In Uniform #3

Fleet Hospital: In Uniform

Rate this book
At Camp Pendleton near San Diego, Fleet Hospital is conducting a simulated emergency under the command of Captain Michael McLowery. This means the place is filled with servicemen and women "moulaged" to resemble the wounded.

Also on-site is reporter Lori Sepanik - aka Jo Marche - of tabloid fame. She's looking for journalistic legitimacy in the form of a good story; she thinks reporting on the Fleet exercise will provide this. But the last thing she expects to find is a "dead" body that really is!

Michael's in charge of the murder investigation - and he wants Jo involved. As an outsider, she notices things others don't. She also notices the very attractive Captain McLowery....

Together, the man in uniform and the woman with a camera make an unbeatable team!

Anne Marie Duquette

34 books10 followers
The granddaughter of two coal miners, Anne Marie Duquette was raised all over the nation, including Alaska and Hawaii, with a healthy appreciation for the richness of the land, wildlife, and its beauty. Her love of the earth’s treasures grew during her many travels as the daughter of a U.S. Air force pilot and Air Force nurse, the wife of a career Navy Chief Petty Officer, and as a Navy veteran herself. Different landscapes and people sparked her interest in the arts, especially writing and photography, as a way of keeping track of her varied experiences as a “military brat.”

She obtained a degree in Mass Communications (Journalism, TV, Film) from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and set out for Hollywood. But apart from an un-produced treatment sale to Paramount Studios for Star Trek – The Next Generation, her fate seemed to lie in the books she so loved to read. In 1987 she made her first sale to Harlequin Romances, her primary publisher of 25 books, and has ventured into the self-publishing world of non-fiction as well.

She has an adult education teaching certificate in writing from the state of California, and has taught religious education for fifteen years at her church. An animal lover, a partner to a retired black German shepherd service dog, and owner of a rescued dachshund, she tries to bring together all the varied experiences of her life to her stories for her readers and family. Anne Marie is married with two children and two grandchildren, all residing in Southern California.

If this book had another name, it could have been called 'One Second and The Whole World Changes!'

Wow, this book surprised me in so many ways. I mean the first chapter takes you on an emotional rollercoaster. I thought this book would be a really nice cutesy wootsie Harlequin. With some cute couple moments and a nice HEA, but it surpassed that!! The Male Lead Michael McLowery is the CO of a US Navy Fleet Hospital, and as a character, I'm very surprised he could still function at all, especially after the first chapter! I won't give anything away but good Lord! He is very well thought out though. Tenacious, commanding, the strong but silent type, all that you would expect this fictional military man would be. Jo Marche is a wild card of a Female Lead. She's a tough reporter down on her luck who dreams of really becoming a writer. She's also tenacious, sweet, and insightful. A very interesting combination, but the author makes it work beautifully. Daniel Preston a.k.a Dennis Klemko was like Paul/Saul from the beginning he comes out of nowhere. You don't think he's that important to the plot, but he is! There's also a whole other cast of interesting characters, but they are too many to name.

This book has many life lessons. I felt like I learned and grew with the characters as they solved the murder and solved their mystery of themselves. On a side note, I have never heard of this author before, but I'm now really excited to research and maybe pick up some of her other books. Really really enjoyed the read!
