"Heart-warming, feel-good romance." Midlife crisis? What midlife crisis? At forty-four, Cynthia Smart is exactly where she wants to be. Almost . In a couple of years, she’ll be the CEO of the company she’s spent most of her adult life working in. For now, though, she’s still busy shimmying up the greasy pole of corporate business. She’s single, carefree, and independent, and nothing can stop her getting what she wants and deserves. Until she discovers she’s pregnant. Determined to have her cake and eat it, she’s convinced that having a baby will make little difference to her life, and that she will be one of those women who can hold down an incredibly demanding job and also be a perfect mother. But as her pregnancy progresses and her life slowly falls apart, she has the sneaking suspicion that Max Oakland, the new guy on the block, is out to steal her dream job. That she’s terribly attracted to him doesn’t help, nor does the fact that he’s devilishly handsome, appears to be a really nice fella, and is good in a crisis. When she gradually comes to realise that something has got to give, what she doesn’t want it to be is her heart.

This was FUN! Liz Davies always writes such relatable stories packed with loads of humor and heart. Cynthia has the career of her dreams. At only 44 she is targeted to be CEO in the next few years that is until... *bum bum bum* A pink line on the pregnancy test. Determined not to let a minor thing like a baby change anything, Cynthia is convinced that she can have it ALL. Loved how real and relatable this was. I think we all idealize having a baby until that little bundle of joy finally arrives. It was so humorous watching Cynthia deal with her changing body as her pregnancy progressed. I really loved her as a character, I would have love to go to lunch with her and discuss her goings-on. I also loved Macs. He really was the nicest guy ever and still Cynthia was so suspicious of him trying to take her job. The relationship between these two was so great. Once again Liz Davies put a big smile on my face and hope in my heart. The perfect little afternoon Escape.

I have been a fan of Liz Davies writing. All her books have that special something that is quite unique. I always get that warm fuzzy feeling, a heartfelt story with incredibly delightful characters I love reading about, and a story that makes me laugh and as always, full of heart.
In this new book, Cynthia Smart's Midwife Crisis, we see a woman whose trajectory and path into the corporate world is a straight shot. Until, life comes along literally! A life is growing inside of her that is, which could put a damper in her career. Cynthia is not one to succumb to life's challenges. She is going to succeed no matter what. She is going to have it all.
This is a really fun story that is a quick read and super enjoyable I read it in one sitting. I highly recommend this for a fantastic summer read. Add this to your TBR!

Refreshing and entertaining chick-lit that revolved around Cynthia Smart’s unexpected pregnancy. It was about life of career woman, ambitions, life changes after pregnancy, family, loneliness, and love.
Plot was pretty simple and yet interesting. Best part of the book was Cynthia’s voice, their weekend away at Max’s eco-hotel in countryside and romance between Max and Cynthia. It was slow build and it was lovely to read their growing friendship and feelings for each other. When reason behind Max’s joining was revealed I felt Cynthia overreacted and at the same time I felt he should have told her. I also believe what Max said. It was sad to see Cynthia breaking. I couldn’t guess how they will solve their issues and accept their feelings.
Overall, Cynthia Smart’s Midwife Crisis was fun, amusing and feel good chick-lit that made laugh and giggle throughout the book. I definitely recommend this book to fans of this genre.

This book is just adorable and made me smile. It’s the perfect rom-com without any unnecessary drama.
The highlight of the story is the characters. Cynthia is fun as the main character who gets pregnant unexpectedly. At times, she got on my nerves, because I didn’t like the way she kept running away from Max. Even though I could understand her situation, it was a bit frustrating seeing her unable to trust anyone. However, she is also hilarious and cranky, and it was fun to see how she coped with the pregnancy. I loved Max! He is just the perfect male character. At times, I felt he was too perfect for words as he didn’t have any flaws. But I loved his relation with Cynthia, and their time together.
Even the supporting characters are so lovely. I loved Cynthia’s mother Maggie. They both have a beautiful mother-daughter relationship where they talk to each other like friends. Maggie is also very quirky and speaks her mind openly, which was funny at times. Sally is another adorable character who I wished was more involved in the story.
The author writes the tale in such a simple and engaging manner. Even though the story is nothing new, it feels fresh and puts a smile on your face. Also, even though Cynthia and Max are in their 40s, the author has written their characters with a touch of innocence and immaturity. Hence a person of any age group can relate to them. The pregnancy also ends in a very interesting manner that makes this book memorable.
Overall, “Cynthia Smart’s Midwife Crisis” is a breezy romantic comedy and I enjoyed it.

