Sally and Jake were in love until Sally's purported friend told each of them wicked lies and married Jake herself. Sally is back in town, the friend now is dead and Jake and Sally are finally realizing the truth.
Good Points:
Plot has a little more meat to it than many Harlequins
Sally and Jake are better developed than in many romances
The minor characters, Jake's ex-in laws, Sally's family, add depth to the story
Catherine Spencer tells the story by showing us and we readers feel we are right there with Sally.

Not-so Good
Jake is a bit of a bully, especially in the beginning when he forces Sally to go with him to a real dive where he then leaves her alone long enough for a drunk creep to assault her
Sally's wanna-be boy friend, Francis, gets a raw deal

This novel was downright sad. The villain was a malicious cunt. If she didn't die in the novel and was alive in 'real life', I'd kill her. The hero was an idiot to believe a girl he knew to be a liar and not so good of a friend. The only victim in this was the heroine.

Here is a sad story of two lovers who were torn apart by a visous woman. Who years later are brought together again cause of her death. Now Jake is home to find out the secret behind his wife's death and the only person to know the whole truth is his ex, Sally. Will she be able to keep the secrets or the hurt of past love with him? This story was not an easy read cause of all the lies told by the wife. Not a typical HP story line either. I've enjoyed Catherine Spencer's work in the past but not so much this one.

A good read even if some of parts were sad. Sad that two people in love let lies tear them apart...why don't they confront each other? Why listen to someone you know you can't trust? Still a pretty good emotional read.

WTF the SOB of the H believe the lie of the bitch whore OW and married her? If she didn't die he would stick for her. Like always the heroines get the crumbs from the OW and crumbs of affections from the cheater.
