By His Game #1

Blindsided: Book One in the By His Game Series

Rate this book
From Emma Hart comes a brand new series where the game is realer, the tension is tighter, the sex is hotter, and the stakes are the highest of all…

Two people. Two agendas. Two games.

What happens when the out-there It-Boy of football meets the secret It-Girl of fashion?

As the daughter of Hollywood’s sweetheart, Leah Veronica can’t even buy a coffee without finding her face on a magazine stand, so it’s no wonder she’s launching her first fashion line in secret. With it debuting at New York Fashion Week in just under a month, extra time in the spotlight is the last thing she needs.

The son of the best quarterback the league has ever seen, filling legendary shoes as the L.A. Vipers’ quarterback was inevitable for Corey Jackson. So was meeting Leah Veronica—the first girl to hand him his ass without putting a hair out of place.

Getting the handsome, prickly blonde into his bed becomes his number one goal. But getting the sexy, over-confident footballer the hell away from her becomes Leah’s—at least until she realizes the best way to do that is to give him what he wants.

If only it was that simple.

When Corey discovers who she is, and private photos of Hollywood’s finest find their way online, everything they thought they knew is thrown into disarray.

And when secrets are exposed and hearts are shattered, they have to figure out if they’ve been blindsided by love or reality, and if it’s worth running the extra yard to win the game they never meant to play.

2,5 Blindsided Stars.

Leah is the daughter of a Hollywood sweetheart. She’s a fashion designer and likes to live hidden from the public eye because she doesn’t want her work to be defined by her mother’s fame. She wants to make it on her own.
Corey is the son of an ex-football star and he’s on his way to fulfill his father’s shoes. He lives under the spotlight and everyone’s follow his steps.
When they met it all starts with a game between them, but soon things starts to getting more serious. But how can be the girl who likes to live hidden and the boy who lives in the spotlight make it work?

description

I’ve read a few books by Emma Hart before and I really liked them. I love the engaging and flowing writing style and the fact that her stories are always sweet and sexy.
This to say that despite this book being well-written and have an interesting storyline, something didn’t work for me. That “something” was the characters. I felt like Leah was whiny and immature and at several moments Corey looked like a kid who would throw a tantrum if things didn’t go his way. I didn’t connect with them as single characters and I didn’t connect with them as couple. So, when I found myself wanting to skip pages and not caring about what would happen with the main couple (in a romance book!!), it was time this book wasn’t doing it for me. The story was sweet, I liked how everything wrapped in the end, but if it had ended any other way I probably wouldn’t have cared because the couple didn’t grab my attention at all.
However, if you like athletes (like me!!) and if you want to read a steamy and fast-paced romance, you’re probably going to like this one.

DNF at 60%

We sadly have to admit we struggled to begin with reading Blindsided however we decided to keep going and it did get better but we finally had to call it a day around 60%. We realise we are in the minority considering the reviews out there but it just didn't work for us. We were unable to connect with the heroine whose behaviour and personality was very over the top, childish and extreme. We loved the Aunty and to a certain extent Corey but there was no real story so it was hard to get excited about this one. It was trying too hard, the characters had no vulnerability so in our opinion the whole thing felt quite flat and emotionless.

I must be in the minority because I had to make myself read this far. I just didn't connect with the characters at all... They were both conceited spoiled brats. Ugh. I didn't even finish it

Worst heroine ever

Well, maybe not, but I truly cannot think of a female protagonist that I disliked as much as this one.

First just let me say that I'm giving two stars for the simple fact that I did read it. The reason for finishing this book was for the sole purpose of finding out if there is a reason for the way this chick acts, and there was never one revealed. I think the author might have tried to pass off a couple of excuses, but they were so terribly lame it just made liking this female character a total bust.

The only way to describe the female lead is quite simply, she's a bitch. Plain simple flat-flat-out bitch. She acts, speaks, and treats people like a bitch. If the writer was looking for sassy, witty, sarcastic, funny, cute....whatever.....she was so far off the mark it's ridiculous. This character wasn't even in the same stratosphere as witty, sarcastic, any thing. She was just plainly put...a raving bitch. I thought surely at some point in this book she would change or redeem herself and make me like her, but just.....no. why did anyone in this book like this chick.....oh yeah, her mom's Hollywood's sweetheart or some such drivel. That's the only reason I can think of....because she's a bitch. Maybe I've said that too much, so I'll move on.

