In 1861, Clarissa Montgomery was beside herself with grief as her husband, Charles, prepared to enlist in the Confederate Army. Raised by her Cajun grandmother in the bayous of Louisiana, Clarissa had learned the art of black magic, spells and incantations, though never really did believe in its power. But when she could not talk Charles out of going off to war, she resorted to the next best thing-she cast a spell to keep them all safe. Little could she have known the ramifications the frivolous little rhyme she just made up on the spur of the moment would have on their lives.

One of the first things that struck me while reading "Spellbound" by Ann Charlotte, was the lingua. It seemed like a part of "Harriet" that we did not get to see in the movie. The story starts as the coming-of-age of Clarissa Margueretta Fontaine, who meets the love of her life, Charles Montgomery, and together, they begin a beautiful family life. In the 1800s, which the story is set in, war breaks out and their love dies to blossom again 200 years later as a woman and a ghost-lover. This story is not a typical love story, and it caught me in a swirl of emotions as I read from chapter to chapter.

I loved the story particularly because of how detailed the author was. It seemed so alive and almost completely realistic. I enjoyed reading the handwritten letters. I loved the balance between mystery, magic, and love. My favorite parts, though, were the scenes where Charles, hidden from human eyes, protected Claire from danger and a certain intending suitor.

What I disliked about the story was the idea of a widowed woman falling in love with a ghost, and her children somehow being his own. As I read through the book, there was a part of me that was struggling to accept the entire concept of the story. I, however, compliment the writer's excellence in writing with no grammatical or spelling errors.

I do not think that this book is for the simple mind. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading mysteries and wouldn't mind the idea of a woman rekindling love with a 200-year-old ghost.

The novel follows Clarissa, a young woman who falls in love with Charles Montgomery and marries him. They have children, Willian and Margaret. Clarissa learns about slavery and helps a vulnerable family during a conflict. Charles is adamant on serving his country, but Clarissa uses her magical abilities to bring them back together.

Clarissa and her children become victims of street violence, and Charles seeks revenge for their deaths. Clarissa moves to a house owned by Charles and Clarissa, which has an unusual link between the city, streets, and the house. She discovers a connection between Charles and Clarissa through evidence and her own recollection.

The novel explores themes of Clarissa's relationship with Charles, the specter Charles returning to his dwelling, and the possibility of casting spells. The plot, characters, connections, and reincarnation are commendable, with a seamless transition between the reborn protagonists' prior lives and their present selves. The narration and editing are excellent, making it an excellent read for those who enjoy fantastic romances, reincarnation stories, and fantasy.

Spellbound" by Ann Charlotte is a captivating fiction book that explores Claire LePaige's journey as a widowed photography journalist. She discovers a mysterious house that evokes a strange feeling of being watched, leading her into a century-old past life. Despite a slow start, the book becomes an amazing page-turner with a unique romance and a mystery that keeps you engaged. The author's vivid descriptions make the story come alive. Highly recommended for fiction lovers with a taste for mystery!

Not a huge historical reader but this story weaves history and culture in a great read. This is a new author to me and it's fun to take on a new author and hear their voice in the story. The characters and locations were well developed and described so it was easy to visualize as you read the story and I loved the premise. Excellent read.

I met Ann Charlotte at a few local festivals and sought her out to ensure my purchase of her book materialized into a donation instead of simply ordering off Amazon. An interesting tidbit about this author is that she is very talented in several areas. She makes and sells several different crafts and fundraises for several charities such as St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Breast Cancer Awareness, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Animal Rescue Organizations. It really speaks volumes about an author when I see them using their craft to give back to those in need. Kudos to you, Miss Charlotte!

As for the book, it was actually pretty intriguing. There was a lot of foundation to lay in the beginning, and at first it was a little bit confusing, but the I was is able to swiftly move passed it and delve into the storyline. The plot was filled with mystery, history, and she even threw in a little romance.

In terms of technicality, I thought Ann wrote very well. There were times that her sentence structure seemed a bit wordy or "fluffed," but the content was very rich and kept me interested. The only other thing I would complain about is the cover. I can understand the intention with the blurry image within the frame, but it's so hard on the eyes that I actually feel frustrated looking at it. I would probably rethink the cover.

A good book and an interesting read.

I bought this book from the self-published author. It took me awhile to connect with the book. It started slow. Then when I finally got into it I enjoyed the journey between the worlds.
