Phillipa lives just outside a beautiful town in country Victoria, Australia. She also lives in the many worlds of her imagination and stockpiles stories beside her laptop.
She writes from the heart about love, dreams, secrets, discovery, the sea, the world as she knows it… or wishes it could be. She loves happy endings, heart-pounding suspense, and characters who stay with you long after the final page.
With a passion for music, the ocean, nature, reading, and writing, she is often found in the vegetable garden pondering a new story.
I was looking forward to this one but in the end was a little disappointed. Martin seemed to turn into a rather domineering and controlling man. Christie became totally incompetent to the point where I had to put the book down while I got over how cross she made me!
I guess I am not really a fan of romance and this book leaned heavily that way. There was no real mystery since it was clear from the outset who was doing what, so that the reader knew and the characters in the book did not. This is conducive to stress when the characters do foolish things (Christie I mean you) but not to any sense of surprise.
All that apart the story was good, the baddies were bad and an awful lot happened! Randall, the dog, absolutely stole the show and reduced me to tears in his major scene towards the end of the book. There was a lot of drama, a lot of action and a lot of romance. Altogether a nice read but not a great one.
Christie Ryan had settled into River’s End, loving the little cottage her grandmother had willed her, determined to renovate until it was back to the way it was – with a few modern conveniences. Artist Martin Blake had been by her side, being a friend and keeping her safe after the disaster that was Derek Hobbs, her now ex fiancé. But was the past really in the past? Was she really free of Derek’s oppressive presence?
When crime hit the small town, starting with Christie’s new items which were stored in the garage, the local cop was bemused. River’s End was a safe and crime free town as a rule – what was causing this raft of problems; and who? He was determined to find the culprit and return his town to its usual state. In the meantime, Christie was becoming suspicious. Was her past coming back to haunt her?
Jasmine Sea is the 2nd in the Christie Ryan series by Aussie author Phillipa Nefri Clark and picked up immediately following The Stationmaster's Cottage (which I loved). Catching up with Thomas and Martha (briefly), Elizabeth and Angus as well as the beautiful, devoted retriever Randall was great. The author’s words make it easy to envision the beauty of River’s End overlooking the sea; the yachts bobbing in the water; the peace and calm, sunsets and the dawns – all beautifully described. The suspense and mystery scenes were nicely done. All in all, a book to recommend – but I’d suggest The Stationmaster’s Cottage first.
*https://mrsbbookreviews.wordpress.com Following immediately on from the events that occurred in its predecessor, The Stationmaster’s Cottage, Jasmine Sea is book two in the River’s End Romance series. Australian author Phillipa Nefri Clark successfully combines a love story and a suspense filled tale, populated by endearing characters, all set to a stunning seaside location.
For Christie Ryan, life is starting to take shape after the split from her controlling ex, Derek. She has now settled into a cottage by the sea, a cottage that she is slowly renovating. Love has also entered Christie’s life again in the form of talented artist Martin Blake and marriage soon looms on the horizon for this couple. When a strange woman appears on Martin’s doorstep, to commission a portrait, the woman’s request for secrecy has Christie rattled. In addition, Christie, Martin and the residents of River’s End are shook up when a series of crimes are committed in their once safe town. Christie’s past comes back to haunt her at the same time, which she must uncomfortably confront, head-on.
What a lovely story and welcome experience to revisit the wonderful character set from a book I thoroughly enjoyed earlier this year, The Stationmaster’s Cottage. It is nice to follow straight on from the events that occurred in The Stationmaster’s Cottage. We are treated to an insight into the lives of leads, Christie Ryan and Martin Blake in Jasmine Sea. We are also able to catch up with dear old friends from the last novel, such as Thomas, Martha, Randall the dog. Furthermore, meet some new characters along the way.
Phillipa Nefri Clark presents her readers with a full bodied narrative. Jasmine Sea combines a beautiful, romantic and slightly complicated love story, with a strong line of suspense. I enjoyed the suspense and crime scenes very much in this novel, which were well written. There are plenty of secrets to shake up this narrative and to keep your eyes continually glued to the page, for the entire length of this novel.