Since the male lead falls in love with this.....uhh.....mean girl (I'm trying), I have to say I couldn't like him either. That's so sad because he's a hot football player, and I love football and football players.

This story could have turned out to be a five star read because really the storyline had great potential. However, the way the female character was written just killed this in the water. I would love for this writer to clean up her characters and turn them into actually likeable and more attractive, and that doesn't include physical characteristics. This is entirely attitude, personality, behavior. I can see that this is the making of a series, but I can honestly say it will take a lot of thought as to whether I read further. The next book involves the best friend of the female in this one, and she is just as bad as this chick in the attitude department. We shall see.

Sigh.

I wanted to love this book. I really really did. It had so many elements that I love. Touches of humor, football, hot football players, a woman who loves football, etc.

But it just fell flat for me. It's not a bad book. Emma Hart can write well and that alone carries a lot. But the story just didn't work for me.

Couple reasons why.
1) I felt no connection to the couple. I just wasn't rooting for them. Corey was such a dick for most of the first half of the book. It took him until like 60% to realize that maybe he wants more than sex. His blatant desire to just have her fucked out of his system did not sit well with me at all. What worse was her acceptance of it. It took no time for her to turn around from being mad and go right into wanting him again. No thanks.

2) Leah's secret. Yawn. I'm sorry- but her big secret was not that big to me. As Corey put it "she's hiding in plain sight." It was so ridiculous to me. On top of that.

3) Forced angst. I am not the greatest lover of a lot of angst. I can stand some but when it gets to be too much or seemed forced, I just can't stand it. It happened throughout the course of the book mostly because Leah was so ridiculous about Corey and keeping things a secret. And when shit hits the fan in the end- I just can't. The way she treats him and doesn't listen is so over the top and it was just maddening.

Again- wanted to love this but it just fell flat. That being said- a lot of people loved it so maybe give it a shot!

If you liked the book, please don’t read my opinion. I tried not to be offensive but you never know…

First of all I have to say I love sarcasm, I enjoy books with sarcastic characters, I like it when the hero is knocked off balance by the heroine, especially if he’s a playboy, and I don’t mind swearing even if it’s used often.

This book had all of the above and I hated it. Why? Because Leah was sarcastic but not witty. She was set against the hero just because she felt like it, didn’t give him a chance and treated him like crap… And worse than that was how Corey kept chasing her. C’mon! HAVE SOME SELF-RESPECT!

The reason why Leah couldn’t be seen with him was really stupid, I don’t know what was going through that girls head (don’t want to either). I disliked the heroine’s treatment of her great aunt, I know it was meant to be funny, It didn’t read that way to me.

How the author managed to incorporate swearing in almost every sentence is incredible. Not even halfway through you are desensitized. Had she used them less the words would have been much more meaningful.

I don’t know if things get better towards the end because I could not bring myself to finish.

Just because it's that time of year and the playoffs are hot and heavy for the best in the leagues, I thought a football themed romance was a good ticket. The game started off with some good passes and it looked like maybe a good game was in the making. But it takes a whole team to make it to the winner's circle. Here, a lot of the plays were a bit weak, some fell short of the goal line, and a few fumbles by our quarterback kept this game just out of reach. Even the lovely cheerleader was a Debbie Downer. Her cheers were a bit weak and the pom-poms just weren't enough to shake it up and turn it all around. Still yet, this one was bundled in a whole lot of hot sizzling action, most of which was off the field) and some very sassy and heated interactions between the star quarterback and his homecoming queen.

I was looking forward to reading this book - I have been in a bit of a slump and just maybe this was the little gem to break me out of it. Not so much. It all the elements of a fun flirty sexy read for me. Hot jock check, cool sassy chick check - but then NADA. There wasn't much to their story, I didn't quite get the feels or the heat from them as a couple. I kept waiting for that boom factor that just reels me in and it just didn't pan out. And that's ok - I didn't hate it. I put aside and finished it - but I would have been fine without it.

