she could finally fall asleep when he held her and talked to her (her insomnia issues are related to past trauma, and were dealt with realistically).

Oak Creek is a place for second chances, forgiveness and happily-ever-afters. REDWOOD delivers.

Redwood continues the Linear Tactical series with the story of Gavin "Redwood" and Lexi, aka Alexandra Adams. Lexi is on the run from her former life, previous mistakes, and a stalker. But, she is the girl who cried wolf so no one in law enforcement is willing to help. She shows up in Oak Creek with next to nothing and Gavin is suspicious.

Even though Lexi has made mistakes (and caused harm to others because of her choices), I didn't dislike her. She is aware of how badly she messed up and is trying to build a life-not the fancy life she had, but a normal, hardworking life. Gavin has always been skeptical of newcomers and he is very skeptical of Lexi. However, they have chemistry and Gavin is torn between investigating her and sleeping with her.

There is the unknown threat that hangs over the story that keeps you in anticipation. Lexi has done a lot to hide her identity from her stalker, but with as much digging as Gavin does, she knows her time could wear out at any moment. In addition, there is the push/pull tension between Lexi and Gavin that draws readers in. Redwood will cause you to lose sleep for sure! Once I was sucked in, I didn't want to put the book down!See full review on The Book Disciple

Injustice

The Linear Tactical series is well-written and while the action is wayyy over the top, stretching the suspension of disbelief to the limits, the characters usually make for fun reads.

In this latest installment, though, Gavin is not a sympathetic character. I was a child when I saw the footage of Rodney King being beaten nearly to death by LAPD officers and am cognizant that there is little justice in criminal justice. Thus, it’s hard to read about, much less like, the small town acting sheriff who takes sadistic pleasure in hurting women for his own personal enjoyment. As an adult, I did research on differential sentencing and Ms. Crouch’s fmcs who end up on the wrong side of the law are woefully mistreated. Consequently, it’s highly challenging that Ms. Crouch puts her fmcs in situations where they are trying to rebuild their lives, yet writes the Linear Tactical men as casually and deliberately abusing them, never taking “no” for an answer.

Gavin, the titular “Redwood”, uses his position as acting sheriff to harass women who are already in difficult circumstances trying to piece their lives back together - circumstances where they are the victim of serious crimes and would otherwise need law enforcement intervention, if the cop in charge weren’t a terrible person. First, he went after Quinn, then, in this book, abuses his position to stalk Lexi. The vast majority of the book is spent exploring Gavin’s perspective justifying the multitude of inappropriate and unprofessional ways that he treats Lexi. At no point does Ms. Couch have the insight to realize that Gavin is behaving like a criminal. He runs a background check on Lexi, then he searches her home without a warrant, then steals from her house to run her fingerprints, then has professional hackers dismantle her life in order to run her to ground. It’s hard to root for an mmc who is a hypocrite.

It was, however, nice to have Zac and Annie reappear.

Another emotionally charged love story that I could not put down! Lexi Johnson has endured a lot in the past 18 months. She just wanted a place to lay low and have a little bit of peace. She thought she may have a chance in Oak Creek, but before she even steps foot in the town bad luck follows her. She was desperate and had to resort to desperate measures and unfortunately when an opportunity came her way it had to be against uber protector, temporary sheriff, Gavin Zimmerman.

When they meet again, Gavin still felt that instant attraction to Lexi but now his suspicions of her are high and his actions towards her were not the greatest. But the more he watches her, the protector side of him emerges once again. And as difficult as it is for him, he does learn he needs to tamp down that side of him that wants to solve all her problems, even not knowing what or who she is hiding from. But danger is coming for her and Gavin and everyone in Oak Creek will do anything to keep one of their own safe.

Once again, we have an action packed, suspense filled love story. Many scenes had tears rolling down my face. Lexi has made mistakes and she has atoned for them but she still has so much guilt and will not allow herself the second chance she so deserves. The people from Oak Creek and Gavin especially show her how much she is loved. Another fantastic addition to one of my favorite series. A 5-star must read!

