Good reads
Overall, this to book anthology was good and I mainly enjoyed the reads. In both stories, the main female characters had difficult pasts that they had to overcome while the main male character tried to get beyond their walls. I liked the characters and the relationship building. Stories were written well enough, with just a few issues.
You Sang To Me
Why is a 10 year-old car having trouble starting? Granted it is a Ford, but really? Was she not getting regular maintenance on it?
She had to drop out of college a few credit short of graduating due to downsizing in her job, why she not apply for financial aid?
Jamal not convinced a song that Regina and Kenny looked at and immediately recognized, a song she could already play and sing, wasn’t something that Kenny wrote when they were teenagers doesn’t make sense to me.
The ocean along the Pacific Coast Highway in California is in no way “crystal-blue.” Shook my head when I read that. Details matter when writing about a real place.

Do research, lost/stolen credit cards can and will be mailed to a P. O. Box or can have it delivered to your bank for in person pick up, an option that should have been told by the bank representative.
He is staying with someone else, his family is entirely rude to just show up unannounced at someone else’s home. You don’t surprise show up when it’s not that person’s home. And Tristan is in nothing but his underwear and opens the door with his mother and sister standing on the other side? He is a grown man, and did not stop to think to put pants on when his mother and sister are there?
Rayne thanks the thought that she should have rejected Tristan the “minute he began to play.” Rayne could not have rejected Tristan the moment he began to play, since he did not play, he sang.
Back in chapter 4 it was made known that a previous lover of hers purchased an engagement ring, but near the end of the book is it noted by her she could not remember one of them ending in a marriage proposal? She ended the first such relationship after the engagement ring was bought. It was why one of her rules of not dating younger men was made.
Why would he up and announce that he is moving back to Albany, and he said nothing to her? It didn’t make sense. , Why would he announce to her entire club Petrone of his feelings for her and that he asked her to marry him? He knows how she is, why would he do that? So you can have the catalyst for them separating? Convenience writing is not good writing.

I enjoyed these two short stories. Both deal with talented people, one who has given up on becoming famous and the other who decides its time to see if he has as much talent as he believes he has. Both characters are very talented people but can they survive the competitive, cut throat world of music? A lot depends on who has your back and both Regina Carson and Tristan Daniels must decide who they can trust and what they have to let go of.

Great Read
Both stories represent the best in romance. Characters with flaws and baggage are able to overcome the obstacles and let love rule.
Jenkins is a favorite author; Overton is a first read author, but enjoyed both immensely.

This was tough to rate. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed Bev’s half of the book. The other half, not so much. To that end, Bev has such a knack for grabbing you storytelling. Even if the writing isn’t some great literary work, it’s always a good time!

Ms Bev's novellas are never as good as her full length stories, but I enjoyed the Detroit setting and the music biz setting.

Ok read. 2 separate stories with music being the common thread. Neither story can be considered "must reads".
In You Sang To Me, Reggie is a hotel worker afraid to try her hand singing professionally after being burned years earlier. Music producer Jamal Reynolds hears her sing and offers her a deal she turns down. He pursues her personally and professionally.
In Beats Of My Heart Tristan Daniels was a teacher by trade but a musician by soul. He goes to NY to pursue his music and meets Rayne. I predicted who she turned out to be. I had to speed read thru this story just to finish bc it just didn't hold my attention.
