uh 2 stars cause i didn't struggle to finish per se but the characters were unbelievable and the story was weak

also mf because the invalid mate, Ethan is pretty much a women that has a penis. I think this is the first book where two werewolf's mate and only one claims the other, was Ethan too womanly to actually claim his mate? I found the whole thing absurd and as a gay man almost offensive.

(After reread 7/2/2018) ~ Very interesting to discover that I still adored Ethan but I really didn't care for Jace this time around. His hemming & hawing really annoyed me and I felt Ethan deserved so much better from the get-go. I would have loved getting more background on Ethan but I still adore him.
I'm also beginning to really notice the inconsistencies from book to book. It's probably easier to notice them since I'm rereading the whole series back-to-back but it's still a shame that the editing is so poor.

I loved this book! I was already hopelessly in love with Ethan from the glimpses in prior books but here he had the chance to really shine. Jace was supremely easy to love.

The two together? Yowza. That's all I'm going to say about that. Great book!

I'm giving every book in this series two stars because they're badly written and the characters are all obnoxious clichés, but the story is interesting enough for me to want to find out what happens in the next one.

Seriously...Ethan's drunk, was just rejected by his mate after waiting three months for him...and they let him by himself and go dine? Bravo!

And this writer love that her personnage suffer of the battered woman syndrome. The guy disappear for three month and the fisrt thing that you said to him it's I love you!? Next, the guy let you for six weeks after learning he is your mate, do not call you, do not contact you in anyway...he threw you across the room, you broke your back and you can't never shift again (when it's was previsible that it's was going to happen again)...AND YOU FORGIME HIM??? Yeah, because the whole mating thing's the peftect excuse for forgiving everything and always.

And how much can a guy cry in a story before it's become just too much?

Ethan nodded. “It’s not so bad. We lost a lot of members of our pack, but we moved here and this place is much nicer."
He said that, while talking about the story behind the book 2. Wow, I'm glad that the death of more than 270 peoples's not so bad.

How come only Jim and Donovan, personages on the book 3, are the only one that have a mate bond? I through that maybe it's because the two of them are werewolf, in the differences of the other couples present in the others books, but in this one we have a pair of werewolf that are mate...

Not really bad, just really cheezy and suffer of a lack of originalities.

The most heart-piercing story in the series so far, filled with some unfortunate moments.
This time Stormy Glenn has made fate and circumstances very cruel to both Ethan and Jace in the first half of the book. The sudden twist was when Ethan, while being a werewolf and possesing quite an amount of physical strength and ability to regenerate (heal), still got badly injured and at some point considered handicapped.
Jace has also faced a life-threatening situation, but he healed completely, while Ethan had a long, hard and painful way to recovery, which also created psychological issues for both of them.
It's a story of fighting for each other, emotionally charged with the whole range of emotions - from anger, and fury, depression and great pain to strong feelings and love. And this is pretty rare for a standard book of this genre (Werewolves/Mates).

For anyone who likes werewolves and prefers them to have emotions as well as sex appeal, this is a great read.

I really loved the characters, Jace and Ethan, both "lost" in their own way. Ethan's loyalty to Jace, even though he claimed him and then forgot all about it, was touching. Jace's regret when he finds out that he found a mate but silver poisoning wiped out his memory, is equally fierce. The two are determined to make a go at a shared life, never mind the continuing obstacles.

The whole Wolf Pack series is brilliant and this 5th volume was no exception!

I have to say it but this book so far is one of her best. That is unless another of hers proves me wrong.

You've got a smaller man, Ethan, who only wants to be loved and then who have this big hunk Jace and they are opposite but they say opposite attract and the characters are written to in such a way that they compliment each other to a T.

Nice write!

This is by far my favorite Stormy Glenn book, sure it had its couple of wtf moments, the most strange one was whe Jace comes back after Ethan is injured and Ethan goes from utter fear & resentment to down dirty flirtness, can you say bipolar?, but after that the story takes up its pace and keeps steady, i loved that for once the feminine guy aka Ethan didn't top the strong alpha, it's something that always takes me out of the stories, Ethan for once was adorable i loved him before the injury, he lost a little of his spark after it, because the author wanted to focus in Jace redeeming himself, which i think she did a good job on it, the rest of the characters didn't feel overly intrusive either, a very good book.

3.5 rounded down

Stormy Glenn is one of those authors that I read for comfort books. I don't expect a lot of tears, I'm guaranteed my happy ending, and I can read it in one sitting. This filled that quota perfectly. That said, I did like that she took on a disability in this book, and that there wasn't some "magical cure" by the end of the book. Yay! On the other hand, . Still, an enjoyable read.

