You’ve reached the Goodreads author page of Katherine Miller – but you can call me Kathy. I’m a writer, editor, mother, sister, daughter, and friend who after 30 years in academia is embarking on career 2.0 as an author of creative nonfiction and historical fiction. I've written several academic textbooks (with a confusing number of editions!) and a book based on my father's letters home during WWII that puts the experiences of growing up in battle in both historical and sociological context. I now live in the Minneapolis area with sister cats Molly and Friggly.

I didn't think this book was written very well until I did more research in the area. This is just the way organizational communication research is written. This is a pretty good overview. There are some interesting ideas, but in the end it's still a textbook.

first book of grad school ✅
i actually really liked this one. between the actual divestment of knowledge and the roasting of elon musk—i have to give them their stars! i actually did enjoy learning about this topic. granted the ability to follow along to narration at times ameliorated the tedious nature all textbooks come with, but overall i think it was really relevant to structures today! and i felt like my brain absorbed it well in comparison to other bleak academic works.

I made it. I finished! First it's hard to follow, but once you get into it, it's fine. Full with jargons, but comparing with other authors (Karl Weick for example) it's a walk in the park!

I thought this book was informative without becoming too dry. I would recommend this book as an introduction to starting to unpack organizational culture, practices, and communication!

Aika palikka kirja organisaatioviestinnästä. Lähteet eivät juuri keskustelleet keskenään ja tuntui, että lähes kaikille teorioille annettiin yhtäläinen painoarvo, vaikka selkeästi jotkut ovat jo akateemisessa tutkimuksessa vanhentuneita. Vain satunnaisesti päästiin pintaa syvemmälle tutkimukseen.

Horrible book....to wordy for a text book. I felt like I needed a dictionary to read the book or another book to explain the book.
