IT HAS BEEN ALMOST a year since the Subversives and the remaining Poor population settled in Detroit, and the city is preparing for the annual Summer Solstice Festival to celebrate the start of a brand new season. The Subversives and their families have finally moved past their struggles in D.C. and are cherishing their time in a city that offers more opportunities for newfound freedom and happiness.
However, during the Festival, an unknown force led by a mystifying individual hijacks and commands the city with a relentless iron fist. The Subversives, who have resigned from their roles after several months of peacetime, must rejoin and combine their forces with Detroit’s military to reclaim their land and avoid a disastrous war.
In the second installment of this action-packed dystopian trilogy, you will read from Blaire and Jax’s point-of-view as they navigate brutal waters, shocking and interwoven secrets, an unavoidable romance, and underlying circumstances that might lead to ultimate devastation.
Ruhi Parikh is a young adult Indian-American author attending Virginia Tech as a Creative Writing and PTW double major. She has loved to write ever since she was five years old, and she intends to keep on writing in the hopes of inspiring many people like her to create wonderful stories as well. When she is not writing, you can expect her to be either watching Netflix in bed, going for a long walk/car ride, or spending time with beloved friends and family.
Ruhi has a writers mind which is clear because the plot came together better in this book and the ending actually interested me which is more than I can say for the last one. I have been a fan for quite some time as I really admire her for writing and releasing books so young, but her Subversion trilogy is seeming a lot to me like a book that wasn't ready to be published by any stretch. The plot is basically just the class divide (which exists in the real world!) and the characters are just tokenistic stereotypes of the girl boss and the bad boy that isn't actually bad but just has a hard past and an attitude problem- it's been done before. I don't like how the book feels written in tropes that are popular and not what works- like the spicy scene that was hard to read because it felt so forced. The characters speak like robots not like people. There were countless paragraphs of them simply saying things for the sake of speaking like 'you got this, we believe in you'- it felt half-baked and irrelevant. It was even hard to finish until it got to the end. I knew this book wasn't going to be great when I watched Ruhi write it on her TikTok and was honestly shocked by how she started and put a whole book together in less than a year, editing and reviewing all included. No book should be finished in that little time, which was worrying to me. There was also a startlingly obvious grammar mistake in the blurb. I've also noticed how I am a minority of people who actually bought the book as most of the reviews are ARC readers which confuses me that they mostly gave it five stars- not in a rude way, but I genuinely didn't see this book as even close to that in any way. I don't regret buying this book because it was only five quid but I don't think it was worth it. It's honestly a shame because I was a fan of Ruhi, as I said before, but I'm not a fan of this TikTok trend where young writers self-publish books that never would have gotten through agents because they simply aren't ready. It feels like a discredit to the industry and to the teen authors themselves. I don't think I'll be reading the last book simply because I'm not really connected to the characters that much as they are simply half-baked caricatures with trauma latched on and devoid of personalities and I don't see this premise taking that drastic of a turn that I haven't already seen in the divergent or the hunger games. Sorry Ruhi, I hope this was constructive and wish you all the best for the future!
W. O. W. RUHI DOES IT ONCE AGAINNNN!!!!! I just finished me ARC copy of Conversion and oh my goodness gracious I’m DYINGGGGGG ITS SO GOOD!! One thing I especially loved was Blaire and Jax! The way their relationship is so realistic makes it that much easier to connect with them. Also, the dual POVS were awesome! I LOVED seeing what was going on in Jax’s head as well! It really made me love him even more than I already did! And I have to say, Ruhi, the writing in this is MWAH!! Much improved! While I enjoyed the first one, this definitely takes the cake on my list! It truly felt like I was in the story with them and feeling the same feelings they were. I have to state the obvious here…THE ENDING WHAT??? RUHI I SOBBED WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO ME?!?!!!!? Between the death of Blaire’s parents and her ending things with Jax, I am FAR from okay. And I probably won’t be for a LONG TIME. I mean, I knew there was going to be a major plot twist, but I was NOT expecting that. As a fellow teen writer who dreams of being an author one day, you’re such an inspiration of mine and I love seeing you grow as a writer!! Thanks so much again for this opportunity! I know everyone will love this book as much as I did!!

I'm just going to get right to the point: I CANNOT believe I just published two books in a year. Holy shit. And I certainly cannot believe so many people want to read the sequel. Your support means so much to me, and I cannot wait for the third book to come out (once I write the damn thing). It's gonna be SO amazing, I will tell you guys that!
But as of now, I really hope you guys enjoy this book, which I gloriously wrote during my senior year of high school. There will be moments where you will laugh, smile, cry (emphasis on the crying), but in the end, I really do hope you like it.
I was kindly sent an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Ruhi did it again
This book will make you feel happiness, anger and… sadness. I am absolutely heartbroken with the way this book ended. I didn’t want it to end.
