From everyone’s favorite one-haired baby comes a fond and funny ode to a special daddy, for Father’s Day or any day.

Uppy, Daddy! Up so high.
On the shoulders. Touch the sky.

Baby’s daddy is big and strong, and his legs are so, so long. He plays horsey, he sings, he cooks, he cleans—this daddy can do anything! In a sweet, simple board book threaded with signature humor, Leslie Patricelli pays tribute to the bond between a little one and a doting daddy.

Daddy and baby have fun playing together, singing together, and playing horsey. Daddy can lift baby up high. Daddy is tall and strong. Other Dads might be short or tall, bearded or bald, but this Daddy is the best one for this baby.

This board book is so adorable! I love the simple illustrations and cute characters. The art work is bright and colorful, sure to attract the attention of little readers. Seeing the baby and Daddy playing together is so heart-warming and sweet!

There is one illustration that appears to be of children with two dads, that is included in this book. There are dads of many races and ethnicities.

I love Leslie Patricelli and her newest additions, Mommy and Daddy, are great! I appreciate that both titles show each parent both playing and doing the work of childcare (Daddy cooks and cleans, gives a bath, makes pancakes; Mommy is shown feeding dinner and cleaning up after, driving to the park). These rhyming books would make great gifts for new parents or fun Mother's or Father's Day reading. Both books have a spread where they show many different mommies/daddies of different skin colors and appearances and both include one same-sex couple in that spread.

*Please note that this review covers Leslie Patricelli’s ‘Mommy’ AND ‘Daddy’ board books!

Popular author and illustrator Leslie Patricelli is the creative force behind bestselling board books like Toot (a favourite giggly read with my kids!), Quiet Loud, Hair, Tooth, and numerous other delightful children’s books. In her newest board books, Patricelli turns her attention to Mommy and Daddy (with the help of one-haired Baby, of course!). With a big open-mouthed smile and call of “Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!”, Baby brings readers into happy time with their mommy. In rhyming verses, highlighting everything from kisses, singing, dancing and giggling, to cleaning up spills on “face and tummy”, Mommy is a joyful and sweet exploration of all the amazing, wonderful, loving things that mommies do. Towards the end of the story, Baby and Mommy go and play hide-and-seek, giving readers and Baby a chance to see other children and their mommies, as well as an adorable turn for Baby to finally find their “very best” mommy. In Daddy, the story opens with an introduction to Baby’s dad who is “so big and strong” and whose “legs are so, so long”. In similar fashion to Mommy, Daddy explores the fun, active things that Baby and daddy do together, including cooking, cleaning, spinning, building, and much more. The closing pages also offer a look at other children and their daddies, and a kiss-filled closing on the “just right” daddy for Baby. In all, the Mommy and Daddy board books are delightful, happy romps- as you might expect from Leslie Patricelli’s board books! While arguably more traditional in their representations of “mommy” and “daddy”, the board books do try to include a broader diversity of people and parental representations in respective scenes. Readers who enjoy cozy, rhyming reads, or those who have enjoyed or are currently enjoying any of Leslie Patricelli’s board books starring Baby might especially enjoy the warmth and sweetness of Mommy and Daddy.

I received copies of these titles courtesy of Candlewick Press/Penguin Random House Canada in exchange for honest reviews. All opinions and comments are my own.

We're so proud of you for reading "Daddy"! What a wonderful book. You learned something special - that daddies (and mommies too!) show love in many ways, like playing, helping, and giving hugs.
Now you know that family love means being there for each other every day. You can use this by showing your love too - maybe help around the house or give extra hugs!
Great job reading, sweetheart. We love you so much!

Jack borrow this book from the Ashland public library. It follows a baby and there, Daddy, as they tell the reader all the cool things that there Daddy can do and what makes him special. It’s a sweet little book.

A book about dads and all the things they do with their little one. Cute book. Has a mommy accompaniment so you can read both. I’m not a big fan of all the writing but it has some nice rhymes.

For this for my husband and baby for Father's day. In my opinion, it's okay. In my baby's opinion, it's pretty great. We didn't ever say tubby -- we'd say bath. What the hell is a "tubby".

I appreciate the illustrations showing the daddy cooking, cleaning, and giving the baby a bath. As well as different “types” of daddy’s on one page at the end.

We identify with the part about how prickly daddy's face is. She tells me she's never felt so seen by a book.

Probably because my husband is going to be an incredible father, but this book brought out all the feels because it describes the exact relationship I hope my son and my husband have.