REDWOOD is the eleventh instalment in Janie Crouch’s contemporary, adult LINEAR TACTICAL erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for Linear Tactical. This is former Special Forces soldier Gavin Zimmerman, and waitress Lexi Johnson’s story line. REDWOOD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Some of the events of REDWOOD cross over with, and run parallel to the events of book nine BABY, and book ten STORM, as well as the author’s BREE AND TANNER thriller series.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Gavin and Lexi) REDWOOD follows the building but acrimonious relationship between former Special Forces soldier Gavin Zimmerman, and waitress Lexi Johnson. Lexi Johnson’s arrival in Oak Creek, Wyoming stirs the interest of the men who work for Linear Tactical but none more so than our hero Gavin Zimmerman. Something is wrong; Lexi is obviously in hiding in the small town of Oak Creek, and Gavin is determined to uncover the truth about the woman that is calling to his heart. As Gavin struggles to gather information about Lexi Johnson, Lexi battles between head and heart knowing if and when her secrets are revealed, she will find herself on the run, once again. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Lexi and Gavin, and the potential fall-out when the truth is revealed, and Lexi’s past demands everything and more.

Lexi Johnson has a stalker, and in this the police are reluctant to move forward, aware that our heroine’s past leaves questions of believability and truth.

The relationship between Lexi and Gavin is tempestuous at best. Gavin is desperate to uncover the truth, and in doing so pushes Lexi one too many times, and in the end, our heroine is forced to confront her past, placing herself in the direct line of fire. Gavin struggles with Lexi’s secrets and lies, and when the truth is revealed, our hero reveals a different attitude that directly affects our Lexi going forward. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters, most of whom we met in the previous instalments. As the team at Linear Tactical head to the islands for Zac and Annie’s wedding (Cyclone #1), Lexi remains behind until a few words of advice push our heroine to go for the man that she loves.

REDWOOD is a story of secrets and lies; betrayal and revenge; family, relationships, power and abuse. The premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive and passionate ; the characters are broken, energetic and dynamic.

I found with this book I really liked Lexi, she is a different person in so many ways that the one we have seen before. She learned from her past mistakes and just wants to live her life and feel safe. It's the thing that is illusive for her right now. I hated the choice that she felt she had to make when she first met Gavin, can also see why she had no trust of people to ask for help.

Even as I knew Lexi was trying to hide, I liked the chemistry she had with Gavin. I hated that it took him so long to just let her be, to not be so cynical of her. Once he let go of that they had a blissful time.

I loved that Mac gave Lexi a safe place. His casual acceptance of her went a long way to start Lexi feeling safe. I loved how Lexi took to the bar and did what she could to mother hen Mac. You could tell that these two were building a family type relationship, one both of them needed.

The last part of the book made me mad, I was furious at Gavin for how he treated Lexi, that he didn't let her talk at all, just jumped to conclusions. Was steaming made that a horrible part of Lexi's past came back at her and found a way to hurt her and did so in a way that she had to betray people that had been kind her, people that had let her start to build a home. Thank goodness Gavin got his head out of his ass and started to do something because by that point Lexi needed his brand of help.

One word can sum up this story - AMAZING!!!

I'm not sure why I'm always surprised that with every book that comes out in this series I love it from start to finish. I stayed up waaay past my bed time to finish this one. Lexi and Gavin have truly become one of my favorite couples. This story has just the right amount of mystery, secrets and let's not forget to mention the sizzling hot chemistry that will have you rooted to your seat and NOT wanting it to end. This was simply a beautiful story (even with a few bumps on the road) about a woman deserving the second chance she got!

I've said this once, twice and not sure how many times already and I'll say it - THIS IS MY FAVORITE series I've read so far!!

Omg this book is soooo booooring. I’m at like 39% right now and I am ‘bout done! So slow moving. I don’t even care about these characters enough to read any more. Plus I didn’t realize it was 11 in the series, bad place to start because there are soooo many characters from previous books, I can’t keep them all straight. This is in NO WAY a stand alone. Barf. Snore. I’d rate it lower than one star if I could.