This is the second book I've read by Emma Hart, the first one being Dirty Secret. I absolutely LOVED Dirty Secret and Conner Burke. That being said I was super excited to get my hands on Blindsided. Unfortunately I have to give this 3 1/2 stars. The reason being there were a lot of errors, I can usually look past a lot of stuff. But it was hard in this one because it was sentences being repeated and broke up the flow. Things that an editor and beta readers should've caught instantly. I generally don't rate a book based on these types of errors, I just couldn't recommend this book to anyone with these errors in it. I think that it would be a better book if these were fixed. Now on to the story itself. I liked Leah, she seemed like a no nonsense type of girl. Strong, opinionated, independent, & fun, everything I like in a leading lady. Corey, oh man Corey, HOT, built, cocky, arrogant ALPHA male, also everything I like in a leading man. I'm just not sure how I felt about the game playing that they did and the way Corey pursued her to just fuck her. Leah could've shut that down really quick if she was as strong as she portrayed herself to be. I think this because at the beginning he didn't show a side that made me think that he had a heart under all that cocky swagger. It did come out later in the book but it was a bit further in and at a point that made me question what Leah was seeing in him. Of course once the layers started being peeled back on their personalities than I was like "ah, ok I get it now". I realize for some people they may not have the patience for that and most likely won't continue on reading. I can't not finish a book, that's just me. But I'm glad I finished this one. I liked the friendships between the main characters and the side characters. As well as the family interactions. So I'm looking forward to where these characters will be in the upcoming books in this series. I'm just really hoping that the editing improves and that the errors are fixed in this book. And that I don't see the same types of errors in the next books. It honestly broke the flow and that's what caused my rating. Other than that everything else did end up working for me in the story.

Having loved Dirty Secret, I was very interested in reading more of Emma Hart's books, and a cocky athlete/daughter of Hollywood's sweetheart story seemed like a good place to start. And this sexy and funny story definitely was.

Leah Veronica knows what it's like to be in the spotlight. As the daughter of the Grace Veronica, her name and face are easily recognizable. But she's determined to make her own way, which is why she's so secretive about her career as fashion's newest star.

Corey Jackson has no reason to be secretive. He's young, good-looking and, as the quarterback for the LA Vipers, a hot commodity. When he spies Leah, he knows he has to have her. But sassy Leah isn't about to give in to his arrogant charm. Her career is on the line and she can't afford anyone to know that she's the force behind her upcoming clothing line.

Corey's working on winning her heart when Hollywood's elite are targeted by a celebrity hacker and secrets threaten to break; now Corey has to prove to his girl that he can be trusted and that football is the only game he's playing.

I wanted to love Blindsided. I liked it, very much, but there was something about Leah I struggled to connect with. I never really understood her urgency about keeping her secret. It seemed....*hmmm* unrealistic? I found it difficult to believe no one else knew (if she's as "famous" as it's made out, I feel like the connection would have been made well beforehand). Plus, the fact she didn’t confide in her best friends bothered me. Why not trust them, especially Cole?

However, I found her banter and chemistry with Corey to be exceptional. Her sass and feisty, kind of prickly attitude toward Corey were fun and kept Leah interesting. Blindsided was an excellent book when it focused on them together, both before and after they started getting it on. And a lot of that has to do with Corey. He says it best himself:

“I’m the best kind of gentleman, darlin’. I’m polite in public and filthy in private.”

And he was that. He was definitely that. His cocky demeanor was charming and I really wanted a bit more, a bit better for him at times than the seemingly ungrateful Leah.

In the end, I found myself thoroughly invested in this book. I kept reading it long after I should have stopped and thought about it during those moments when I wasn't. I loved the secondary characters enough to want to read more from them and I smiled a happy smile when I reached the end of Leah and Corey's story. Yep, I definitely want to read even more of Ms. Hart's work.