It’s a page turner. You will not want to put the book down. It’s action packed and you learn so much about the characters. There is almost never nothing happening and this book never get boring. It can be frustrating at times with what is happening, but it’s always worth the while.
The writing in this book was significantly better than the first. You can truly see the talent Ruhi has for writing and bringing a story to life. This series is a must read.
Conversion starts off with our Subversives living as happily and normal as they can in Detroit. They all are helping out with the refugees or with whatever may be needed. It was nice to see them happy and living a somewhat normal life for even just a little bit.
That is until hell rains down upon them.
A new threat is brought on in Detroit. Many die, things are revealed and new characters are brought in that you will learn to love. Doing everything in their power to help the city, training every day, Jax and Blaire still find time to love each other. Their relationship is not something you want to miss.
It even gets a little steamy between them 😏
Jax’s POV gives an open door view to his thoughts and actions. My love only grew for him once I got to see who he was and it was at an all time high at the end. I feel bad for Jax with everything he went through in this book and I hope we get to see him happy and no longer struggling with nightmares in the last book.
Blaire is determined and strong. She always found a reason to keep going, too keep fighting. But now, almost every single one of those reasons were taken from her. I am very eager to see how things go for her in the next book. It was clear how she was feeling in the end and it pains me to see her in so much pain with so much hatred towards herself.
The characters we have come to love open up a lot about their feelings in this book. We see how hurt and broken they are. Nevertheless, the others are always there to comfort them and help them through it all. Even if they don’t want the help that is offered to them.
The way Mallory has been acting throughout this book is somewhat worrying. It’s obvious that she has love for Jax in more than just a friendship way but, honestly, she’s been more quiet and distant this book. Even if it just a little bit, I noticed it. She went through something traumatic in the beginning and that was just horrible. And now she has to live with all that woman has done to her, her friends and the city they called home for months.
Shall we talk about AJ for a moment ?? I love and live for him. He doesn’t beat Jax, however, I love his cockiness. I really do hope to see more of him in the next book and he is there to the end. Most of all, I hope he can find happiness once more.
The peridot necklace. I smiled so hard when it came to be. And cried when it was no longer and what came with chapters 52 and 53. It’ll be back. I hope it will.
It really is a sad ending. I cried for the last eight chapters of the book. It’s an unforgivable pain that is brought onto you and, now, I just worry for the characters that were close to the ones we lost.
The happy family moments make up for some of it. Jeremiah and his family are the cutest. I loved seeing them together and the joy it brought Jeremiah to have them back.
Then Blaire, Nico, Em and their parents ??? They finally all got to be a family again after the time Nico was gone in D.C. They all really loved each other and would do anything for one another. It was nothing but love between them….
Overall, 5 stars. I’m definitely going to be rereading Subversion and Conversion before the next book. And I am looking forward to doing so. I love these characters so much and I can’t wait to be with them again. I miss them already.
The song “The Other Side” by Ruelle reminds me of this song.
I just finished my ARC copy and when I tell you I AM SCREAMING!!!!! I especially LOVED being able to see both Blaire and Jax's thought with the dual POV. Being able to see Jax's inner thoughts and feeling completely changed my entire view of him, and helped me see he is so much more complex than what we were able to see in the first book. And I loved being able to see more of Blaire and Jax's relationship in this book, it was like the cherry on top. The writing in this book was so visceral, it was as if I could feel every emotion the characters were feeling. And when I tell you the ending had me on the verge of SOBBING!!! I need the third book like yesterday! I can't wait to see what happens in the third book, and Ruhi, I am so proud of you!!! And to anyone reading this review, be ready to have your heart torn out in the best way possible.
Love!! The author’s writing 100% got better. I love seeing Jax’s thoughts!! Can’t wait for more from this author!! The ending definitely shocked me and got me in my feelings😂😂But I felt really connected to Blaire. Also had a little bit of spice
first off I want to say thank you Ruhi for sending me your book!! i am truly and forever grateful to be receiving this! here is the long overdue review 💞
this was AMAZING i’m speechless honestly words have left me! It’s been so hard to find a good dystopian series after reading the best ones out there but this one hit the spot!! if you haven’t read Subversion you need too because the sequel is mind blowing.
one thing i loved was the portrayal of feminine rage! idk if it was done on purpose or not but Blaire Cohen is such a good character and that ending made me violently sob yeahh
okay so since book one i have been rooting for Blaire and Jax and it finally happened i couldn’t stop giggling because they’re so cute and ughh. The emotions I felt reading this book were surreal and it kept going, i don’t think there was one dull moment. These poor characters if they don’t get their HEA in the third book i might cry but honestly? i had such a fun time reading this the plot twists kept coming which a lot of them killed me but honestly? worth every second!!
