Easy part of his day? Resurrecting the dead. Hard part? Keeping them alive.

Kaede is a witch whose family has been bound to a powerful House for over a thousand years. And he hates it. Despite the fact that his lord, Tarou, murdered his mother, Kaede is sworn never to harm the man who could kill him with just seven words. Now he’s been commanded to use his unique powers to resurrect Tarou’s wife from the dead, and he has no choice but to comply. Things go horribly wrong when he accidentally pulls the wrong soul back. Now it’s not just his own life he must try to save.

Vara’s day couldn’t get much more bizarre. One moment she’s a captain in the Temple Guard. The next, she finds herself transported into a world of magic and witches—and stuffed into the body of a lord’s wife. Unwillingly plunged into middle of a deadly power struggle, the only one Vara can turn to is Kaede, the witch responsible for dragging her into this alien world. A witch she finds far too attractive…

Kaede is a witch whose family has been indentured to the ruling family for generations, Kaede and his family have had a unique power they can raise the dead. Vara is the head of the guard for a temple, a position she is fiercely proud of. The man who owns Kaede wants him to raise the body of his wife, who has died trying to perform magic herself. While Kaede can raise the dead, he can not often keep them alive, but to fail will bring about his own death, at the hands of this man, the man who also killed his mother, and whom he has sworn not to kill. But when Kaede performs the ritual it is Vara who returns in the dead lords wife's body and it seems all chaos is about to break loose. A very uneven book, the story doesn't flow well and leaves more questions unanswered than answered and the mechanics are contrived, there was a lot of promise in the story but it wasn't very well developed, mercifully it was a short book.

Not your typical magical fantasy. The hero is an omega with necromantic tendencies, and the heroine a female warrior trapped in the body of docile Lady. The author's weakness in clearly explaining her convoluted scenarios unfortunately comes through in this at the end, but it's too interesting of a read not to overlook that. A welcome break from more traditional stories.

At times I found this book a difficult to follow. I don't know if there is a work that precedes this one, I'll have to check.

Interesting premise but felt rushed and it was very confusing to read.