Blindsided is the first book in the By His Game series. No cliffhanger. ~ Beth, 4 stars

~~~
Leah Veronica, daughter of America’s sweetheart, secret designer of the highly anticipated Lea V fashion line, needs more publicity as much as she needs a hole in her head. Leah can’t buy a cup of coffee without paparazzi in her face, so she avoids being in the public as much as possible.
Corey Jackson, star quarterback of the LA Vipers, self-proclaimed man-whore, wants to get Leah underneath him and in his bed. He’s about to step up his game to make it happen.
So, what happens when Leah and Corey find themselves truly attracted to each other? Is there really a winner and a loser in this game? Has the game changed from bedding the babe and leaving the quarterback to something more like winning in love?
Leah and Corey are like oil and water, fire and ice—but when mixed or melted together, sparks fly, pithy barbs are thrown and their relationship is magic. I LOVED their playful interactions and damn if Leah doesn’t hand Corey his ass on a regular basis!
Not so magical is the level of trust Leah has for her supposed best friends of many, many years. Why does Leah keep her fashion line such a big secret? Have her friends done something in the past that she doesn’t trust them enough to share the information with them? It just doesn’t seem genuine—especially with her relationship with Cole as they’ve known each other most of their lives.
All in all, I did really enjoy this book! I can’t wait to see what Emma has in store for us for the rest of the series! ~ Missy, 4 stars
~ 5 Dirty Mouth Stars ~
What can I say…..I LOVED this book!!! Blindsided was a fun, sexy, and entertaining story with lovable characters and a great storyline. I knew going in I was going to love this book because it is written by Emma Hart and she is one of my ALL TIME favorite authors. I honestly thought she couldn't create a better Hero then The Stone Men in the Call/Wild Series, but I was wrong. She created Corey Jackson!!! He is everything I love in a Hero. He was sweet, yet cocky, lovable, yet arrogant, and the best of all he is a cowboy from Texas who plays football!!!!
I loved that this story is told in Dual POV. I always love getting both sides to the story. The writing, as usual is flawless and flowed perfectly. This is the first book in a New Series by Emma and I truly can't wait to read the rest of the books. This book is a standalone. She gave us a complete story with a great ending!!! I am hoping the next book might be about Cole or Jack and Macey.
In Blindsided we meet Corey Jackson and Leah Veronica. Corey is a big time quarterback for the LA Vipers. He is cocky, arrogant and a huge player. He runs into Leah at a bar and is instantly intrigued. Leah of course knows all about this 'player' and isn't falling for his lines of bull. What happens next is a funny, sexy and highly entertaining game of cat and mouse. I loved Leah. She is a strong, independent woman who is making a name for herself. She was someone who definitely gives as good as she got. The banter between Corey and Leah had me laughing so many times, but the chemistry was off the charts HOT!!!! You are going to want to meet these two characters.
The secondary characters were just as great as Corey and Leah. I loved Leah's mom and great aunt Ada. I laughed so hard when I read the conversations between Leah and Ada. She also had amazing friends…. Ryann, Macey, and Cole. They are the type of friends everyone wants to have. Even Corey's friends, Reid and Jack were great. I am truly hoping all the friends get their own books in this series.
So if you are looking for a fun, sexy and entertaining love story with a Cocky Hero and a Strong heroine, then this is the book for you. If you are a fan of Emma's then you don't want to miss this new series!!!! It's off to a great start :)
Emma Hart has found a way for me to actually like football.. Okay, well more accurately a football player.
Blindsided~Need to Know photo BlindsidedKnow_zpsca746440.jpg
Corey Jackson had me swooning through the roof. At first he definitely came off as a typical man-whore; cocky, arrogant almost to the point of annoyance. Though Corey begins to show his true colors the more time he spent with Leah. His determination to have her was sexy beyond belief. He had to have her with a passion that transcended just wanting in her pants. It was so adorable to witness the back and forth banter that ranged from argumentative to flirtatious. They really complemented each other with their similar tastes and personalities.
Their relationship was the kind that slowly built up and snuck up on them out of the blue.
Blindsided~ Telling photo BlindsidedTelling_zpsbbd67796.jpg
Leah was someone I could be best friends with. She’s so normal despite her celebrity status. She’s extremely humble and I think that was what I loved most about her. Her need to prove herself on her own terms, without the help of her fame-attached surname. I enjoyed seeing her feistiness when Corey was near, but her resistance towards him was exhausting. I don’t know how she was able to hold out on him for so long. She was quite stubborn at times and jumped to conclusions way too fast, but it was all understandable and tolerable.
