This was a reread of a book on my shelf to see if it was suitable for a friend’s teen grandchild. I remembered it being quite an exciting read 25 years ago but it appears I was remembering another of the author’s books. (‘The Case of the Vanishing Corpse’ if you want a better mystery)
Still, it is an easy, quite intriguing read with only one swear word in the whole book. I like that. It is a Christian allegory but not particularly religious at all. I like that the answers to the allegory are written back-to-front on the last page so you hold the book up to a mirror to find out, even if you did work it out pages ago.
I think the grandchild might enjoy it even with the outdated phones and local TV presenters all now retired.

The book is about an Australian radio host (talk-back), who gets entangled in one of his callers' issues, and helps to solve the crimes.
I found the book quite boring, and wouldn't have finished it, if it weren't so short anyway. First of all: It really annoys me, when I guess the main message of the story within the first 40 pages.
The characters are too black and white and not really developed.
The protagonist (Mark Roman) does a lot of thinking, but doesn't enlighten the reader about his thoughts until later, rather describes his surroundings while thinking, thinking, thinking.
It's inconceivable that the police would have been as passive as they were describe in a high profile murder case.
