I had to read sections of this book for a research project I was working on recently, and so enjoyed Sheean's writing that I had to dig up on old copy on amazon.com so I could read the whole thing. It's a fantastic account of the life of a foreign correspondent and the political events of the 1920s and '30s, told by a journalist who witnessed them first hand.
This is one of the best memoirs or histories I've ever read. He writes in a prose as compelling as a top-rate novelist and with such honesty and detail that he brings to life the moments he experienced vividly. The book is out of print, but you can still find used copies. It was a best-seller the year it came out in 1935.

I highly recommend it. Sheean's own story interwoven with the events of the revolutions and political upheavals that marked the inter-war period is fascinating, educational and completely enjoyable.

The final chapter might be one of the most insightful I've read in awhile

This journalist wrote a series of gripping stories about his journeys in the 1920’s and pre-WWII to Europe, Israel, Africa. He details meeting Mme. Sun Yat-Sen, and his admiration of Rayna Prohme, an American woman who arranged Mme Yat-Sen’s escape from China. He was deeply in love with Prohme- with the background of WWII developing, this book has embedded itself as one of my dearly beloved books.