Like usual, I began to love the supporting characters as well. Already I was beginning to match up everyone and wonder what their story would entail. All the while, I was still somehow enraptured by Corey and Leah’s blossoming love.
Blindsided had great laughs, steamy love scenes (like seriously turn up that AC), frustrating moments, and some sob-filled words. Beautifully balanced with every emotion, every step of the way.
Another story and yet another couple created from Emma’s mind has taken up room in my heart. Again I’m so very impressed with Emma’s writing and how effortlessly she fabricates these modernized fairy tale love stories.
I highly recommend this book and every other book from Emma Hart’s collection.
Wow! Once again, Emma Hart has reminded me why I love her books so much! If you're looking for an exciting, HOT read, then look no further!
Blindsided follows the story of Corey and Leah. Leah is the daughter to Hollywood's sweetheart. She wants nothing more than to stay out of the spotlight, which may prove to be difficult when you're trying to launch your own fashion line. The last thing she was looking for was Corey. Corey is one of the best QB's that the league has seen. He's cocky, arrogant, and used to getting what he wants. So when Leah turns him down, he doesn't know what to do with himself. Suddenly his #1 goal is make Leah his. Sounds so easy, right???? What will happen when he realizes that Leah is no longer a game? Will Leah take a chance on him? Can Leah be in a relationship in the spotlight and still keep her secret??
I gotta say, I was intrigued by this one, and was hooked upon reading the first page. You could tell immediately from all the fighting that Corey and Leah were doing that they're chemistry was going to be off the charts and boy does Emma Hart not disappoint! As I said before Corey is confident and arrogant, but as the story goes on, you see that there is more to Corey than meets the eye. He's got a softer side that no one sees. And Leah, boy does she challenge Corey. She makes him work for her trust. She's got one fiery personality. And when you put Corey and Leah together......watch out!! They are smokin !!! Their chemistry is off the charts and you can't help, but root for them!
Blindsided was a quick and exciting read for me. I loved the characters. I found them very easy to connect with. This book made me laugh, smile, swoon, and frustrated me at times. It was steamy, sexy, funny and had just the right amount of angst and drama. If you enjoy celebrity drama, alpha males and lots of steam, you won't be disappointed! This is a really exciting start to this series and I can't wait to see where Emma Hart will take us next!
So. I waited a few days before writing my review. I wanted to make sure I wasn't in a bad mood when I did it, thus clouding my judgement on it. Now that I've had a few days to think about it, I still think it was just "eh". There were a few parts that that kept me hanging on and actually made me feel connected to the characters. But I felt most of the book was annoying. The characters were very immature and all the back and forth "I want him, I don't want him, I want him, I don't want him" got to be exhausting.
I also felt the author added words just for the sake of making the book longer. There were pages and pages of describing how you know you love someone. After the second page I started just skimming during spiels like that. And at least 3 sentences to describe feeling. He was _____ ,yet _____. He's ______ ,yet ______. ______, yet _____. That happened so often that I lost track and can't even think of specific example of it now.
Overall, the book was ok but nothing that will stick with me for a long time.
Holy hotness Batman!! OMGeeee! This is one story sure to steam up your Kindle! The sex scenes were hot as hell so you might find that you're fanning yourself!
What a fantastic start to this new series! Corey Jackson is cocky, arrogant, hot...oh, and did I mention he's a pro football player? *cue the swooning* He certainly met his match in Leah, let me tell you! Her strong-willed, take-no-prisoners attitude was refreshing.
My favorite part of this book was the back and forth banter between the characters. I LOVE an author who can write good banter, and Emma does a 5 Star job at it in this book!! Watching these two go back and forth was hilarious!
This was a great story full of everything that makes celebrity romance one of my favorite tropes! A must read for fans of alpha males, celebrity love stories, and witty repartee.
Loved this book!
I absolutely loved Corey's unapologetic cockiness! And Leah's relentless stubbornness. Both characters played off of each other very well, and made for a funny book. These characters personalities and the way they are written really helps you feel the emotion in the book as well.
