Having finally got hold of a reasonably-priced copy of this book, I can say definitively that it was well worth the effort. It's a detailed, passionate (in some cases) eyewitness account, and John Dix's is a life lived in rock'n'roll; although not to the extent that he can't remember what happened!
My area of interest is largely contained within the Flying Nun roster, which makes up only one chapter of the book. Mine is the first edition which ends in 1988, though, so this situation may be different in the updated 2nd edition. Nonetheless I found it a fascinating read.
What I read of this large book, probably half or 2/3 (I skipped some of the early chapters) was fantastic. More interesting than most novels, full of richness about the world (kiwi music) that I found myself in, and so thoroughly done. It was amazing.
I didn't finish this great book only because I moved out of the house that had the copy. Will finish, one day.
