It started off fun but by this point I am tired of all the guys being like “she’s MiNe! RaWRr!” Also I am unfamiliar with sponsors preventing relationships just because actors work for opposing companies. Must be a cultural thing but could also be something author made up. I cannot find the last volume online and it went on hiatus almost a decade ago so I guess we won’t see more of this. It was definitely much less rapey that Hot Gimmick! and I wish this had been the completed series instead. Oh well.

This series is like crack. It's not very good or that satisfying. A tad simple and generic even. But I'm addicted and I want more.

2020 Read #159

Yura is such a stupid character. I could understand naïveté — but she really acts out in ways that just can’t be explained away by her upbringing where her parents neglected her. Agh, what a frustrating series!

The love interest in this book is *so creepy* and manipulative and EUUUGHGHGHGHGH if she doesn't dump him for the other guy before the series ends, I will be seriously upset.

I am sad to say that once I have finished this volume, I have to wait 5 WHOLE WEEKS to read the next one! This is so painful! I've already re-read each of the first 5 volumes a second time through. And I'm slightly ashamed to say that I tried to find volume 6 spoilers online. (Nope, none found.) But before I go off the deep end, let me tell you what I thought about THIS volume.

Yura and Q-ta! Together! Officially! Out in the open! While this seems like it should be a reason to celebrate, and turns out to be ok, it actually comes about in a sort-of messed up way. Once again, Q-ta is thinking of himself. He thinks of Yura only in how she relates to his life and not as an autonomous person. So when Q-ta says in a live, televised interview that he never gets to see his girlfriend because she is a busy new actress, followed by a "Hi Yura!", it never even occurs to him that it would have an effect on her life and career. I don't think that Q-ta's consciously trying to sabotage Yura, but when Haruka goes to see him to tell him off, he doesn't seem at all bothered by the idea. He'd love for her to spend all her time with him.

I mostly feel bad for Haruka during this volume, as his frustration with Yura's choices is evident. He tells her that Q-ta doesn't have her best interests at heart, but she doesn't believe him. I'm hoping that Yura really does ask Q-ta about this in the next volume, because I think he'll be honest with her, and she'll finally know the truth. I just hope she doesn't let it slide. Haruka remains super-supportive of Yura in this volume. He loves hearing of her success, and looks forward to seeing her, just being around her. They both find joy in acting, and as time goes by, it becomes more and more clear how perfect they are for each other.

Keiichi. Now he is an interesting character. He is instrumental in maintaining Yura's career, especially after the Q-ta interview. Keiichi knows Yura well, and knows the effect she can have on an audience, so he had her do the only thing that would have salvaged the situation: admit it in her shy, unassuming way, and garner sympathy from fans everywhere. And it worked! Ultimately, though, I think Keiichi is hurting Yura by competing for her with Q-ta. Telling Q-ta that Yura will always "be mine" while she is an actress is a horrible thing to say to guy who already wants her to quit. But I will say, Keiichi's concern for Yura the night she was missing (aka, out with Q-ta) was very sweet, especially so because he didn't want her to know about it.

I'm still disappointed in Yura for abandoning Nanase and his viewing party, but I love seeing their bonding session after her return. I'm happy to learn more about Nanase, and can't wait to see what develops between him and Uehara from Knights. They are very sweet. :) And I am proud of her for not ditching Nanase and everyone else when Q-ta tries to steal her away again. Also, I am glad her acting is going so well, because I do want her to succeed! And getting more jobs is necessary for success, so I hope that the new project with Nakazono doesn't get cancelled because of the relationship drama. I'm not surprised she is so appealing to viewers, and eventually, I'm sure her drama will outrate her mother's completely.

As for Yura's mother, Yukari, I'm glad to hear her whole story, but it doesn't really make me like her more. She was pretty messed up from the start, and though Yukari clearly loved her husband, Onozuka, she never loved Yura at all, and only had her so she could trap her father into commitment. I can't believe the lengths she went to in order to ensure Yura would never surpass her, and that makes me root for Yura even more. As for Onozuka, I do feel bad for him, because he did truly love Yura. But he certainly isn't blameless - if he loved Yura as much as it seems, he should have fought more for custody of her, and if that failed, at least come and visited her more, given her more encouragement and love. His abandonment of her is really inexcusable.

So here I am, sitting here, waiting for volume 6. Sigh. Maybe I'll go re-read these all again... Do I have a problem?

I feel horrible that it's taken me this long to read this. I was so excited when it came out that I rushed right out and bought it. Then, I didn't touch it for months. What kind of fan does that make me?

I love these romantic comedies. I think they're so cute and funny. I usually find my loyalty with one guy pretty quickly, but I'm having a hard time with this one. I like Haruha and Q-ta. I haven't quite figured them out yet. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Surely, something ridiculous will happen that will sway me to one or the other. I'm not terribly crazy about Yura. Based on this series and Hot Gimmick, Aihara doesn't write very strong females. They always seem sheltered and kind of stupid. Yura is definitely too shy for her own good. I appreciate her determination to become famous without the help of her mother or father though. She's an improvement from Hatsumi, so that's good.