Honestly, I wasn't sure if I was going to be fully on board with this one at the start. I seemed as though it was simply going through the motions of what one might think pregnancy is versus the reality of it all and not having been there done that, I felt a little outside the learning curve. However, once the story line took a bigger curve than her baby bump, once a potential love twist was introduced, once her plans swerved like the tides of her mood swings, and her hormones caught up to her new found obstacles, I was back in the passenger seat and enjoying the ride. It was great to see a character wanting to take the reins on her journey, unafraid to face it head on by herself (though she did have help from some unexpected places). It was heart warming to see a male lead not shy away from the entire situation (including the actual midwife crisis!), letting love's potential guide him come what may. I laughed with them. I felt their sadness and confusion. I even felt the joy Cynthia experiences when she REALLY comes to terms with her new situation.
In the end, it was a tender journey taken by a worldly woman on a mission...who discovers that just because you CAN do it alone, doesn't mean you have to, and that some of the BEST things in life come as TOTAL SURPRISES!

You’ll know by now of my absolute excitement for everything Liz Davies, but when I saw this I was particularly excited- you know mom lit, an office environment and a baby, with a lead who’s more my age than a twenty something, what’s not to love!! And so I bunkered down and dived in!
I’ll begin by saying wow to this book. Wow. Wow. Wow!!
This is the story of 44 year old Cynthia Smart, who from the start of the book is a little bit in denial that she’s going to be a mum. We quickly see why, she’s top of her game in a job where she gets in a six thirty in the morning and is considered to be leaving early if she walks out at 5!
Everything in this book was done perfectly, the tiredness, the morning sickness, which all lead to comedy and drama, the characters, with Sally and her mum just being soooooo lovely!! And then there was Max …
They say about ingesting a book, not only did I ingest it, I savored it and hearted it too, and will be recommending it all over the place!!

What an amusing book this was. Cynthia Smart discovers she is pregnant, and that she will be a single mum in her mid 40s. She is adamant that the baby will just slot into her life, she will take two weeks maternity leave and keep working trying to get that promotion.
Well that's her thoughts at first until she discovers the realities of being pregnant aren't quite what she anticipated and throughout you can see her mind altering, and her perspective of life changing.
There is also a new colleague at work who is is instantly distrustful of, and reckons he is out to steal her promotion. But then Max shows various sides of himself that has her second guessing herself. He is a fabulous man and so so caring, I loved him a lot.
And I was eye rolling throughout at Cynthia's thoughts on all thing baby, I mean I don't have one, but I've read enough to know the reality and her guy reactions are no where near each other!! It's just a great story, and incredibly entertaining.
I managed to read this in an afternoon in one sitting in the garden, and loved ever second of it, it had my smiling and giggling, all the way to its rather eventful finale. Yet another truly enjoyable book from Liz Davies, that I thoroughly enjoyed.

A must read book
This is the first time i have read a book by this author but it certainly won't be the last. I really enjoyed reading this book about Cynthia and Max. I laughed and cried reading it and would certainly recommend this book.

Cynthia Smart has everything she ever really wanted; a life in London, a high flying job and a promotion on the horizon. What she hasn't accounted for is an accidental pregnancy and a hunky man who is after her job. Will Cynthia chose the high flying single life or decide she's more of a motherly type after all?
I am now at the point where I cannot say no to reading a Liz Davies novel and Cynthia's story did not disappoint.
I loved Cynthia and her journey from the very start. At the age of 44 she was not planning on becoming a mother and had a very definite plan for her future career. I found her navigation of pregnancy realistic and heartwarming as she begins to realise certain things but find it hard to let go of others to find the balance that her heart truly wants. There are plenty of amusing moments but a lot of tender one too. At times I could feel Cynthia's anxiety around her job and career prospects and really felt for her. Her boss was a plonker (polite way of saying it) and she really had to deal with his attitude on top of everything else.
I loved how the character of Max ditched stereotypes of men in that work environment and was so caring and kind towards Cynthia. He was such a breath of fresh air and although I could understand why she was so guarded, I really fell in love with him straight away.
Humorous and heartwarming this is a perfect uplifting novel.

A Bit Cliched But Good Hero
I'll admit that I almost put this book in the DNF pile because I was turned off by the main character and her place of work right away. All seemed too cliched. The heroine reacted in a way that seemed almost too pat and not as if it stemmed from a unique character. Her boss was hideous, and I couldn't understand why a smart woman would stay with a company that treated women so poorly. The redeeming factor of this book was the hero. It took a bit to the author to reveal his hero status, but once it was done, the man only seemed to get better and better. On the plus side, he also seemed to soften the heroine's hard edges. If you buy that the heroine is as hard as she appears at first, then it's nice to see a caring relationship bring out more human aspects. I've always believed that a truly mutually loving relationship brings out the best aspects of both partners, so I love it when I see that reflected in literature. The heroine's single-mom pregnancy journey is a bit predictable, as it is portrayed as it often is in chick lit, but again, the hero brought more interesting moments to the party. So, in the end, I feel somewhat ambivalent about this book because some was well done and other parts were simply retreading the same chick lit ground in an uninteresting way.