Christie the leading lady of Jasmine Sea, is a superbly drawn character. I liked how Nefri Clark allowed us to see her strengths and vulnerabilities. Christie goes through quite the character journey over the progression of the novel. She is faced with love and relationship issues, as well as some difficult problems from the past that come back to haunt her. Along the way, Christie grows as a person and the final result, after a thrilling build up, was a satisfying indeed.
What continued to resonate with me with Phillipa’s writing and her books, is her knack for depicting her setting. I just adored the detailed and vivid descriptions of life at the seaside locale of River’s End. The insertion of the yacht that is gifted to Christie, provides Nefri Clark with the material to include some further wonderful coastal based prose, which I appreciated very much.
Jasmine Sea is the perfect sequel to Phillipa Nefri Clark’s first novel, The Stationmaster’s Cottage. It is a book that combines a number of engaging themes and genres, to form one compelling read. I do hope there is more on the horizon, story wise, for Christie, Martin and the residents of River’s End.
*With thanks to the author, Phillipa Nefri Clark, for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
This is the follow up story to the fabulous book The Stationmaster’s Cottage and what a story it is, I loved it, it has a little bit of everything in it suspense, love and romance friendship and uncovering secrets from the past. I did very much enjoy catching up with friends from the seaside town that I had met in the first book. This one had me turning the pages I did not want to put it down, my advice when you pick this one up as I highly recommend you do, is that you make yourself very comfortable and enjoy as I did.
We are back in Rivers End with Christie Ryan and Martin Blake who are very much in love but of course there is a vulnerability with Christie that has been caused by her past and her narcissist ex Derek, but Martin is being his fabulous self and is being protective caring and loving, but when a couple of strangers arrive in town there is cause for alarm. Will danger impinge on their happiness or will their love and strength win through?
This is a fabulous story the characters come to life on the pages, they become friends I was cheering them on and feeling very emotional at times with Christie and Martin and of course Randall (who doesn’t love a good dog in a story). MS Nefri-Clark has written a story that ticks all of the boxes for a romance with edge of your seat suspense she brings the residents of the small seaside town into the mix which adds so much and I believe this story has been left so as there is sure to me more in this series.
I hope I have done justice with this review and that you will pick this book up and enjoy it as much as I did it left me feeling so good, thank you MS Nefri-Clark for another fabulous story this is another one for the keeper shelf.
Another good book. Good solid characters, mystery and intrigue. This is the second book in the series and I have enjoyed both. I would have given this one 5stars but for one or two crucial missing pieces of the puzzle. How did Christie's grandmother get to own the Stationmaster's cottage so she could leave it ti Christie and how come the previous tenants never took the box out of the attic when that was all that was there... apart from these questions not being answered, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Very enjoyable. A really good conclusion to the story. I am looking forward to whatever this author writes next. It's so nice to have a quality novel set in Australia that captures the essence of Australia without pandering to international audiences and being twee with kangaroos hopping down the main street. Please keep writing, Ms Clark.
A fantastic story set on the coast in rural Victoria, Australia . There is romance, suspense and intrigue. This book follows the story of Christie, Martin, their friends, family and a few enemies who are causing lots of problems for everyone. An excellent read which I can't recommend highly enough; I am looking forward to reading more in this fabulous series.
This is the follow up story to The stationmaster’s Cottage.
If you love suspense, drama, loveable characters, baddies, a tight knit community, picturesque scenery, and a dog so cute you want to squish it… then this book is for you. Yes, indeed it is!
Loving the Rivers End series. More of Christie and Martin and adorable dog, Randall plus many of the characters we met and loved in the first book. The story is a twisty page-turner, beautifully crafted by the author. I'd like to visit Rivers end.
Jasmine Sea by Phillipa Nefri Clark (Book Two, A River’s End Love Story) Christie Ryan has a little cottage that she is renovating. She knows Derek Hobbs is an ex for a reason, and hopefully out of her life for good. There are no more little secrets or mysteries left to solve regarding him. But can she make Martin Blake her husband some day.
This book is the follow up to the awesome book The Stationmaster’s Cottage. It will show friendship, love, suspense, and most of all the very well hidden secret comes back out again.
