I read it because I knew the author personally; Im glad I did -- a very interesting take on the meaning of Goliath's sword, taken by David after besting him in battle using a sling & stone. That forms the basis of the central drama/mystery theme of the novel, but a fun side plot was the idea of a business that makes ice cream cakes that are exact replicas of a loved one's gravestone, to offer the living a chance to subvert their anger at the death by metaphorically eating the dead.

A pleasant blend of mystery, drama, & humour, with a smattering of actual Bible facts mixed in.

Martin takes the phallic imagery of a sword to its ultimate conclusion.