I read it in 24 hours I just could not put it down.
Cynthia smart is early 40's and a high flyer and has spent the last 20 years dedicated to her job in the hope that when Ricky retires she will become the CEO.
All of a sudden she finds herself pregnant after a one night stand while away for work. This is not how she was expecting her life to go her whole world has been tipped upside down she's single and pregnant and about to lose the one thing she wanted in life.
She then gets thrown into the deep end at work and ends up working with the devilishly handsome max she tries to push away her feelings for him as she has enough to deal with.I loved this book and all the characters Cynthia, max her mother Maggie and her pa Sally.
Once I started I could not put it down and laughed so many times and had a few aww moments.
This is the first time I have read this author and it won't be the last I would highly recommend this as a good read.

This book had me laughing out loud in parts, light hearted. Feel good. Heart warming. Uplifting. Beautiful.

She is/was a very career driven woman aiming to climb up the career ladder. She has plenty of decisions to make. She's torn between going it alone and not.
Cue Max entering her story as a work colleague. Dun dun dun... He is about to turn her world upside down. But surely she can't when she's pregnant with someone elses child... WELL. Lets just say this book raised my expectations of men way too high! Not possible.
The whole story is beautiful and the happy ending made this book for me. Perfection. I really enjoyed reading it. A lovely light hearted read. A well deserved four stars. Highly recommend.

Cynthia is a career woman and she would do anything to get to the top but pregnancy just changed her life.
You need to read this book if you’re interested in pregnancy stories and work life.
I laughed at Cynthia’s labour drama. It was so real and descriptive.
Max is such a character on his own. He looks so good to be true.
Cynthia’s mum is endearing too. I enjoyed her roles in the novel.

At forty four years old Cynthia Smart thought that the no show of Mother Nature was the start of menopause but it soon became apparent that she was very wrong and that actually she was pregnant!!!!
Imagine what a surprise that would be!!!!
This book was so easy to read, light hearted and incredibly funny (at times I laughed out loud)
Cynthia really was very naive about pregnancy and becoming a mum that it made it very comical.
Max is a wonderful character who is to good to be true! But the book would not have been the same without him!
A must read for a rainy afternoon!

What a great read this turned out to be I enjoyed every last word of it. They storyline was well written and flowed smoothly. I adored each of the characters starting with Cynthia, Max and definitely mom Maggie.

How an unexpected pregnancy becomes more life-changing than expected!
Cynthia Smart has almost achieved her goal in life at the age of forty-four. So when after an insignificant one night stand, she discovers she is pregnant, she is determined to not let this pregnancy interfere with reaching her goals.
But soon she discovers that a pregnancy does not go how she wants it to go, and that not everything will follow her minutious planning.
And to make things even more complicated, she fears that her new colleague Max is after her dream job AND she finds herself attracted to him!
The thing I loved about this book is how naive Cynthia appears to be. Yes of course, she is a smart woman (pun NOT intended) otherwise she wouldn’t be where she is in her career. She is a focused woman when it comes to get that so much desired promotion, yet she manages to be gullible when she finds out she is pregnant.
Who doesn’t dream of a pregnancy that goes exactly how you want to? And how many get that? Exactly, almost nobody does...
So each time when Cynthia’s plans do not go as expected, I had to have a little laugh!
But I also have to admire Cynthia... Even if it’s an unexpected pregnancy, she makes the best of it, and she is trying to find the best solution.
And the further the pregnancy goes along, she starts to get her priorities right. She realizes that the path she was following will not make her be a good mother, so,she starts to think about what would be best for her and the baby.
And even more admiration the way she kept Max at a distance! She feels the attraction (and let’s be honest, who wouldn’t feel the same!) yet she does not give in. Talking about having the right priorities!
But Max... Max oh Max oh Max...

This is a beautiful book about having the biggest surprise in life, making the right choices and not thinking about only yourself. It made me laugh several times, yet there were tender sweet moments in it too, but even moments I just wanted to knock some sense into Cynthia!

Cynthia Smart has almost achieved her goal in life at the age of forty-four. So when after an insignificant one night stand, she discovers she is pregnant, she is determined to not let this pregnancy interfere with reaching her goals.
But soon she discovers that a pregnancy does not go how she wants it to go, and that not everything will follow her minutious planning.
And to make things even more complicated, she fears that her new colleague Max is after her dream job AND she finds herself attracted to him!
The thing I loved about this book is how naive Cynthia appears to be. Yes of course, she is a smart woman (pun NOT intended) otherwise she wouldn’t be where she is in her career. She is a focused woman when it comes to get that so much desired promotion, yet she manages to be gullible when she finds out she is pregnant.
Who doesn’t dream of a pregnancy that goes exactly how you want to? And how many get that? Exactly, almost nobody does...
So each time when Cynthia’s plans do not go as expected, I had to have a little laugh!
But I also have to admire Cynthia... Even if it’s an unexpected pregnancy, she makes the best of it, and she is trying to find the best solution.
And the further the pregnancy goes along, she starts to get her priorities right. She realizes that the path she was following will not make her be a good mother, so,she starts to think about what would be best for her and the baby.
And even more admiration the way she kept Max at a distance! She feels the attraction (and let’s be honest, who wouldn’t feel the same!) yet she does not give in. Talking about having the right priorities!