(4.5) I have never *not liked* a Janie Crouch book. When I started this, (first chapter) it was the first book I thought, oh no, because I just didn't want to give Lexi a chance, yes the owness is on me. I didn't like her at first meet, and wanted to walk away. Janie has never steered me wrong and I quickly fell for Lexi's inner strength, her snark, her compassion. Gavin was always my stalwart beacon of light in the previous books and here I met his flaws. We all know that no one is perfect. The interconnecting with a few of the other books and series (same time line) was awesome. This can be read as a stand alone. IF you do, I guarantee you will want to find the other books, learn more about Dorian (aka Ghost) and the rest. Linear Tactile series has hit on a lot of issues, and has handled them all with grace, passion, steam and love. Lexis story is contemporary *cry wolf* and Gavins old big Redwood learning to blow with the breeze. This had moments of laugh out loud, tears, heart break, anger and best of all, HEA with love. Thank you Janie for the arc, for the opportunity to be taken to another world, and the joy your writing brings. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

Lexi’s running from secrets that could crush her, but will Redwood be strong enough to help shoulder the burden? Wow. That’s about the only word I have left after that book. Just wow. I have wanted Gavin’s story almost since the beginning of this series, and it was worth every minute of the wait. Nothing is quite what it appears to be in this book. I was kept guessing from the very beginning to the end. Since Lexi nearly had me in tears before I got to that end, take note and beware of the emotional roller-coaster. I’m not sure yet what the author has on the horizon for us after this, but I know for certain that I want to read it as soon as it’s available.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

Good lord!! I devoured this story, just when I think the Linear Tactical series couldn’t get any better, the author goes and betters it.⁣

Although Redwood is part of the Linear Tactical series, this book can be read as a stand-alone, the author does a great job of any or all back stories, the whole team is included in this one but you feel like you know them already just by the writing style (if you read this one, I reckon you may go back and start at the beginning, as each character is easily likeable and intriguing)⁣

I adored Gavin and Lexi’s story. Gavin is a cranky gruff over protective sheriff, he is ex special forces and works alongside his friends at Linear Tactical, his code name Redwood, he’s solid, stands firm whatever the condition...until he meets Lexi, their first meeting was brilliant, the second meeting was even better, I laughed out loud and cringed at the same time. Lexi is hiding secrets, she has no one she can trust, falling for Gavin will just lead to heartbreak or will it...⁣

I love the camaraderie in this series, the way the suspense builds throughout the story keeps you turning the pages, the romance teases you until boiling point.⁣
I adored the little glimpses of characters from future books and the authors new upcoming series Zodiac Tactical.⁣
This book had everything and more.! Must read romance ❤️⁣

This author is one of the best at romantic suspense/military romantic suspense, I highly recommend this book.⁣

Redwood, book 11 of the Linear Tactical Series is available January 12th, pre-order now.⁣

Redwood is the eleventh book set within the Linear Tactical series. This is a series of interconnected stand alone romances. Lexi moves to the small town of Oak Creek as her last chance to start over, but she realizes quickly that might not be as easy as she hoped. Gavin, acting sheriff and protector of his small town and the people he loves, can’t help but need to know all of her secrets. But he also realizes he’ll have to accept her secrets for her to accept his heart. When her life is in danger and her secrets come out, will Gavin still trust Lexi and want to be in her future?

Oh. My. Goodness! This book had everything and I really didn’t want to put the book down! Gavin and Lexi had my heart pumping, I was on the edge of my seat as we learned her secrets slowly, and I couldn’t help but cheer for them to find happiness and trust as they both lost their hearts to each other. Lexi, oh sweet Lexi. She was so strong, courageous, even when she was terrified. I adored watching her open up to Gavin, to slowly show her trust, and I loved her debate over wanting to buy a winter appropriate coat, and what that meant for her. Gavin was oh so growly, yet overly protective of everyone he loved, and I loved how that included Lexi, even when he didn’t want to. He was fierce, loyal, steadfast, and still slightly scarred emotionally from his past relationship. I loved them together. There’s a slight push and pull, but that all revolves around trust. Their connection is so strong, though! I cried a lot during this book, just feeling my heart hurt for both main characters, but also for some happy tears towards the end! I loved seeing many of the characters from previous books, but I don’t think anyone would feel lost. These stories weave so flawlessly between each other’s books, that I feel so invested in this series! I loved Lexi and Gavin. I love their love!

Janie Crouch writes captivating second chance romances with the best suspense mystery twists that leaves your heart filled with love, contentment, and yearning for more. Gavin Zimmerman and Lexi Johnson’s story was no different and left me with a book hangover and desperately wanting more of them! Don’t worry I won’t spill the beans on this book so do yourself a favor and one click now so you can read this book for yourself. Redwood made me laugh, cry, sit on the edge of my seat, broke my heart at times, and made me a little hot and bothered with the heated passion between the two love birds.