My reread of the series begins in this book and not in the book one. I was reading another book and remember about this. I wish that i have stopped in this book or reread just 4 and 5 because this reread finished this series for me.

About this book: I liked and i still like with some questions.
Yeah, yeah... Ethan is smaller and more submissive than Jace, yada, yada. Is the same thing that in book 1 e 2, but the plot is very original. Ethan appears in previous books always speaking about waiting for his mate and when finally met him, well, Jace has been poisoned and don't remember Ethan. He disappear and months laters reappears without any memory of Ethan. And more he deny so strongly Ethan's allegations that throw him across the room. When Jace came back after he realized that never wanted the life that his father imposed to him there are consequences. Ethan has suffer an injury that even been a shifter can't be fixed and Jace who did this.
Some nice things in this book. Ethan being disabled and cooping with this without looking that his life ended. Is a good message to put in the world and more the most authors do. It's also well done the fact that being a shifter don't mean being invulnerable and that even shifters can have injuries that has lasting effects.
I think that Ethan is my favorite character in this book. He is so sweet without looking stupid and has such kind personality because he has one. Surprise!
He is very sweet and after discover that Jace was poisoned begin to try to forgive him. I like Jace too, but side a side with a character like Ethan he looks lacking something, but without a doubt he adores Ethan. So, i like him. And he cooks. Shocker!
The think that annoys the hell out of me: In the end when discover that who injured Ethan was Jace's brother. It's too easy. I think the book would be better if was Jace. He never would forgive himself, but actions must have consequences. It would have been tragic but in the end the book would be more complex and layered. Sometimes doesn't matter how much we love someone and still could hurt they unconsciously

2014 Re-read:

This is less depressing than I remembered it being. (Although I maintain that it was Jace who did the relevant injury to Ethan, going by the description of that scene.) Kudos for avoiding complete invulnerability for werewolves or perfect recovery from everything.

Even so, whatever happened to the telepathic link between mated wolves (I assume it’s just wolves since that was where it came up before). Or do they need to both bite? If so, why don’t they? It’s disappointing when an author ignores their own established lore for plot convenience. Then again this is very common especially with telepathic abilities.

But how can Ethan expect Jace to have sex with women while being mated to him if mated wolves can only get it up for their partner? This is not a throwaway remark, either. It keeps coming up. Meh.

Next in the line of things that randomly get changed around, Nate’s ability to sense emotions via skin contact has apparently evolved into near limitless telepathy since he keeps answering people’s thoughts from across the room. Plus when he does touch people he seems to not be in pain anymore, even without Joe nearby. Go, figure. (Although the author forgot about this before, so nothing new here.)

I suppose what’s more… unsettling is the awful job of depicting a back injury. Ethan moves around without hitches. Not only is his mobility pretty good (bending and reaching and whatnot seem to be no real problem), but aside from one token segment Jace gets to bend and handle and flip and twirl him around without eliciting pain as well.

And don’t get me started on the very weird full moon mating thing. I get that Ethan is focused on the shifting and running aspect since this is something he can’t do anymore. But the mating aspect is such a huge deal for shifters that they – or at the very least Jace – need to be aware of what will happen. Every other wolf in this series was all “at the full moon I will chew through steel bars to get to you” but suddenly that’s unexpected? In fact, Jace’s third form as such seems a completely alien concept to Ethan. Ethan who grew up a wolf shifter among others of his kind. And then the associated sex. In book one the sex was said to be mandatorily rough. Recipients had to prep themselves beforehand since the wolf would be mindless with lust and all that fun stuff. But Jace here is all nice and sweet. Kind of. And mostly gentle. It’s okay, what with being instinct and all, but does that mean all the other guys were unmindful of their partner’s needs? Or – and I think this might be the real reason – was that talk about roughness and overpowering need just exaggerated? Yeah, pretty sure that’s it.

I also wondered before how that sort of full moon mating plays out between two wolves. We don’t get to see any of that here, of course, since Ethan is a total bottom (or stand-in for a female). But how come Ethan is not affected by the full moon? No ravenous need to mate? Not even a twitch of his body trying to transform into third form? Huh.

Okay, I did a lot of complaining here, but overall this wasn’t so bad. The usual caveats apply. The writing’s still somewhat shaky and people’s thought processes aren’t always making sense and certain reactions seem to be present simply for producing plot. But yeah. This is a nice enough book to read if you can handle all of the above.

I love this series and when I realized I had skipped this book, I had to go back and read it.

