Black Bird, Volume 5 by Kanoko Sakurakouji continues the intriguing and mysterious story of the tengus.

I really hope more information comes out soon about the Senka Maiden. It is getting a little annoying hearing the 'don't do this or else...' line. Just tell us what's gonna happen or find something else in the plot to focus on.

I am glad that Kyo's brother is beginning introduced. That will bring in more drama and interesting plot lines for the books. Misao and Kyo's relationship needs to develop a little bit more. I'm hoping this book speeds it up a bit! Luckily, I feel like this volume is a step up from the first couple that weren't grabbing my interest. Add in the incredible manga illustrations and you've got a story headed in the right direction.

Three out of five stars.

Is anyone else just ready for them to have sex and get it over with? Nope, just me? Well the “they can’t have sex because we don’t know what will happen” is getting on my nerves. There’s only so far you can stretch a will they or won’t they situation.

Character-wise Misao is still hella gullible and a bit predictable. Even though I complained about them not doing the deed, I do love every single interaction between Misao and Kyo!

I hope that the conflict with his brother gets resolved in the next volume!

The theme of this one is "the straights are not okay" and honestly? It's kind of boring me. I'm starting to remember why I didn't keep up with this series when this first came out.

Don't what else to say. Was it weird? Yeah. Creepy? Yeah. And yet I want to see where the story goes honestly. There are moments where its interesting.

I feel like essentially nothing happened in this volume, yet I was still mildly offended. Interesting. The saga of Cori reading a manga she dislikes will continue after these messages...

The dramatic tension was really racheted-up a notch with this volume, along with the pressure placed on Kyo to wed and bed (emphasis on the later) Misao. Kyo agrees to take Misao back home to his village with him, even though they both understand that if they do not fulfill the prophetic "joining" than Kyo could be removed from his position as Lord of the Tengu and replaced with his traitorous (and probably insane) older brother Sho. In an attempt to thwart this, the Eight Daitengu (sort of a bodyguard for Kyo) and Kyo devise a plan to reveal Sho as the insane (and thus completely unsuitable candidate for clan leadership). However, it doesn't go as planned, leaving both Misao and the entire Tengu Clan in mortal peril!

*** I greatly enjoyed this volume, the cliff-hanger ending forced me to immediately move on to Volume 6! The tension, both personal and professional (the rivalry for the position as a sort of CEO of the Tengu Clan is similar) for Kyo and Misao was very well-written. I really liked that though their relationship was a focal point of the story, it really wasn't in the forefront of the volume. The political machinations of Kyo and the Eight Daitengu against Sho was awesome! Also, Sagami's wife, is hilarious in her response to Sagami's return to the village (along with everyone's response to the scene, "Look up!")

*** The humor was another strong point to this volume.

In my review of the previous volume, I mentioned that I had forgotten about Kyo's bodyguards in a break between readings, because they were basically background scenery. This volume focuses on Sagami, as Misao and Kyo visit the patriarch of Kyo's family. We also meet Ayame, Sagami's wife, who lives in the family compound. Ayame is very cute... but Sagami still has no discernable personality even after getting some time in the spotlight. Too bad!

The end of this volume could all-too-easily lead into a sexual assault sequence, and I'm hoping that Sakurakoji handles it differently than that. She's subverted expectations a couple times when it comes to certain melodrama tropes, so we'll see.

The central couple continues to be quite sweet to each other, expressing their devotion in corny lines that I find touching anyway. I really do feel like they'll get beyond their weird, scary circumstances and have their happy ending. I'm growing fonder of this series as it goes along, but it's still not quite impactful enough to get that elusive fourth star. Three stars means "I liked it," and I do!

I really enjoyed this volume of the Blackbird series! It was maybe more romantic than the others.

I read it for a few readathons. They were.

The Cardcaptor-a-thon - The Maze - A challenging spirit - Read a book with a puzzle or a quest - in the Blackbird series the one of the main quests/plot points is protecting the lead female character from other men that might want to impregnate her. In this volume Misao and Kyo go to Kyo’s home town to make progress in making sure it’s Kyo who does the deed, and not another family member. Misao is the Senna Maiden, which is special in this world and will bring prosperity to the clan she chooses.