This book not only tells the story of Gavin and Lexi, and how they come together, but it also creates a great timeline and summary of events that have happened recently in the Oak Creek. For me, its always helpful that she does this since I don’t always have the chance to read the previous books to refresh my memory right before the book comes out. I also love how Janie has tied her books together in some creative way and how her characters happen to crossover into them. Crossovers are my favorite and I love how characters in a series appear in later books. Some of my favorite parts of this book are from characters from other books in the series.

As always I was sucked into the world of Oak Creek with the handsome alpha men of Linear Tactical and their independent and high spirited women. Redwood can be read as a standalone, but to fully get captivated by Oak Creek and its lovely members, I highly encourage you to read the whole series starting with Cyclone with Zac Mackay and Anne Griffin. I highly recommend the Linear Tactical series and all the books written by the author. There is so much to be excited for in the year to come for the Linear Tactical and Zodiac Tactical world!! Can’t wait for the other books to come out!

Redwood by Janie Crouch
Linear Tactical #11

A woman on the run with secrets
Afraid anxious insomniac
Can she rest and relax in Oak Creek?

A man with who doesn’t like secrets
Protector who sees in black and white with no shades of gray
Can he let the woman keep her secrets?

Who is she running from?
Why should he care?
Can they trust one another with secrets not revealed?

What I liked:
* Lexi: strong enough to overcome what happened in her past but still in need of a shoulder to lean on. She deserves so much more in her future than she went through in her past.
* Gavin/Redwood: a good man that has trust issues. He believes in Lexi though he has niggling doubts that could tank their relationship.
* Mac: an older supportive man that gives Lexi a place to work and regroup in her time of need
* The supporting characters…good group in Oak Creek – eager to return soon to see how they are doing
* That the bad guys were eventually uncovered and dealt with…at least most of them
* The ending…it was good to see Lexi relaxed and happy and in a supportive loving relationship

What I didn’t like
* The bad guys…they deserved much worse than what they were dealt
* Having to say goodbye to the group and have to wait for the next book in the series

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series/by this author? Definitely

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Amazing story about second chances, growing as a person, learning to trust, daring to risk your heart for love. This story swept me off my feet; the emotions were intense, the connection and chemistry between Gavin and Lexi were potent and palpable, the secrets they kept from each other bringing suspense to their relationship.
I have liked Gavin since he for the first time showed up with the Linear Tactical series. He is a man of law and order, organization, and straightforwardness, rough around the edges, a person who doesn't trust easily. It is pure karma that the person he falls for is the one with the most secrets to hold.
Lexi had a lot of redemption and forgiveness to earn from her previous appearance with Linear Tactical guys, yet I had no ill feelings towards her. The way she was presented, it was natural for me to feel sympathy towards her and be on the team Lexi from the start.
Redwood runs parallel to the past stories from the LT series yet they are so brilliantly entwined within each other, giving a fresh point of view to the events, that I was mesmerized and hooked throughout the tale. I loved that the LT team with their spouses were present and witnessing the happenings of the developing relationship, and there to support them when things go astray.
I loved how this story pulled me and my mind and feelings into the tale of danger and romance so completely that I forgot the world around me. I devoured the tale at once, I could not put it down and didn't want to leave Oak Creek once it came to the end. If you love romance novels with deep feels, beautiful, meaningful love scenes, a love story that is spiced up with a touch of danger and suspense you are going to adore the Redwood and the Linear Tactical series, I myself, am enamored.

This is an amazing story of second chances, the beauty of redemption and how family isn’t always bonded by blood, but by friendship & brotherhood.

Janie Crouch hits a home run with this steamy, twisted tale of a former convicted criminal who falls hard for an upstanding man of the law. Gavin “Redwood” Zimmerman has been the acting sheriff for Oak Creek for some time and he’ll do anything to protect the town & it’s citizens - including runoff the pretty green eyed pickpocket turned waitress that just waltzed into town. But Lexi’s life is in ruins - she has nowhere else to go and she’s determined to start a new life in Oak Creek. A life far different than the glitz and glamour of Hollywood that led her astray on a dark & self destructive path.

