🧶✨ Murder, magic, and a crochet club full of secrets? Yes, please.
I devoured this cozy little novella in one sitting and immediately reached for the next book in the Bewitcher’s Beach series. Short but twisty, it kept me hooked from the very first spell—every page packed with charm, chaos, and one hell of a murder mystery.
When whispers of a murdered werewolf hit the Lake Tahoe Women’s Crochet Club, Lulu isn't about to let it lie. With her spellbook in one hand and her yarn in the other, she dives into the mystery unraveling in her own neighborhood. But the deeper she digs, the more tangled things get—and she’ll need to catch the killer before the supernatural underworld tears her town apart.
Lulu is witty, lovable, and totally chaotic in the best way. I can't wait to see what kind of magical trouble she and her family stir up next. 🖤

Wow! I am amazed how much is cleverly packed into this quick read. We learn a lot about about several characters and there are so many twists and turns, but it never feels overwhelming. The mystery is well-crafted, with several clues and suspects to consider. I was shocked when the whodunit was revealed, but it all made sense in the end. There are not only witches, but also vampires and werewolves in this cozy town. It is a definite page-turner that can be read in a short period of time.
The atmosphere was enticing. I am not one who crotchets, but I found myself engrossed in the descriptions of the process as Lulu put her thoughts together and tried to untangle this mystery. It takes place around Christmas time and I was fully immersed in the setting with all the descriptions that were woven into the story. What a welcome escape during these hot summer days I'm currently experiencing in real life!
If you are a fan of paranormal cozy mysteries, I highly recommend checking out Be Careful What You Witch For, by Emily Fluke. It's especially perfect for Christmas time in December, Christmas in July, or anytime you want to get those Christmas feels while solving a cozy mystery. It's a great beginning to the Bewitcher's Beach Paranormal Cozy Mysteries. After reading this prequel, I can't wait to read the first book in the series!
Prequel to the Bewitcher's Beach Paranormal Cozy Mysteries Series comes Be Careful What You Witch For by Emily Fluke.
Set in the 1950s, It follows a crochet loving Witch named Lulu trying to keep her supernatural self & family under the radar in normal society in a small town. Lake Tahoe. All to avoid the possibility of getting tracked down by hunters. What seems like a normal gossiping circle of crochet ladies turns into a murder investigation and the realization that the town might not be a safe place to hide after all.
It gave the same kind of feeling that was in the first book Magic, Movies, and Murder. Cozy with snippets of paranormal, community, and a death.
Aw this is such a cute little mythical creature mystery solving. It's really short but it's actually kind of cute because it shows you 43 years in the past before the first book comes out. So it kind of hints to where the family goes. But it's kind of cute to watch it and read and try to figure out the mystery of who killed the werewolf in the book. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series.
Quick and cozy murder mystery read! I love some of the descriptions in the book--especially how the main character relates her magic to her crocheting and the nice little mix of magical and mundane. Even in a short story, there were a couple twists I was not expecting, but everything made sense by the end.
I received this prequel as a freebie in return for an honest review. This was a great story, not too long and with enough twists and turns to keep me reading and not getting bored with the detail. Had expected it to be about witches, wasn't expecting other supernatural characters to be hidden in plain sight. Looking forward to reading future stories in this series.
A quick read that is the perfect example of a cozy mystery read. It’s a great introduction to the new series coming from Emily Fluke. I look forward to getting into the Bewitcher’s Beach series coming out next year.
I think cozy paranormal mystery just might be my jam. I LOVED this book. It was true perfect mix of cozy and paranormal. I’m so glad I took a chance on this! This is the perfect fall book if you’re looking for a short and cozy story!
This prequel is an exciting mystery with paranormal creatures and magic, set long before the first book of the series. The twists and clues keep you guessing until the end, all while setting the scene for the first installment. After reading this, the next book can’t come soon enough!! 💜
After reading this novella, I can’t wait for the first book to come out! This story has all the pieces that I love! Cozy mystery, sweet characters and the paranormal! Another great book from Emily Fluke!
What an exciting prologue to lead up to a new series. Emily is such a dynamic storyteller, and her characters are so unique. As a mom, reading stories of other moms doing incredible things is so much fun! This short story is no different.
Lulu is a witch who has a crocheting club. When the local werewolf is killed, she feels the need to investigate. She is afraid that a hunter is on the prowl and that her family is in danger since she is a witch.
This one was a super quick read and I absolutely loved it. We’re introduced to Lulu, a mystery loving witch who loves to solve things and protect her family from hunters. When the town mechanic turns up missing, and later dead, Lulu works her skills to find the killer.
This was the perfect intro to her new cozy mystery series! I love fantasies and mysteries, and this combines both. And all the crochet references made me giddy! I'm so excited for this series!
Such a cozy mystery! If you like all things witchy, & are missing the cozy fall/holiday season, then pick this up. It’s short as are most novellas and it’s also well written. 🙌
This was an interesting and wonderful short story. I loved reading more from this universe, and it was such a neat story! The characters were fantastic, and I love how cozy it felt.
A very good story I enjoyed very much. A clever prequel to the series introducing the beginning of the town by the sea. The characters are very interesting and made the story fun to read.
