If you have read my review on the first volume to this series, you know what to expect from this one. Though the featured matches are ones that, if you have watched the show you know what to expect, the manner which they are executed were well done. New cards and changes to key events makes these familiar scenes fill with excitement at what will come next. If you are hoping to see the same content from the show in comic form, then you will be disappointed. This series has plenty of changes to keep it interesting, but might disappoint readers who want to see specific content from the show return in the manga. This volume has extra comics and some sketches that makes buying the second volume worth the purchase in my opinion.

My fiance' is pretty obsessive about both the Beyblade and Future Card Buddyfight anime series. He has Vol. 01-Vol. 04 and Vol. 06 of FCBF, and has been begging me to read it for practically forever. Finally, he agreed to read some manga series that I enjoy, like Alice in the Country of Hearts, so I gave in and started reading this series. I will eventually read Vol.1 as well, but right now, he's scanning that one in to make digital copies.

Gao Mikado is your classic children's TCG-based anime/manga protagonist - an elementary student that wants to "be the best like no-one ever was". But, of course, once said kid enters, the best is all they ever are. They never lose - or, at least, not till in the second or third season of the anime (which is much later in the manga as well). He always comes within a centimeter of losing, then pulls some miraculous "ultimate move" out of thin air to win the match.

Is that annoying? Heck, yes, it is! But, you get used to it after a couple volumes, and realize that losing is not something that is going to happen to him anytime soon.

Still, if you believe that Friendship is Magic, you'll probably enjoy this series, as the theme of friendship is quite abundant amongst Gao and his "buddy" dragon, Drum, throughout the series. Friendship like that is hard to come by amongst people, so it's a beautiful thing.

There is a nice balance of action and friendship in this series, and the action scenes are well done. It is fast-paced and all the moves are explained well with pictures that detail the card(s) used, the name(s) of the attack(s) used and the damage/gift(s) dealt when using them. I appreciated that detail myself, as I knew very little about this series going in to it.

I do feel like the storyline could get better as it goes along, and I did enjoy Vol. 03 more. I will also probably be reading the rest of the volumes my fiance' owns at a later date.