Can a man who sees everything in black & white learn to love and accept a woman whose past is filled with gray areas? Can Gavin, a man who lives for the truth, fully love Lexi, a woman whose past is buried with secrets? Can Lexi open her heart to love & reveal the truth about her past? And if she does, will Gavin “Redwood” Zimmerman recognize that the woman he’s come to love is nothing like her former self? One thing’s for sure, it will take all of Linear Tactical & a few friends to keep things on this side of angels.

Special thanks to the author for this advance copy. I have also purchased a forever copy for my collection as well.

I made the mistake of starting Redwood in the middle of a work day -- something I know better to do when I pick up a new Janie Crouch book! Janie knows how to write a book with just the right balance of suspense and romance so it's no surprise that Redwood grabbed me right from the beginning and I couldn't put it down.

Redwood is the 11th book in the Linear Tactical series. I have read the entire series, many of them more than once. Up until now, I have always said that Cyclone (Zac and Annie) and Angel (Gabe and Jordan) were my top two favorites. Now I've got a top three.

Redwood is the story of Gavin and Lexi, both of whom we know from previous books. Lexi's on the run, headed to Oak Creek to hide out, but before she gets there she has an encounter with Gavin which leaves him with less than flattering opinion of her. Gavin's suspicious by nature, and he's also overprotective of his town, family, and friends so when Lexi shows up as the manager of the local bar, all of his worst instincts shift into high gear.

The two met prior to some of the previous books and Redwood moves us through the events that took place in those books, which was neat. I liked seeing and understanding some of these things from Lexi and especially Gavin's point of view.

Gavin made me mad a lot in this book. He has a lot to learn about trust and how to deal with his feelings. He turned it around, though, as the LT men usually do -- with the help of their friends. Lexi comes to Oak Creek a changed person but one who still has her secrets, which of course Gavin with his well-honed instincts realizes from the start.

Janie usually does a great job with setting scenes and description but the whiteout scene -- wow!
It made me feel like I was right there with them, and I've never been in such a situation before!

I could go on and on about everything I liked about Redwood but I don't want to spoil it for anyone so just trust me -- this was a five star read and totally worth your time!

She's trouble, but is she in trouble too?

Lexi lives in fear, fear she will be found, fear someone will recognise her, fear they won't believe her, fear they too will hate her and now fear she will lose Gavin when he knows about her past. She is a nervous wreck, still suffering from the abuse she suffered and is totally alone, unsure who she can trust...your heart breaks for her, knowing most of her fears are true and will unfortunately happen. And you just know in your heart, even before he does, that Redwood is going to be a dumbass, because he is a man, because he is very black and white in his views and because as amazing as the Linear Tactical guys are, they don't do or understand emotion easily. So you know that at some point he is going to mess up with Lexi in a big way making you want to punch him rather than kiss him! Will Lexi be strong enough to forgive him?
Once again Linear Tactical realise just how twisted real life can be, this book overlaps a number of other books in the series and it is great to have flashbacks to events that also happen in other books, but see them from a different viewpoint. I loved Lexi and Gavin together but I also loved Wavy and hearing her kick Gavin's ass, I am really hoping we get to see her HEA at some point in the future.
The rest of this series are available on Kindle Unlimited, but this book isn't...it obviously didn't stop me buying it and reading it but it did leave me a little confused why?

Gavin (Redwood) Deserved A More Powerful Story

Let me begin by stating, I LOVE the Linear Tactical Series and all the primary and secondary characters involved in each installment. That being said, I SO looked forward to Gavin’s HEA tale. After completing the book I had very mixed emotions about what I just read. Ms. Crouch penned a great beginning to this story. I was all in with the first couple of chapters. The storyline was good but the unfolding of the story was just... okay. I question why Lexi had to guard her secrets for SO LONG! Even when Gavin expressed his sincere desire to help Lexi, she did not open up to him. Also, for such an alpha male accustomed to coming to the aid of others without hesitation, he doesn’t push Lexi to divulge information that he knows is hurting her emotionally and could possibly be putting her in harms way. Not realistic.

The story needed a little more angst and suspense too. Once the action ensued it unraveled way too fast. The scenes would have lended themselves to more edge of your seat type moments, which Ms. Crouch is very capable of writing.