The reasons I am going 4 versus 5 stars, even though I loved the book, are as follows. 1- The build up to the first time they have sex was extreme (this I loved). However, I felt let down by the actual first time. That might sound bad, but I really expected a more descriptive and longer first sex scene after the amount of build up to it. 2- I really wanted a little more out of the epilogue.
With that being said. I would definitely recommend this book. I think it is a good read.
Pretty good
This book was so so. To be honest, I despised Leah. She was way too bitchy and felt way to sorry for herself. She thought the whole world was out to get a piece of her because of who her mom was. Corey...he should have just forgot about Leah's selfish butt. He was a hot, cocky, rich, cocky football star. He was on a mission to get in Leah's pants. Along the way, his feelings changed. Boy did he put up with a lot of crap from Leah. There is a difference in being sarcastic and witty and being a big old bitch like Leah. Can you tell I did not like Leah...AT ALL. Corey could have done so much better. I always enjoy Emma's books but this was not a favorite.
I just cheated on Tyler Stone a little bit with Corey Jackson. Swoooon! That guy totally stole a piece of my heart, and Corey and Leah are in the running for the top spot of my favourite Hart couple to date!
I just really loved these two. Corey was a cocky, arrogant, completely loveable, sexy guy, and Leah was a funny, strong, sassy woman, and together they were just fantastic.
I laughed, I swooned, I got mad, I cried, and most of all, I LOVED!! A great start to a new series coming in January 2015, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book, and the next Hart couple <3
*spoilers*
So, the best thing I can say about this book is that I finished it. Which around chapter 7 was starting to look really iffy.
I immediately hated Corey. He's this super hot arrogant star quarterback. I wanted to like him. I wanted him to be this overconfident asshole with a hidden heart of gold. Or some tragic/traumatic past that made him that way. But nope. He's just a jerk. A rich kid with a star athlete father who got every break in life and always gets what he wants. And can't take no for an answer. In the first few chapters he's beyond pushy and veers into borderline obsessive stalker. He comes up behind Leah unexpectedly and smacks her butt while she's out for a run and at one point when she's had enough of his shit and leaves, he follows her home and basically mauls her. Ugh. And his inner dialogue is gross.
"What if her ‘busy’ was seeing another guy? Fuck. No motherfucking way.
Her body belongs to me until I decide otherwise. Every fucking part of her, from her head to her toes, is mine. And only mine.
No other guy, no man, gets to see it. They don’t get to touch it or kiss it or even think about it.
She doesn’t know it, but I do. I know how she responds to me, how her heart thuds beneath my touch, how her pupils dilate when I get close. I see the way she inhales whenever her eyes meet mine. But her? No.
Leah Veronica has no idea how she feels about me.
She’s oblivious to the obvious.
Luckily for her, I’m more than clear on the situation.
Leah Veronica belongs to me.
And she will until I tell her that she doesn’t."
Major yuck.
And Leah. Confused, frustrating Leah. She doesn't like Corey at first either. And she tells him so. While also kissing him back when he kisses her out of nowhere. And allowing him to come to her house for dinner with her mom and aunt, and showing up to his friend's party even though she doesn't want to. Jeez. The girl has no backbone. She says no but then she does exactly what he wants her to. The one time I got excited she was finally going to stand up for herself, and she stops putting up with his shit and leaves a party without telling him, she ruins it. When Corey shows up right behind her at her house, I was rooting for her to tell him to go to hell. But SHE DOESN'T. She barely snarks at him and then succumbs to his manhandling and kiss. And then agrees to "be ready at four" tomorrow. For what? We don't know. Neither does she. But she does it anyway.
"I swallow as he gets closer because, although it’s dark, I can see his expression. The light from the house gives me a full view of his tight jaw, his pursed lips, his strong cheekbones. The annoyance in his gaze glints bright green, and I wonder how he’s the one who is annoyed when I’m the one he pisses off.
I stand steady, but he doesn’t stop when he reaches me. Instead, he grabs me and pushes me against the wall, his fingers sliding into my hair and his mouth descending on mine.
I murmur a protest, but it’s futile. He’s stronger than I am, and he holds me in place as his lips attack me. I grip his shirt at his waist, curling my fingers into the soft material, and succumb to the sensation of his hard kiss."
WHY ARE YOU CONSTANTLY KISSING HIM AND THEN TELLING HIM YOU HATE HIM?!
Later on in the book she does get angry with him and tells him to leave. And he does. But then she gets mad because apparently when she says leave she's really testing him to make sure he'll fight for her and stay. Ugh.