Reading Rivalry - A book featuring a quest - basically the same as the Cardcaptor-a-thon prompt above.

FFS - The theme for December is Ticket To Ride and this book was my second read of December. We have to link books. The first book I read in December was The Night Circus, which has a black, white and red spine like this volume of Blackbird. That’s the way I’m linking it.

PopSugar Reading Challenge 2019 - A book featuring ghosts - they really don’t play a role at all but there are ghosts drawn on the page, as this is a manga so it works :)!

OWLS Magical Readathon - Winter edition - Read a book with an orange cover. There are orangey pink flowers on the cover.

This manga series DOES have mature or adult themes of sex and violence and both of these feature in volume 5. The sex scenes aren’t exactly played out on the page but they’re still brought up.

In volume 5 we see Misao wanting to become Kyo’s bride to save his clan. This is really where the main story of the series begins I feel, as in the previous volumes we are just being introduced to the characters. Volume 5 is where Misao finally understands her role in Kyo’s clan. This is why I gave this volume 5 stars because it’s where the story really starts. Does this shock her, and is she willing to do it? You’ll have to read to find out...

Black Bird, Volume 5 delves into the private life of Sagami by introducing his ailing wife, Ayame, who also happens to be Kyo's cousin. Pleas from home and Ayame's health create concern for Kyo and his vassals. Meanwhile, tensions are high with the Senka Roku having gone missing, causing the Tengu Clan to feel desperate for Misao to quickly become the Tengu bride.

Kyo and his Daitengu take Misao to their homeland to introduce her to their clan and to appease the clan's patriarch. However, their secret objective is to destroy the major threat to Kyo's leadership, which will hopefully give Kyo and Misao the peace they yearn for.

The action has slowed down in this volume, but it seems there is a traitor in the midst. I assume with the cliffhanger ending there will be some good action to come when our little damsel in distress needs rescuing...again.

I can't get enough of the triplets. They're so freakin' adorable. I just want to squish them. There are some funny moments in this volume, but for the most part the tone is pretty serious. I did love the part where Misao is talking about eliminating someone's manhood and the Tengu's reactions were priceless.

I hope the next volume picks up with more excitement.

It’s pretty frustrating that I still don’t know exactly what kind of catastrophe is supposed to come about if Kyo and Misao are intimate more than once. It’s a weird concept and I think it’s kind of a silly one, honestly. It’s hard for me to just brush it aside and say it will work out in the end though because manga sometimes doesn’t end quite the way I want it to. I’ve still got a little ways to go though.

I wasn’t very interested in this one. It focused a little on Sagami and his romantic issues. I wasn’t terribly interested in that. It was another tragic story of why they can’t be together forever. It’s a popular theme in this series. Things got better when they went to Kyo’s village. There was a sense of things moving forward in the overall plot at that point. The ending was perfect and I’m dying to know what will happen next to Misao.

**Loved** the castration joke. One of the best parts of the series is when the author makes fun of obvious alternate solutions or plot holes.

The trouble with this volume is an awkward narrative flow leading to confusion about what's happening.

Possibly something's lost in the translation in the final scene, because it really doesn't make sense. The heroine wants to visit the hero's grandfather (who's been pressuring for a consummation) to declare her intention to marry his grandson and ask for more time. "If he won't agree or if I am unable to see him, I know it's dangerous, but I will go and be a decoy. This is the only way we can end it quickly." What does this even mean, "will go and be a decoy so we can end it quickly"? A decoy for what? End what quickly? All I got out of "quickly" was that she promised her mom she'd be home the next day.

If you're going to have a stupid conflict that places a ridiculous value on the (female) main character's virginity (which is problematic and arguably misogynist), at least have that conflict pretend to make sense in-universe. If I can solve all of your characters' problems with a simple measure, your plot is flawed and you need to rethink it or at least give some justification for why it wouldn't work.

It seems that the Tengu clan are getting impatient with the sluggish progression of the main characters. I myself though am happy that there hasn't been any progression. Most manga falls prey to this personal moral breach.
Anyhow it's the Christmas volume, and there is a bit of slapstick that is starting to make me warm to the supporting characters. I do like Sakurakouji's style; though I would like if she worked on her backgrounds and soft filler panels. Something about shojo filler panels just grinds my gears indefinitely. I know that they use them to build the anticipation of the romance, but there has to be a point where some of them are cut out.
Okay the mini-rant is over; carry on!

