Vote.com: Influence, and the Internet is Giving Power Back to the People

Rate this book

As the print and broadcast media-commonly referred to as the Fourth Estate-falters and fails, a new social and political force is rising in power. The Fifth Estate, as Morris has dubbed it, is made up of the rapidly growing number of voters who use Internet technology. This army of younger citizens with easy access to information and a direct link to their representatives heralds a new dawning of democracy, putting political power back into the hands of the people.

is internet really going to transform democracy if we adopt electronic voting system - that is if we rely on voting to decide - since getting everyone's buy-in will be time-consuming and costly for diverse societies like ours - it's only been 24 hours after Jakarta's very first direct-election for the capital city's governor ("mayor" in US) and i wonder about the controversy surrounding the use of electronic voting system (reflected in a NY Times clip i taped onto the inside cover of this book.. hmm i should scan it), and the Diebold saga during the past 2 US Presidential election.