Besides the characters I loathed, the plot was weak. Leah agreed to give Corey one week of her time. And then she'll walk away after and he had to leave her alone. But midway through she realizes he won't leave until he sleeps with her. So she decided to basically beat him at his own game. But she's not playing him back. She basically just gives in to whatever he wants. I don't understand how she was supposedly manipulating him too by falling into bed with him. At least she got some good orgasms.
There's a side plot about someone leaking celebrity nudes and hacking the cloud. So then *spoiler* when Leah's big secret is revealed, she IMMEDIATELY blames Corey and accuses him of spilling the beans. With no evidence. Knowing that both Corey and one of her good friends both had nude photos leaked recently and that someone is revealing secrets. She refused to listen to him, kicks him out and basically throws a temper tantrum. Then when she's finally given evidence that Corey is innocent, she goes running back to him to apologize and he just forgives her. Like she didn't just accuse him of betraying her with no evidence. Bitch, please.
I probably should have given this one star. But I guess Corey did get better as the book went on. Not good. But better. Less stalker and more just plain asshole. Leah was pretty basic to me the whole time. She seemed really young like she was still just interested in playing games and adding to the perception women don't know what they want and are confusing and indecisive on purpose. Ugh.
Two stars just because I managed to finish it and it let me avoid the dishes for a few hours. Do not recommend.
I tried. For three whole years I tried. I’ve never DNF a book but today I had to. My mom told me “life’s too short to read bad books” and so for the first time I had to put a book down. I started reading this February 2015, three years later- it was still sitting there, haunting me. The grammatical errors are vast, the annoying heroine is there, the ridiculous hero is present and most importantly the empty story from beginning to 25% of the book (which is as far as I got) also there. All that and more brings me to today, DNF thanks to my moms amazing advice which she probably found on google but nonetheless it got me to do something I couldn’t bear to do.
blind side ~ catch (someone) unprepared; attack from an unexpected position
This is a perfect definition for the cat and mouse game played between Leah Veronica and Corey Jackson in Emma Hart’s newest release. From their first meeting to the unexpected “relationship” they hide under the media radar, neither Leah nor Corey are used to the feelings they bring out of each other; in fact, they sneak up on the both of them and threaten to unhinge all aspects of their lives in every possible way.
Their lifestyles couldn’t be more different – despite her mother’s movie star status, Leah wants nothing to do with the spotlight; she avoids the media as much as possible and attempts to do everything under the radar in order to procure some kind of anonymity – some sort of privacy to be who she wants to be and accomplish her goals without riding on her mother’s coat tails. As the quarterback for the LA Vipers and media’s “It” boy, Corey plays his role and puts on a show for all the world to see; his conquests, his nightlife is out there in the open, never truly shying away from the spotlight because he has an image to live up to and is unconcerned with how he is perceived.
Can a reclusive beauty and a cocky football star have a relationship that started out as a challenge…a charade…a game, or will they both be blind to what’s truly in front of them and walk away once the “competition” is over?
Blindsided is a quick read that has a good mix of witty banter, a plethora of sexual chemistry and sexual frustration between the hero and heroine, and a cocky and alpha male who could turn any woman’s panties wet with his filthy mouth.
Leah and Corey’s interactions are both comical and hot, and while I didn’t really understand all of Leah’s choices, I do understand her need to go her own way and make a path for herself. Corey definitely is a smug bastard at times, but it’s the façade he’s used to playing, and the fact that Leah has the ability to make his celebrity mask fade away and show her the real Corey speaks volumes for how much they bring out both the good and bad sides of each other.
I’m glad readers were given both of the main characters’ point of views; I think it would have been difficult to truly see who Corey is at his core without his own words and internal thoughts – Leah’s skewed view might have turned me off of him from the get go, but witnessing Corey’s struggles and self realizations really helped to mold my perception of him in a positive way.
Overall, I really enjoyed Blindsided. There were times where I wanted to shake both Leah and Corey, but they do redeem themselves, and even though I had a bit of a hard time with some of the storyline, it still captured my attention and made me want to keep reading in order to find out what Leah and Corey’s choices would be.
It will be interesting to see who the next couple will be in the By His Game series.
