In Norwich in search of serenity, itinerant archaeologist Jarvin Mandrake engages in an ancient battle with the Dark Angel and discovers that he is the only man who can save the world from the dark one's evil.

I had real problems getting into this, partly because I found the main character to be quite endearing and he suffers a conga-line of humiliations and distrust throughout - which is especially difficult to sit through during the first half. However once the plot started tying itself together I found it much more enjoyable.
Pretty sure I read this back when I was 14 or so, though it's not really jogging any memories on the reread.
This author seems to be quite fond of writing needlessly long sentences. I can practically feel myself running out of breath while reading them in my head.
Going to give this one 4 stars because I am very familiar with the locations this book is set in. The author has either done his homework, or lives in Norwich. Not a bad story either.