I'd like to understand Haruha a little more. He obviously has a thing for Yura. I don't understand why he won't just tell her. Of course, that might not be an issue in the next volume. It sounded like that was exactly what he was doing at the end of this one. And what is going on with Keiichi? He's got to be about twice Yura's age and I'm thinking his thoughts are not-so-innocent. He's definitely trying to keep her all to himself. I can't wait to figure out what that's all about. Aihara must really like forbidden relationships because this feels a lot like the Shinogu/Hatsumi relationship in Hot Gimmick. It's kind of a weird position to be in. My favorite part was learning more about why Yura's mother is such an awful person. It was very interesting to see her past and figure out why she hates her daughter so much. I have to say, it didn't make me feel sorry for her or anything. She's just superficial and evil as far as I'm concerned.

This was a great volume. I'm ready for the next one!

This is probably my favorite book in this series so far. Overall the series isn't very gripping to me, I never feel I have to read the next volume right away, but I'm certain I'll read the entire series because I do want to know what happens.

Yura's gone off with Q-ta instead of going home on the night of the premiere of her drama. They've gone to a hot springs. Yura's nervous, but she's willing to give everything to Q-ta to make him like her. But Q-ta is willing to be patient to make her his. He doesn't like all these people knowing her, or how much time her career is taking up. He's also got more rivals than he knows. First his brother who knows how important Yura's career is to her and is proud of her accomplishments. Second is her manager, he's becoming very possessive of her, he doesn't even seem to know how or why it's happening.

We also learn a bit about her childhood and the absence of her parents in her life as well as exactly why she's so insecure. I know I for one have begun to actively hate her mother rather than just dislike her. I believe a lot of her problems could be solved if she just sat down with her manager and discussed her parents since he appears to have been present in a couple of these flashbacks.

I've been a Haruka shipper since almost the beginning and I continue to be, but this book has made me certain I could never back Q-ta, although I could see her ending up with her manager...

The first chapter of this book, with its older boy with younger girl situation, almost turned me off the series until I saw that Q-ta was counting to cool off and Yura just thought they'd be kissing. That seemed realistic to me, but I have to admit that I don't believe that Q-ta would love somebody as weak and whiny as Yura. Certainly her beauty can't account for why Boss is putting up with her antics. But that's the plot. Meh.

The chapter featuring Yura's mother was fantastic and saved this volume for me. Aihara has created a deliciously wicked character who we actually began to care for towards the end of the chapter. I'm not rooting for her by any means, but it was nice to have some believable character development in this series for a change.

Still, I feel Yura is a spoiled brat who doesn't deserve her opportunities. I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for her and wish she'd grow up a bit quicker.

I was disappointed how far things developed with Q-ta in this volume. I am really hating how lackadaisical he is about Yura and how obsessive she is over him. If he treated her right, like Keichi or even Haruka I would understand and root for her. As it is my opinion has sunk so low!

I did like how we were presented with Yukari, Yura's mom's background. It's a pretty sad way to live. The art in this manga is stunning despite the turn in the story.

Most women are lucky to have a good, solid man in their life who treats them decently. Here Yura has 3 different men with different attitudes toward her and instead of exploring all three relationships then going with her heart she seems to be choosing the one who treats her like an object to be owned and discarding the two who treat her like a real woman! It's very odd to me.

BOTTOM LINE: Disturbing.

I think it's telling that I mostly gave this two stars because it was more of a "Q-ta" volume than a "Haruka" volume. I wish I could pick Haruka up out of this series and airlift him to a better story and a girlfriend with some sense in her head. The poor guy.

Yura is getting dumber by the volume, and Q-ta is such a complete scumbag. It's painful watching her be so wrapped up in him.

I like some of the side characters, like Nanase, and while the whole Shachou thing is slightly creepy, it's still better than her having any kind of relationship with Q-ta. Aaaack.

I don't think I'm even going to be able to read Volume 6 because no library around her has it, but I'm really ok with that because from the reviews, it would only depress me. YURA. GET SOME BRAIN CELLS. AAAAACK.

Omg just finished chapter 22, ah is Q-ta really bad news??? Haha, poor Mizorogi. I wonder how old he is? Bah, Haruka wasn't in the last few chapters. Really, I normally hate manga's that are all romance, but this one so far has caught my attention. It's not completely focussed on one aspect, so maybe it's not so bad after all. I'm so annoyed!!! Yura, forget them all and focus on your career :PP

The author redeemed herself from the last volume by including a fascinating peek inside the psyche of Yura's mother. Yura's still annoying, but if she actually learned something from the events of this volume, things should be more interesting from now on.

This soap opera is getting too melodramatic. Yura just substituted her narcissistic parents for a self serving manager, and a pretty boy who is only looking out for his own self interest. I hope she develops some back bone soon because her constant naïveté is getting tiresome.

I'm really annoyed with everything that's going on. Focus on your career, Yura!!! And Q-ta is selfish as hell and poor Haruka has a crush on stupid Yura.
