Truly inspiring and totally gut churning. This is a very vivid account of D-Day from dozens of perspectives, Allied and not, paratroopers, pilots, sailors, ground troops, famous officers, everyday soldiers and civilians. Their descriptions of that day are very matter of fact. They don't whisper over the fact that a few of their mates didn't make it. They honour their memory by reliving their final acts in great detail and also explain that fraction of a second or foot to the right or the left that meant they made it home instead of the next bloke.

A perfect companion for walking the D-Day beaches. Was reading it during the D-Day 70 celebrations and made the experience real. I even met some of the people from the book which was a surprise.