most of the book i was like why are y’all not pulling the trigger on Veronica? easy peasy finito but no the idiot is still alive she better 💀 in the next book
if you were part of the 2010 dystopian era and are looking for a book with the same feeling? pleasee read Subversion Ruhi’s first book!! 🫶🏻
I was sent an ARC copy of this book and I was not expecting to be full on sobbing by the last few chapters- like I genuinely had to take a break from the book because when Ruhi said the ending was sad I didn't expect *THIS* (also I am trying my best not to include spoilers)
I loved Blaire and Jax's relationship in the begining i really felt like they were developing more compared to the last book and I loved to see it (like I was quite literally screaming at their little moments) and I truly feel so bad for Jax for everything that he is going through :( I am glad that he was more focused on in this book tho but that ending....I wasn't expecting that- like someone ask me if I am okay. because I am everything BUT okay. and then add the stuff with Blaire's parents and I am utterly destroyed.
The writing in this book is so good that I truly felt like I was a part of their group which just made the ending that much more painful (I don't even know if that is correct grammar please bear with me)
I really just want them all to be happy and together and I need the third book like yesterday because everytime I think about them I just want to break down sobbing. for anyone who hasn't read it yet, I hope you have an entire box of tissues next to you and don't have any plans for the rest of the day.
first of all congratulations on publishing a SECOND book in just less than a year! i have to say this was such an upgrade from the last one. the writing had improved really well and the flow of the story was chef kiss AND THE ENDING????!! the twist, the heartbreak, the obstacles - outstanding.
though i believe there could be some more improvements for the next book:
for example, i find it a bit dragging when it comes to a character explaining in such long sentences when they "talk". there were quite a lot of paragraphs which felt a bit too unnecessary (for me😅) or maybe because i was reading from an eBook which felt like it was going on and on.
honestly that's kindda it for me. i LOVED this book and i gasped alot😭 especially that part when Jax and Blaire were holding each other lovey dovey and suddenly there were explosions and shi, i lowkey wasn't expecting it. i loved how it was fast paced throughout the story and GIRL THE SPICY SCENES HEHE. ❤️
the fact that there's a third book coming makes me 🤯 bc wow it shows that you've got a lot of ideas more to add to this series. this was a great read! and goodluck for the next one:)

I was kindly sent an ARC copy of Conversion in exchange for an honest review! Thank you so much to Ruhi for being so kind as to send me a copy!
This book is most definitely a five-star read. It kept me on my toes the entire time and was such a page-turner!
The writing, the plot, the character depth, and literally everything else were such an improvement to the first book. The writing is such an improvement in terms of vocabulary and structure but was also very easy to read and understand. The plot was well developed and flowed smoothly. There were not any plot holes and everything connected together. The characters were so well developed and felt like their own person (I remember in Subversion, I had a bit of trouble distinguishing the characters and telling them apart from each other because they were all too similar). Each character was so distinguishable! Overall, I felt like I was actually in the book with the characters.
The story was action-packed and so interesting that I finished it within two days (That is incredibly fast for me!) And that ending? I am now broken beyond repair. I definitely recommend this series to anyone looking for an amazing dystopian read.
The book was a rollercoaster, and I cannot wait for it to come out and for the trilogy to be complete when the third book comes out!
Ahh Ruhi!! Thank you SO much for sending me an ARC before the official release! You can absolutely tell her writing has gotten much better in this book! I'd just like to start off by saying, Ruhi, what you've done is so impressive and I'm so proud of you! That being said, here's my review! I like the premise of the book, I really do! I think I would've enjoyed it a bit more if I could differentiate who was talking, though. I couldn't tell the difference between Jax and Blaire. Maybe that was my own issue, too, I'm not sure. I like the diverse spectrum of people in these books too, honestly. I just really have trouble reading these people as, well, people. They sometimes sound robotic. I remember Vi having personality in the last book, but she sort of lost it in this one. Thatcher and Nico, I think, are the characters with the most character, and btw! I really really REALLY like Thatcher! Her development was gorgeous! There was also a lot of filler conversation of just straight reassurance, and it got kind of hard to read after a while. There were also a lot of words I never really understood? "Adamant" and "resound" were used a lot, and "ambiguous" or something like that. Maybe "amorphous"? I'm really not sure, and maybe I'm just stupid lol, but I didn't really get them? Or I got them mixed up sometimes. But those were really the only words I got lost in! BUT that being said, THAT ENDING? YES RUHI!! The emotion in the end, the death, the pain, ALL OF IT. WAS SO GOOD. You definitely upped your game there! I read through the ending so fast and just wanted more!! The only reason I rated it three stars was because I struggled a bit in reading it and connecting to real people, but other than that, the book was very, very good! Thank you, Ruhi!
