Like Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy, she emerged from provincial England; most of her works are set there. Her works are known for their realism, psychological insight, sense of place and detailed depiction of the countryside.

I had to read the simplified ESL version before attempting to read the 800 pages novel since I'm new to Victorian prose. I'll be honest, I'm not looking forward to reading it since I don't like reading novels in general, but it's a requirement 😅