This author keeps you glued to the story and intrigued to find out what happens next. So please enjoy this very well written story. Find out if danger will hurt the love and will there be enough strength to endure the trials and tribulations.
At least, I couldn't. Jasmine Sea is the second book in this series, and almost as good, because it ties up a few problems as well as introduces a couple more love interests. This writer is an artist with words. She has painted the backdrop of a warm, delicious story in Austrailia. Her characters are very lifelike, and she has carved the present day relationships out of their past history. This book will have a place on my bookshelf for tbe rest of my life, and I will be exploring Ms Clark's other books as soon as I can get tbem. Thank you so much for this wonderfully goodread, Ms Clark. Your talent is exceptional!
Just loving this series - totally hooked. Its a long time since I read anything even remotely like this, and I had forgotten how therapeutic it is to just kick back and read a good old fashioned love story, with some mystery and secrets thrown in. I love the characters and feel like I have known them from somewhere. Except for Derek Ingrid and Rupert all seem like the type of folk you would be happy to spend time with. Now to book 3.
We've all had that "Just two more chapters" read, but I had the "I have to know Randall (the dog) is going to be okay" moment that turned a forty-five minute read into a three hour marathon. I was interested to read this title as a follow on from The StationMaster's Cottage and also as a stand alone read. I will admit the first dozen chapters were a little to sweet for my taste but when the mystery thriller aspect started to take hold and twist around I was hooked all the more. If this is the first you read you might miss out on the controlling narcissistic nature of Derek but you will find yourself snarling at the deceptions and willing the hero to beat his butt. As with the first book there is a smattering of nostalgia and history to entertain and inform and set the premise to feelings. The characters are a wonderful blend of small town friendly folk that bring the sunshine from the page. The ending while sufficient and neat did leave me wondering a couple of things, just clarifying aspects but maybe that just how I like endings, tidy and complete. I'm wondering whether there will be a book three and what direction that might take.
This is book 2 in the author's Rivers End series. I started reading it immediately after finishing book 1, The Stationmaster's Cottage. This book follows the relationship between Martin and Christie, who were central characters in the previous book.
I couldn't put this down. I love Martin and Christie together, and they see quite a number of challenges in this book. I felt so many emotions when reading it: excitement, sadness, sympathy, annoyance and a little hatred ( towards Derek---iykyk), and a lot of fear when certain things were ratcheting up and coming together in an explosion of emotion. If you like your stories to have emotion and your characters to feel like real people, then do yourself a favor and read thus. Better yet, start with book 1 and THEN read this.
By author Phillipa Nefri Clark. This tale takes on where The Stationmaster's Cottage (River's End Romance Book 1) left off. A reader would stay glued to the pages till the very end. The story flows fluidly and took me to heart breaking tension and breathtaking thrills.
It was an amazing adventure to be a part of the magic in Jasmine Sea, even for a little while! It has got it all...action, humor, pulse-raising suspense and heart-melting warmth.
Acreditando do poder do amor? É esse. Se você não conhece o livro e nem a autora, vale muito a pena conhecer 😍
The perfect follow-up to "The Stationmaster's Cottage", "Jasmine Sea" does not disappoint. Without giving any spoilers, you'll love the continuing romance between Christie and Martin, learn more about Christie's scurrilous ex, and discover the crescendoing drama taking place in Rivers End all leads to a heart-pounding and page turning climax. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and highly recommend it!
This is a good story with several plot twists. It holds your attention. Some characters make you want to take action. Dont care for people like that and the world is full of them.
This book takes place in a seaside town where you will find yourself following this lovely story. If you enjoy a story that has suspense , secrets, romance this is a book right up your alley. Get a cozy spot , curl up and enjoy. This is linked to The Stationmasters Cottage.
Even though I liked the first book better, this book continued with the story. It was an enjoyable read. I hope there will be another book in this series.
"Jasmine Sea: A River's End Love Story. Book 2" by Phillipa Nefri Clark follows the the first book "Stationmaster's Cottage" which I highly recommend. If you haven't read the first book you'll be able to follow this story because the author does an amazing job. It has everything; romance, suspense, secrets from the past in a seaside town. This is Christie Ryan and Martin Blake's story. Loved it.