Lexi was in some ways a very strong character, self sacrificing and a survivor and yet equally also a woman with a victim mentality. I would have liked to see her make better choices to resolve her issues.

I would have to sum it up by saying this was a good read but not great...... thus the three stars. It had its moments just not enough of them. If you have read the previous installments in this series and enjoyed them, I know you’ll want to read this one too. I don’t regret reading this story because Gavin was always one of my favorite characters. I just wanted a stronger story with more “feels,” more action, and simply more raw emotion.

I liked this book. Lexi irritared me with her attitude and her secrets, the fact that she didn't tell him when she had so many opportunities, it would be hard but it would be diferent than him finding out the way he did. I understood where she was coming from, I really did, but all the secrets were too much and he let it slide for more time than any other person would, and that pissed me off. Gavin was so sweet with her and relentless too but I understood where I was coming from, trying to protect the people he care about while also fighting with his heart and himself, that wasn't easy. They were a good couple and I really did feel bad for her because she had everything against her but Gavin did her good

Talk about first impressions! Lexi had no where to go but up with the impression she left Gavin with.
Gavin was a suspicious person to begin with and Lexi continued to leave him with so many questions no wonder he was very leery of her. She had a problem with trusting people so would not share her problems or concerns with anyone. She kept so many secrets that you just knew they would come back to bite her. Poor Lexi had a lot of issues and they all seemed to turn into major complications. In the end all she really wanted to do was have a new beginning and start over; just a second chance.

This story was heart wrenching. There were a few tears for the anguish going on in the story. Lexi had a few opportunities to come clean with Gavin and I just wanted to pull the words out of her mouth but no she keeps silent. The ending was absolutely fantastic. This is one story that I will be rereading in the near future. If I could have given Redwood more than five stars I would have. Way to go Janie!! The men of Linear Tactical are great alpha characters and fall for strong courageous women. I look forward to the next story in this wonderful series.
I received a copy of this book as a gift from the author and this is my honest review.

Redwood grabbed me from the first page and didn't let go until I reached the end. I should be used to it by now because each Linear Tactical book is better than the previous one. I have to be careful when I start reading because these books are impossible to put down, and this one was no exception.

Lexi is at the end of her rope when she stumbles into the bar in Reddington City. On the run from her past and a stalker, she has a flat tire and no money for a new one. Her only hope is to find a mark and liberate the cash needed to continue her journey. I was immediately caught up in her efforts, her self-loathing, and her desperation. There were three possibilities in that bar, one of whom she immediately ruled out. The warrior with the intense gaze would do her no good. But when she can't carry through on her plan, she ends up at the mercy of a drunken lech, and it's the warrior who comes to her rescue. It's a sweet scene when he comforts her, and she repays him by stealing his wallet and disappearing. Thanks to him, she makes it to the job waiting for her in Oak Creek.

Back home, Gavin joins his friend Zac for a drink, still bent out of shape at the way he was fleeced by a pair of pretty green eyes. He couldn't believe he'd been that trusting. He's furious and suspicious when he discovers that the little thief is the new waitress at the Eagle's Nest. His instincts tell him she's trouble and that she has secrets that could affect his friends.

I've liked Gavin in previous books, where his steadfastness and honesty are essential. He does get a little intense in his protectiveness of those he cares for, which has created some awkward situations in the past. However, those are nothing compared to his focus on Lexie. Competing with his suspicion is an intense attraction that he can't deny or fight. Gavin struggles to keep both his suspicion and his protectiveness under control, hoping to earn her trust.

I loved Lexi. She is much stronger than she thinks she is. She made mistakes in her past, which endangered other people, and she can't forgive herself. She also survived things that would have left a weaker woman a physical and emotional mess. I loved watching her make a place for herself in Oak Creek, even though she constantly looked over her shoulder, expecting the worst.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between Gavin and Lexi. Gavin spends a month watching her every move but is oblivious to the bigger picture until Zac points out that she doesn't do anything except work. Things begin to change between them when Gavin comes to Lexi's rescue after she collapses from exhaustion. There's still a lot of push and pull between them as Gavin continues his quest for answers and Lexi shores up her walls against her desire to trust him. The sparks continue to build until even a blizzard can't contain them, kicking off a new level in their relationship.

