A hunting party attacked. A lone survivor rescued. Turning her back on the traditions of her family and community, Rueda Cole forges a new path with the desert wanderer who saved her life. The way is fraught with danger, but the unexplainable drives them onward, even to the ends of the earth. Together, they will journey into the unknown. Together, they will bring the world into a new era. Together, they will become the stuff of legends.
I came across this book while attending a book fair in Kentucky. The beautiful cover initially caught my eye, and though this is not a genre I typically read, I decided to give it a shot. The deciding factor was the author’s description of herself on the back cover: “Georgia Day has won no awards or distinctions. She is a nobody from nowhere who writes about nightmares and the stories we tell ourselves to make it all better.” She sounded like my kind of person.
Georgia Day’s writing is superb. I marveled at how much I enjoyed reading this book, even though I knew, after reading about half of the book, that the characters weren’t really going to “bring the world into a new era” as the book description promised. I didn’t care because I was totally caught up in the adventure. This book was the embodiment of the Emerson quote, “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.” And the ending put it all together for me.
Great job, Georgia Day! Keep writing. You have a gift.
Georgia Day's Of Sand and Bone is a real treat. I'm so glad I followed my instinct and bought this book at ArmadilloCon. I was intrigued by the cover and the back copy, and I was not disappointed. It's beautifully written with gorgeous descriptive world-building and an engaging heroine. I eagerly picked it up each day when I had time to read and loved following the main characters' journey across a brutal desert in a world that might be ours -- but it might not. I loved the side characters they encountered. And the ending was beautiful and heart-felt. I wasn't sure how the author was going to wrap it all up, but she did it wonderfully. It was both surprising but it also worked. Were there things that I felt didn't work? Sure, but they did not detract from my enjoyment. I'll probably reread to pick up the things I missed the first time around. Highly recommend.
I already knew that this author is very clever and talented, so I expected a good read. What I got was a great read.
I got this book right before a cruise. I stole minutes away from activities to read it. Being on the ocean also became more and more delightfully ironic as a read on. You should pick it up to find out why as it tugs you along its well-written pages.
If you enjoy characters with depth, an amazing journey, and a bit of a mystery this is the book for you. I hope sincerely that there are more books in the future from Georgia Day.
I discovered this book when I was reading about authors who would be at a book festival I was planning to attend. The cover drew me in, so I picked up a copy. I expected a good story. What I got was a great story! This is an incredible tale of friendship and the strength of the human spirit. With unforgettable characters and a force that keeps pulling you forward, you won't be able to put it down until you have read the very last word. This is an author to keep your eye on! This feels like the beginning of something amazing!
I met Georgia at a writing conference in Austin where we instantly bonded over our shared love of deserts. I am such a sucker for stories that take place in dying worlds and Of Sand & Bone delivers that premise so well.