Like, the fascinating thing about this volume (or was it 4?) Misao suggests sleeping together once just to get the clan off her ass and Kyo flips shit because you know, all the physical things in the relationship must be on the pretty boy's terms. I swear this relationship is a textbook case of abuse, but at least the artwork is pretty so there's something.

The sexiness ramps up in this volume, but, for reasons undisclosed, they can't go all the way. I feel like they're maybe using too narrow a view of "sex," here, especially for inexperienced teens. Regardless, both sides are angsting about it. There's more behind-the-scenes plotting, and a visit to the tengu's ancestral home.

Possibly one of the most important volumes of Black Bird. Misao comes to Kyo's home over the mountains. Things don't go exactly as everyone planed and the cliffhanger will leave Misao in a very frightening predicament. Black Bird fans can't afford to miss this one.

Opinión completa---http://bit.ly/2sIXh1y

description

The plot is darker in this volume more focused on all the things standing between Misao and Kyo as well as the peril they are both in unless Kyo gives in and makes her his bride. I like that Misao is still stronger and not willing to sit back and let everything unfold without her. Also the ust in this volume was *chef's kiss*

When it comes to romance for young girls, you'll tend to find some popular series that portray very unhealthy relationships that are glossed over and glamorized as normal and acceptable.

Black Bird is one of those series.

There really isn't a plot in this story nor is there any character development within this manga series. Black Bird is about the head of the Tengu clan named Kyo trying to kill anyone who gets in between him and Misao who happens to be this 'Holy Fruit' just so he can sleep with her.

I wouldn't have a problem with this series if Kyo wasn't a controlling, abusive, sex fiend. He touches her when she doesn't want to be touched, makes snide remarks about sleeping with her and is a dominating control freak.

One example is when she is taking a bath and he gives her his clothes because he 'doesn't want her to wear clothes of another man.'

Other examples are when she has her mind on something other than him he 'punishes' her by kissing her and doing what he pleases with her even when she protests.

There are times when she is unconscious and he is kissing her naked body. Folks, if the person is, any way, unable to verbally and mentally give consent, then that's sexual assault.

What's horrible about his whole thing is that it's attempting to be cute and funny when it's not. It's not cute, funny, or romantic when a man makes a woman uncomfortable by touching her when she does not want to be touched.

I did give Misao credit because she doesn't love him at first and wants nothing to do with him even though he is handsome. One thing is that she believes that he doesn't want her for who she is but because she is this 'Holy Fruit' and she has every right to believe that. She has enough brains to slap him, kick his knee, or push him away when she says no every time he advances on her.

The problem with her as the series continues is that she falls in love with him. This is dangerous because this behavior creates societal expectations for men and women. It causes men to think that women say 'no' but never mean it. It's dangerous for women, who actually don't want to be in a relationship because they get unwanted attention with stalking and constant pressure (from men and the rest of society) into saying yes. And can you blame them? After endless, nonstop attempts, of course she's going to give up and stop resisting. Saying no doesn't matter. What a woman says doesn't matter, because she's so 'inconsiderate' of a man's feelings. How dare she say no!

Kyo is a creepy sex fiend. That's all there is to it. During his childhood he made sure he was the head of the house so he could marry her. To physically stay close to her he moved next door to her as her neighbor. He even becomes a teacher at her school.

I know sometimes the manga intends to bring humor when Misao slaps Kyo during his advances but honesty . . . it's not funny. Not even close.

If you look at the setup for this story, it shouldn't be a surprise that it's not good. The story is setup for a failed romance. Think about it. A romance between a girl who is this predestined bride and a demon who makes a choice between loving her for who she is or forcefully taking her to bring prosperity to his clan. It puts the heroine in a scenario where she has to accept one of her competitors or die from a rejected demon who kills her to prevent her from becoming someone else's bride.

So no matter what Misao says, it's a lose-lose situation for her. And all for the 'prosperity' of a demon clan.

And what's alarming is that you have plenty of book and manga series that are similar like this but super popular. Which is sad. I just hope women read this and don't desire a relationship like this because this is not okay.
