I filed this one under both yaoi and non-yaoi because of the very last two pages of this volume - they were also unfortunately the most interesting part of the whole story. This manga series didn't end with a bang but with a whimper and I feel kind of cheated. I expected something huge but what we got was a quick solution that didn't make any sense at all. Oh well, at least the drawings are cute.

And so the series ended.

When I encountered this comic ages ago in a random shoujo manga I found for sale nearly twenty years ago in a run down used bookstore in Provo, Utah, I somehow imagined the story was an epic tale of greatness that I was missing out on because I didn't speak the language. Now I know that the art was indeed epic and beautiful, but the story feels as if it was made up as it went along.

In a sequence of swirly lines and swooshing graphics we learned that faith exists outside the gods who people place their faith in and POOF the gods go back to their happy metaphysical existence. Or something. And everyone else returned to their previous life, mostly unchanged by their experience. And Ouri got a gay kiss. The end.

I expected so much more. At least the art never failed to entertain. For that I am very grateful. As for the story, I've read much, much worse, but for me this one missed its mark.
