Victor Horta (Gante 1861-Brussels, 1947), Belgian architect, was one of the pioneers of the Art Nouveau style. His first major project, the Hotel Tassel in Brussels, revealed some of the features with which he was later to exposed iron structures for the façade, an open layout and decorative details. With his domestic architecture the interior design had a rich, elegant style also visible on the Hôtel Solvay in Brussels. Among the public buildings he undertook the Maison du Peuple, headquarters of the Belgian Socialist party, in Brussels which stands out largely due to its iron and glass façade, and iron roof beams.