Now, while I love Stormy Glenn, most of her books are serials (which I love) but aren't really meant to be heartrending, overly moving. They're kind of like sweet fluff that you like reading but doesn't always make a huge impression on you. This is the exception. This is (arguably) her best book in this series. What happens when you hurt the person you're supposed to love and protect above all others? Is there a point where forgiveness isn't possible?

I loved Ethan. He has such a wonderful spirit, to keep searching for his mate and to be able to forgive him. At times, he did come off as being too forgiving, but then you'd see him stand up for himself and I'd fall in love with him all over again. As for JD, I wasn't such a fan, though he did redeem himself for me near the end. He made a big deal of the alpha vs. mate debate and then easily resolved it, which was a let down. Other than that, I liked JD and while he's not my favorite character, he was so good with Ethan that he melted my heart a bit.

The story line was well done as well. It's not often you deal with badly injured werewolves (the whole heals quickly thing) so to see a case where shifting didn't solve everything was awesome. How does a strong shifter deal with being rejected, being unable to shift possibly for life, and being badly injured? It was interesting and well done and I kept reading to see what would happen next and to see the resolution, which I enjoyed. Usually everything gets fixed perfectly at the end which I'm not such a fan of, but that doesn't happen here, which I loved. The ending was perfect to me, and I wouldn't change it.

All in all, this is definitely the best book in the series, and i would highly recommend it.

2nd Read 9/2/12: This was my least favorite of the series so far. the book strayed off course. It didn't follow the same world-building rules the others books did. For instance, the mating bond was nonexistent in this story. They spent more time trying to find reasons to stay apart than trying to get together. The bond which played a major role in all the previous books played no part in this one.

Also, Ethan and Jace were too whiny. Both were constantly crying. I understand Stormy was trying to make Ethan a very sensitive man. And I love sensitive men. But it became too much once they got back together after his accident. They both were clueless morons when it came to their own species as well. Don't these werewolves go thru Mating 101 before hitting puberty? Didn't their parents teach them the birds and the bees and what to expect when they find their mates?

Also, what is with the constant napping. In every story, the weaker mate is always falling asleep during the day and the big Alpha ends up tucking them back in to bed! It's so annoying.

Also, if wolves know that their mates are chosen by Fate, not by the wolves themselves, then why do they give their members such a hard time when Fate chooses a male mate for a male member? It's not like they can help it! Some of the story lines have families disowning the "straight" guy who ends up with a male mate. And when he won't/can't give up the male mate due to the pull of the mating bond, they get angry at him. But yet, finding your mate is the greatest thing a wolf can do and once they do, they can't mate with anyone else, including having sex. I realize the author has to create drama somewhere but doing it this way is contradictory. It makes the characters seem illogical and hypocritical.

I love the whole series and can't wait to read the next book (though, I would be happier if it's not a menage, haizzz). Even though I like this book as much as others in this series, the slight inconsistency somehow threw me a little bit. Isn't it a little bit too easy for Jace to come back into Ethan's life when Ethan believes that Jace is the one who caused him his injury. Well, I find it kinda unrealistic when Ethan doesn't realize that another person than Jace beats him when he is unconscious. And if the throwing can make Ethan out cold then it's quite hard. Well, I hate all the sufferings on Ethan. He's such a sweet, innocent, cute guy!!!

Another thing I hate is how Nate and Joe act as know-it-all people. Of course, they are helping but it's annoying when they keep appearing in the story (I love to see them again but not in that disturbing way) And Nate totally changes out of his image from his own book. Haizzz.

After what seems like forever, Ethan has finally found his mate at a local bar. Jace says he is just passing through, but is everything Ethan has always dreamed of. After claiming him, Ethan wakes to find his mate gone. He searches everywhere, for months, then finally his mate shows up with a friend, but Jace is saying his name is JD, and he has no memory of ever being with Ethan.

Again, this book was a very quick, easy read. This was actually one of the more deep in the series. But, in the end, the story was still a bit lacking, and the characters only skin deep. The "love" comes too quickly, and it seems that the action bottoms out with the resolution comming without much struggle. It is fun and cute, quick read, with some steamy sceens, but nothing ultimatly special. What is unfortunate, is the set up and basic storyline is really good. It just continue to live up to what it could have been. I still enjoyed it.

*Sigh* 4.5 really sweet stars. I just love these kind of books. Not too much of the outside world interfering in the love story between Jace and Ethan. I know that the climax of a story should be like, BAM, but this didn't need that. It was wonderful in it's own quiet way.
