Emma Fischel grew up in the country, the middle of five children, and had a happy, muddy childhood. She now lives in London and has three nearly grown-up children of her own – two boys and one girl, all very tall, and extremely useful at changing light bulbs she can’t reach. Emma writes both fiction and non-fiction. Her books have been published by Bloomsbury, Usborne, Watts, and others.
Captain Scott by Emma Fischel gives a very interesting insight into the life and achievments of Captain Robert Scott on his journeys of exploration.
This book gives a detailed account of Captain Scotts life and the events leading up to his exploration of Antartica and The South Pole. It gave a great insight, suitable for children, into the struggles he and his brave team encountered on their journey. His great determination to suceed and his loyalty to his team also provides children with a sense of how important team work is. In this book, we come across very exciting carachters and it instils a desire to find out more about those briefly mentioned.
I would recommend this book for children in KS1 and KS2 as it contains a lot of information and is a longer book than those in EYFS are generally introduced to. It also promotes great cross curricular learning as it can be linked to History, English, Geography and Drama.
