Trapped in his conservatory for 250 years by the curse of an enraged woman, Max appears to Olivia just before Christmas. Olivia is a young woman waiting for the right man to recognize her strengths and talents. Can Olivia help Max break the curse without breaking her heart?
Max is the first book in a short time-travel novella series. I found my reading of it to be light-hearted and entertaining, and I loved how the author used the disparage in time to create minor conflicts (and lots of humor!).
This is a laugh-out-loud book with sweet romance, hints of fantasy, and deeper underlying themes about arrogance and punishment and ultimately, redemption.
One critique I do have is that I found this story to be a little too short. Even for a novella, Max would be considered short, and I think the romance suffered from it. Max and Olivia are great together as a couple, but by my standards, Olivia fell in love with Max way too soon. I mean, she was real serious about marrying him after they'd met for only a few pages! That's crazy stuff.
Still, I loved the humor this book provided, and my overall experience with it is still positive. Given the chance, I would be willing to try another book by the same author.

A time travel tale. A good yarn about someone from the past appearing in the present. It makes it easier if the time traveler is mistaken for a re-inactor in Colonial Yorktown, Virginia. The author makes the story interesting with Max trying to navigate the modern world and trying to figure out how to get back to his own time and right the wrongs that made him leap so far into the future. Suspend belief and join the fun.

I have read these time travel novellas out of order, so it was nice to finally read book one in the series and see how everything got started. I have really enjoyed this fun collection. The books all had a good spiritual thread in them pointing to God. And although the stories were short, the characters were relatable and the romances felt believable to me in each book.
In Max, the main character, Maxwell Ballard, comes forward in time. I liked that Olivia actually saw him appear, so that that she was more inclined to believe that he was from the past. I loved how excited Max was to experience life in the modern world. He was not one to bemoan what was missing from the past, but embraced and hoped for the future.
The sweet connection that grew between Max and Olivia was quick, since the novella was not long. However, it felt genuine and I thoroughly enjoyed the interactions between these two characters.

Max Ballard from Yorkton, Virginia Colony in 1769, disappeared due to a curse and hadn't been seen since. That is until he turned up in 2019.
This time-slip novel is a prequel to the series. The storyline is enchanting and the characters are well-developed and interesting. The historical references bring the story to life and Olivia & Max's common interest in music bought richness to it.
The story flowed well and had some tense moments that kept me turning the pages. Highly recommended. Another great read from the author.

Max is a time travel novella that is written by Izzy James. This is the first book in the Yorktown Christmas Time-Travel Series. I read the books a bit out of order, but that did not take anything away from the story. Max Ballard has been trapped in a curse for over 250 years - he has been able to watch and observe but all of a sudden Olivia can see him.
Olivia had heard the stories of Colonial times when Max Ballard disappeared. She is shocked when she sees him in front of her. She tells her grandmother, Dr. Rita Woods (she has her own story in book 3) and her grandmother encourages her to see what she can do to try and break the curse. I think my favorite scene was when Max ventures out into the city. Dressed in colonial garb, he is fascinated by everything that he sees in front of him.
I also loved how the author had Olivia witnessing to Max. Making sure his soul was in order was high importance. The characters are well written - the storyline intriguing. I have enjoyed this novella series.

Max by Izzy James is the prequel to the Time Travel series. I have a couple of books in the series, this is a good standalone book.
The setting is Colonial Yorktown, Virginia present time. Max had been stuck in his conservatory for 250 years. He has made it back to the present time and meets Olivia just before Christmas. Olivia has been waiting for the "right man" that would recognize her for who she is, along with her strengths and skills. Olivia now needs to help Max break the curse he has been under. Can Olivia do that and win his heart? Will there be a connection between Olivia and Max?
I truly enjoyed this "Time Travel" book. I love how it went into the Modern World, whereas most Time Travel books go back in time. Max is a wonderful character and Olivia is a very caring person. The Author really has written an interesting story and one that captivates the reader. I was so interested in the book that I finished it within 2 hours. I HIGHLY recommend this book! GREAT BOOK!
I think I am a sucker for a good time travel romance, add in a dash of humor and I’m sold.
This was my first time reading a book by Izzy James (Elizabeth Chevalier Hull) and I really enjoyed being thrust into this short whimsical tale!
The banter between Max and Olivia was sweet and sassy.
Reading about Max’s adjustments to the time he found himself in were interesting and thought provoking (I mean how would you handle being through hundreds of years in the future?)
The only negative I had with it was the length. I totally felt like it could have easily been a full length novel as the characters were primed for it.
4 Stars.

One of the best time travel books I've read. Although technically, it's not time "travel"...I recommend you read it to find out why. The romance part is delightful and the ending leads into the next novella in the series, which I'm looking forward to reading.
I’m not normally a fan of curses or people stuck in time or ghosts but I do love this good time travel/ghost/person stuck novel. In fact, I’ve found myself a fan of the entire series. If you’ve not had the pleasure of reading one of Izzy James novels I’d recommend you try one out today.
Max is from days gone by and yet he is appearing in our modern day to Olivia. Thankfully it’s a historical section of town that it’s not uncommon for people to be dressed up in. Olivia finds herself drawn to Max and wanting to help him. This is a short novella that begins a series. Highly recommend you try to purchase the entire series at once!

If you're looking for entertaining characters, sweet romance and happy endings you will be thoroughly pleased with this book! I love time travel stories and this one especially because I visited Yorktown many times in the 38 years I lived in VA. This was my first read by Izzy James but it certainly won't be the last.
Very short time travel story. Max is a selfish man in 1769. A curse is place on him until he can redeem his character. Olivia is able to see Max. She is the first person in 250 years to be able to do this. Will Olivia be able to help Max. I would have loved for this story to be longer. But for what it is, it was good.
Such a heart-warming story. This book tugs at your heart and your soul. Both Max and Olivia are so well crafted that you feel like you have known them for years. Loved the world building, Yorktown is a mystical place that really came to life in this book.
Loved this story. I especially like happy endings that tie up all the loose ends. Loved all the characters and the setting. Love how 'test' him. Recommend it. Lovely!
A short time travel story that has wonderful characters and is well written. Loved the historical aspect and the development of the story. Very enjoyable!
