About the author

Laura Joffe Numeroff is the NYT best-selling author of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, What Mommies/Daddies Do Best and Raising a Hero. She was born in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Pratt Institute. Laura grew up as the youngest of three girls, surrounded by art, music, and books. An avid animal lover, Laura has always wanted to write a book about service dogs. She now lives in Los Angeles, California.

I'm probably not the best person to review board books as they always seem too simple to me and I don't have any babies/toddlers to read them with so I can't tell their reactions. But, this one is cute enough. I really don't see where it has anything in common with the other "Mouse" books story wise (except for the cute character, of course) but it's a cute little story about how Mouse goes looking around the house to find out who is leaving the eggs around the house. There's an added bonus that each time he finds eggs there is one more than the time before, so this can be used as a very early counting book, too. I think it goes up to five or six eggs.

Everyone's favorite mouse is back and this time, someone is hiding eggs around the house. As he looks, he finds eggs of all different colors, but still has no idea who's hiding them. There are hints for the readers to take a guess too. In the end, he discovers that it's Bunny!

HAPPY EASTER, MOUSE would make a great Easter gift, but it's also educational. By using the eggs, it teaches about the different colors. The word also matches the color which is even more fun. For example, the word "blue" is the color blue and so is the egg. I also love how things are to the appropriate scale for a mouse--everything is bigger than him.


Final Verdict: I would recommend this to fans of IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE, learning about colors, and Easter.

This book is part of the "If you Give" series. This series is if you give a mouse a cookie it will ask you for more and more. The series is about different animals, that are given different things, but always want more. But in this book the mouse keepings finding easter eggs all over the house. The mouse is finding different color eggs all over the house, but he cannot figure out who was putting them around the house, until he finds out it was the Easter bunny. Over the years there has been different variations of the book, like "If You Give A Pig a Pancake" "If You Give a Dog a Donut" and so many more.

This was a short, easy Holiday read. My kids enjoyed it. They both liked seeing the different colored eggs (especially since we dyed some ourselves this year), and the bunny ears peaking out behind different objects until the bunny was revealed at the end.

This book was enjoyable, and kept my kids’ attention. We enjoyed this book, and it was would definitely be a fun read around Easter every year.

I have found out that these “If you give a...” books are excellent early readers. J has read a couple of them now, and I plan to hit up the library this week for a stack of new ones. There’s something about ‘real’ books (as opposed to Bob Books or books from Phonics box sets, etc) that really gets her excited and proud of herself for what she’s read.

What a fun book! My 2 year old nephew is enthralled with this book. He helps me “read” it because each color word is printed in that color! He knows his colors so he happily calls out “blue!” Or “red!” as I point to the color word. We also have fun counting the eggs on each page. This is a hit!

There's not much of a story here, as this is just Mouse waking up to find hidden eggs and wondering who has left them. The illustrations are lovely and while you don't really have time to sit with any of them due to how short the sentences are, it's still a fun read. Just quick!
