Stories of Faith & Courage from World War II‘s first purpose is to strengthen the faith of its readers by showing the power of others’ faith under the most extreme circumstances imaginable. This is accomplished through 365 one-page stories from America’s greatest conflict presented in a daily devotional format with relevant scripture readings for each day of the year. Additionally, the book presents a unique and concise history of World War II with summaries, maps, and photographs of the major campaigns of the war. On this level, the individual stories provide insights into the war and combat not found in typical historical accounts.
Every page a different story. Many illustrations that could be used, but it is ecumenical. All were shown with a Scripture reference. However it appeared many of the Scriptures were stretched a little to fit the illustration. Some never did fit the illustration. It would be a good reference book for preachers but I suggest making a Scripture Index, and a Topical Index to make the book much easier to be referred to.
This is supposed to be read as a daily devotional book, but I had trouble putting it down.
I expected it to be full of uplifting stories of people whose faith helped them to get through the trials of WWII, but it was something quite different.
It would be an excellent primer for someone who wants a good overview of the history of the war. Each month covers a different battle or aspect of the war. January covers the European front and the front page is a map showing the major battles. The daily readings, however, are not full of battle details (except for the section on D-Day). Instead there are personal reflections from diaries, letters and speeches, which give insight into the raw emotions of those who fought.
Yes, it was inspiring, but also sobering when you read of the thousands and thousands of lives lost.
There were so many wonderful stories about the men and women who fought in WW II and how it effected the lives of all Americans. Each day was related to a verse in the Bible and how we should live and apply our lives for the Lord. I highly recommend this devotional.
This is a devotional, set up in months. I decided to read it straight through the first time. The author is a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War and a retired Marine Corps officer. The book is dedicated to the memory of two of his uncles. They were killed in action in WWII. Each month centers around a specific campaign. Each entry combines history with inspiration. There are many personal stories. Each page is nicely woven together; a WWII story sliding into a devotion passage.
Excellent record of personal stories of soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines on the battlefields of WWII, and the role that faith played in their experiences. The author places a relevant Bible verse at the end of each one page account. It's a history book and devotional all in one. Recommend for members of the armed forces, veterans, and anyone interested in military history and faith.
