This advanced word picture book will capture readers' imagination with its story of finding pirate's treasure. The facial expressions of the characters are vivid and enchanting. It all starts when Euripides the frog brings a big book of pirate tales to read to Rip Squeak, Abby and Jesse. They find a treasure map in the book and soon they are all on an adventure to find the treasure. Along the way, the friends discover that the word 'treasure' means something different to different characters. What will treasure mean to Rip Squeak, Jesse, Abbey and Euripides?

You got me with the cover! How do you capture that kind of rapt expression on animal's faces? The book is about finding adventure that starts with a book and then extends into the real world with a search for adventure with your friends, complete with putting together costumes to become pirates. Is especially enjoyed that fact that one of the characters was a little reluctant and scared but came along at the encouragement of his friend's promise that they would protect her. Not only do they find the treasure they were looking for, they discovered that treasure can be found in other forms.

Outstanding! I have two Rip Squeak books I’ve been wanting to go back and reread for a wile now. The story is simple, but really fun, lighthearted, and has a good moral. I like that the frog’s name is Euripides, as it’s old and fancy sounding and I can almost hear the word ribbit in it. The illustrations are amazing, and it would be worth the read just for that. Both the story and illustrations complement and add to each other.

I'm not sure how this ended up on our bookshelf, but the four-year-old has been very intrigued by it for the past couple days. I want to like it more than I actually do.

(Turns out the book is a sequel, maybe reading the first would add some context?)
