A surprise gem from the library for homeschool history read aloud. Balanced, researched and simple, with a well written storyline. It's hard to find (nonfiction library) books that aren't either dry as dust or trite graphics collages of 'cool facts'. This book got my seven year old inspired about navigation technique and geography as we saw how Amerigo used them to figure out the existence of a new continent.