I liked seeing Gavin make a conscious effort not to push Lexi for answers she isn't ready to give. It's easy to see that she begins to trust him because she's comfortable enough that little bits of information slip out. There is a fantastic scene where Gavin takes Lexi to his family's home on Christmas. I loved seeing Lexi hold her own against Gavin's ex, letting a little bit of the real Lexi out to play. Things take a bad turn though, when Lexi panics at the arrival of some photographers. I ached for Gavin, whose suspicions were riled up again, and for Lexi, who was sure she screwed everything up. A conversation with Anne helped Lexi let go of a little of her fear, and Gavin's continued suppression of his curiosity made a huge difference.

I loved seeing the change in Lexi, thanks to Gavin's care and attention. For the first time in years, she's happy, and when she realizes that, the guilt hits her hard. She still doesn't believe she deserves to be happy. Then something happens that brings Lexi's fears back to the surface and driving Gavin's need to protect her through the roof. While I understood his need, I wanted to shake him for doing what he said he wouldn't. When Mac and Gavin's brother arrange for Lexi to join Gavin at Zac and Annie's wedding, no one expects what happens next. Though Lexi is in the right place at the right time to prevent a tragedy, it comes at a high cost. I wanted to hit Gavin upside the head with a two by four for being such a complete jerk. I loved his conversation with Dorian as the depth of his idiocy hit home. It got even better when Wavy called him out. But things are about to go from bad to worse.

I ached for Lexi as all of her fears about the truth came true, and she ran from Gavin's anger and disgust. She had no idea what was waiting for her when she arrived back in Wyoming. Her fears about a stalker finding her came to pass, but with a horrifying twist. I felt her terror as she faced her worst nightmare and was impressed with how she kept her head. At the same time, Gavin's contacts come up with some information that shows Lexi is in extreme danger. I loved seeing the LT people spring into action to help one of their own - and Lexi has become one of their own. I was glued to the pages through the entire confrontation and loved how it all went down. Even Ethan and Jess played a critical part! A month later, the scene at the bar was fantastic, and I adored Gavin's drink concoctions for Lexi.

Hiding in plain sight.

Lexi was on the run from a stalker no one believed was after her. She had cried "wolf" in the past which almost cost two people she knew their lives. It also cost her time in prison. Gavin, a.k.a. Redwood, knew Lexi was hiding something the first time he met her and the feeling intensified every day. Would she come clean about her secrets before it was too late?

Lexi is running on fumes when fate steps in and provides a choice to steal money from the alpha cutie at the bar or find another way to make it to Oak Creek, Wyoming and a hopeful place to hide out. However, Lexi is second guessing her terrible decision making when she not only sees the guy whose wallet she stole in her new place of work, but then learns he’s a sheriff! And there she is with a fake id, secrets she’d rather keep hidden, and a supernova attraction to someone who does not need to be involved in her life drama.

Gavin has some hang ups when it comes to newcomers in town and while he may have been previously overly suspicious and reacted...shall we say strongly? to said visitors, he feels justified looking in to Lexi because hello! He bought in to her helpless act and she basically fleeced him! Forget about the instant chemistry he felt when they first met, or the sadness lurking in her gorgeous green eyes, or the fact that all his friends love her. There’s just something about Lexi that has his biscuits in a twist...

Redwood was a wild ride of emotions and anticipation! I literally couldn’t decide which side of the Lexi/Gavin fence I was sitting on. The push and pull between these two is some of the best I’ve read! I loved how deft the secrecy and attraction between Gavin and Lexi was woven together to create a wonderfully frustrating spell that held me all the way to the end! Toss in a cast of favorite character cameos as well as new ones (I am stoked about the Zodiac series!!!) and this book is being added as another LT keeper shelf favorite!

I received an advance reader copy from the author and this is my honest review.

Sooo many plotholes and dumb errors

I just can’t with these books. I’ve resorted to highlighting all the f’in stupid mistakes and plot holes while I read this, in lieu of a review.

Good title

Good characters and a fun storyline revisiting a good community, team and group of couples. Lexi and Redwood have great chemistry and their journey to a HEA is full of secrets and misunderstandings. It was great seeing so many of the couples together and I loved seeing other aspects of their stories show up in Lexi’s timeline.
