Patricia Summerlin Martin's objective was to relate in this book the most familiar Bible stories, maintaining some continuity between each one in order to present the grand picture of God's plan for His people in this world. The outcome was one hundred two stories - from Adam, through Abraham, Moses, the kings, and the prophets to Jesus Christ and His followers. The facts have been taken directly from the Biblical narrative, with no attempt to introduce a particular denominational creed or doctrine. To attract the child's interest, she has improvised and invented conversations between characters; but in cases where they are recorded, even these are from the Scriptures themselves. The book is designed for the elementary school child, for the older child to read for himself and for the parent or teacher to read to the younger ones. The questions at the end of each story will give you a review of the facts.
My Mother bought this book when I was a young boy. She read from it often to me and my brother. Today I have her copy. I have read it often to my children and now hope to read it with my grandchildren. It is a wonderful book filled with wonderful stories from the Bible. Very well done.
Patricia Summerlin Martin's "Beautiful Bible Stories" is a classic children's book of bible stories from Genesis on through. The language is easy to read and contemporary today. Each story has review questions at the end to help the reader understand and reinforce the points and morals of each story.
I read this book for the 52 books in 52 weeks reading challenge. I used a 2018 reading challenge prompt read a childhood favorite. This was one of Ken's favorite bible story books as a child. I can see why, it has beautiful illustrations. The text is easy to read. The details are fairly accurate. I would recommend it. my children enjoy when i read aloud to them from it.
I grew up with this as my main reference. The pictures are awesome. Each chapter/story ends with discussion questions. I think my copy crawled out of Grandma's house. I took it with me when I moved out, I'm that fond of it.
I'd still rather read this than the actual Bible. Judge me if you like but it's a lot more fun sometimes to read the children's version.
