Dr. Brian O’Grady’s second novel Amanda's Story was released in November, 2012 after his best-selling debut with Hybrid.

Dr. O’Grady, a neurosurgeon, explores the untapped abilities that lie within the human brain with his series, starting with Hybrid. The key in Dr. O’Grady’s debut novel is a virus, which unleashes a chain of events in the same spine-tingling spirit of suspense as The Andromeda Strain and the X-Files.

O’Grady follows in the tradition of Michael Crichton as a physician who brings his in-depth medical knowledge to his craft. A practicing neurosurgeon, O’Grady is a graduate of the University of New Mexico who completed his residency in neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic. His deep insight into the mysterious workings of the human brain brings HYBRID and Amanda's Story realistically to life.

When he is not writing or performing brain surgery, he struggles with Ironman triath- lons. He lives with his wife in Washington state.

Review
The Unyielding Future
By Brian O’Grady

Brain O’Grady has written an easy going supernatural thriller that rises above the tropes of paranormal fiction. It’s a thriller with nuance and sophistication. The Unyielding Future is written in a conversational style so easy to read, but profoundly full of thought provoking scenarios.

The reader follows a prominent Austin, Texas neurosurgeon through a series of unlikely events. As an unseen force manipulates crime after horrific crime, our doctor inadvertently always seems involved. It’s a race against time as a psychopath has kidnapped several children and has threatened the doctor’s youngest daughter, Mia.

Our doctor meets Adis, after he prevents a mass shooting at a high school by taking out the terrorists invading it. Our doctor is supposed to treat Adis, who physically appears like a 70-year old man, for lacerations etc. he incurred during this standoff. A mystery in itself is how someone of that age could take out a terrorist group commando style and only have a few lacerations.

Adis tells fantastical tales and allegories to make our doctor (and reader) figure out the link between the tale and the dilemma at hand. The unseen force happens to be Adis’ counterpart, nicknamed Sida. Before this situation Adis’ job was to intervene much like a guardian angel as commanded by his elders. However, Adis makes a mistake and consequences of his actions make a domino effect that puts many lives in danger.

Author Brian O’Grady has written a crime thriller but not like any crime thriller you’ve seen. It is an action film director’s dream complete with action heroes/villains, multi-car crashes, multiple fight scenes and fiery explosions. The Unyielding Future is a breath of fresh air in its uniqueness and highlights the darkness of the human soul. This is one story you don’t want to miss!

I received this ebook from netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, I didn't like this book. I was very intrigued by the small blurb that tells you about this book, but when I read it I felt I got something totally different. I felt the same way reading this book as I did when I watched the TV show Lost. At the end of every chapter I had more and more unanswered questions. In addition to the confusing nature of this book that the author tried to explain, I was just lost. A lot of the explanations went totally over my head. Now I know the author is a Doctor, so I am not under the impression that I am anywhere near as smart as him, however I suppose I just wanted him to bring some of the explanations down a little.

My feeling is that perhaps if the book had been more condensed I may have been more interested, or more willing to look up things that I was unclear about. My thought is that a lot of the book was unnecessary, such as certain stories that are told or things that just don't meld well with the rest of the story.

Although I did not enjoy this book I did read the entire thing, one thing I usually cannot do is stop reading something because I want to give the author the benefit of the doubt that things are going to come together at the end. This book may be a great read for someone else who has a brain that is more in tune with what the author was trying to get across, but it simply wasn't for me.

Fantastic!!! Just like a roller coaster, this story starts out slowly but you hit the pinnacle and the plot zooms to the end, leaving you breathless!!! In Austin, Texas, there is a school shooting that is impossibly averted by a mysterious elderly man. Because of some minor injuries, he is taken to the local hospital where he meets a prominent doctor who is the narrator of the tale. From this point forward, the doctor and his family’s life are not the same. They are thrown into impossible situations that are controlled by mysterious forces. He struggles to protect his family from energies that can’t be explained.

I can’t praise this book enough. The first chapter or two, while Mr. O’Grady is laying the necessary groundwork for the story, are a little sluggish but after that, it is a powerhouse. His writing is engaging with just enough humor to insure you don’t get bogged down with the complexity of the storyline or the questions it raises. The characters of the doctor and his family are well developed and engaging. The plot is action packed, thought provoking and intricate enough to give you pause for thought.

I am so glad I started reading this book on a Friday because I could not put it down!!! I highly recommend this story to anyone, young adult and up who has ever questioned the forces of good and evil and also predestination. This will give you lots to ponder, even after the last page is turned.

This novel was strangely addictive. The plot of the story is like nothing i have ever read before. It is the yin and yang of our world ... where one family have to make decisions which will have a life altering effect on someone else.
Would definitely read more by this author.
