Jasper Jenkins is a boy who is brave and not afraid of anything! Or is he?This humorous tale, written in rhyme, takes you through the mind of a young child who believes that he is courageous despite all the silly, strange, and even downright outrageous things he fears. It helps to teach children that people can be afraid of anything and that it is okay. This story brings to life the reality of fears and makes the reader laugh along the way
Krystal Fernandes is a director of an early childhood center by day and a children's book author by night. Her passion for both working with children and writing began as a child. She is blessed enough to have the ability to live both of her dreams daily. She is from New Bedford, Massachusetts, and resides with her husband and two children who support her in all her endeavors.
Her first tale, Jasper the Bold(ish), is inspired by her own childhood fears, which could seem a little odd to others.
Her second story, The Meany Monster, focuses on a lesson of self-love and self-acceptance. It is geared to teach children to embrace themselves for who they are.
Krystal is currently working on her third book, so keep an eye out for it!
Being an avid reader to my kids at home, but also in my classroom as a second grade teacher, I have to say I enjoyed this book. I originally picked it up for my classroom because the cover caught my eye. I know- you should never judge a book by its cover!
The kids in my class loved it and they laughed throughout the book. I even laughed at a few things- especially Cousin Carl. We all know a cousin Carl! The kids liked it so much that I brought it home to my little ones. My five-year-old giggled his way to the end. My pre-teen tried to pretend he had no interest, but I saw him chuckle and eye roll over a few things which means he was listening! I wouldn't normally leave such an extensive review, but the author took the time out of her day to answer a couple questions about the book prior to purchase. I wanted to know about the age ranges and she responded to me very quickly and honestly I was surprised to even have heard back. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to see what else this author has to offer. There's a fan over in WI!
I have three kids and read this book to them at bed time. My oldest is nine and my youngest is four. They all loved it. My oldest even sat and read it alone later on to really look at the pictures (without the little ones in the way). The cover really drew me in and the story line definitely met my expectations. It was cute and chuckle worthy the whole way through.
Just read this book and let me be quite honest. I laughed. I’m nearly 33. Am I ashamed? Nope. Very quirky, colorful and charming book. My kids will love it! Can’t wait to read what this author publishes next!
I read this book with my children and they really liked it. I like rhyming books which is why I chose this one. Some rhyming books I have read were really not very good, but this one was written well. I will definitely be watching for more titles by this author.
I read this book to my daughter and she loved it. She laughed out loud about a few things and I'll admit that I did too. Good story with a silly context. 5 stars in my book.
Adorable book! This book made me laugh and I am 61. I got it for my grandkids for when they stay over on the weekend. I don't know who enjoyed it more- me or them!
